When you know your life is at stake, what decision do you make? I guess it all depends on what the situation is. But you have to chose between life and death. Of course you would chose life. What if you true love’s life is also at stake? Would you want to live together forever in whatever afterlife you believe in or live together until you die together? It is a choice you have to make. And it is never an easy choice, no matter your situation.
It all started as a really good day. Me and my best friend, Taylor, were hanging out at my house, just walking around the property. We were talking about bugs. Well, he was. He does it just to annoy me. I was playfully hitting her and telling him to knock it off, like usual. Then our life’s changed.
We are the best of friends, and I knews she liked me a little. And I may like her as well, I just was not sure. I knew almost everything about him, and she knew mostly everything about me. People always say we make a cute couple, and people always say we should date. I hate peer pressure. We were once pressured to date. It was the worst time in my school year. I had broke it up because I just wanted to stay friends. Now we are the best of friends.
How our lives changed?
I live next to a big road, almost a highway. And this car stopped on the side of the road. Two guys came out of the vehicle, dressed in all black, not as dressy as tuxedos, but fairly close. I was very protective of Taylor, which, I know, is really sweet. He stepped in front of me with his arm stretched out, guarding me.
“Who are you?” I demanded. “What do you want?”
The guys just kept walking towards us. It was two against two. We were evenly matched in number, but maybe not strength. I grabbed onto Walter’s stomach. His other hand found mine and held it tight.
“Who are you?” Walter demanded again.
There was this loud sound, kind of like the sound of a helicopter. They always flew about the highway and my house, checking things out. But this one didn’t seem to keep going. The sound didn’t start to fade and drift off, but stayed loud and direct. I looked above my head. There it was, just hovering there. A latter fell down from it. I swore, a little loudly. The two men dressed in black had stopped, and were looking at it as well, but they looked as if they expected it to be there. That was not reassuring.
Walter squeezed my hand. I could tell he was nervous, but he kept his ground. I heard feet hit the ground behind me. Someone had climbed down the latter. I looked behind me. Another two men in black had come down from the helicopter. I stepped closer to Walter. My breathing was hard and fast, Walter’s breathing was little less intense than my was. I heard more footsteps. More people were coming down. We were becoming more and more outnumbered.
“Umm, Walter. We have more company.” I said. Walter turned around and saw the men coming closer to us and swore loudly.
“ I am going to ask this one last time. Who are you?” Walter said to all of them.
We were completely surrounded by men dressed in black clothing.
I heard the sound of rusled clothing. I heard the sound of mechanical clinking. And then my world went completely black, and I felt my body fall.

I woke up with a start. I was leaning on Walter’s shoulder, which I didn’t mind, but my hands we tied behind my back. We were sitting in a very dark place, and it smelled moldy. I tried to move, even though my hands were tied, and I couldn’t seem to move what so ever. I could just move my shoulders and head. Walter was still passed out, and so I moved my head to hit his shoulders to try and wake him up. It took me a couple of minutes to wake him up. His head shot right up and almost hit me. His eyes were bugging out right away, and he was struggling to get out of the holds.
“Walter. Don’t struggle. It could lead to very bad things. We don’t where we are or how we got here or who brought us here.” I said, trying to be the voice of reason. He stopped trying to get out of his holds and sighed.
“You’re right.” He said.
“I know I am” I said back to him. He just glared at me, and I smiled. Even in this situation he could make me smile.
“ Oh stop this love crap you two.” Someone with a deep and anonymous voice said. “ You have some questions to answer.”
------------------------------------------
We were sitting in chairs that were made of metal, but our hands were still tied behind out backs. At least we could move a little more than we could before. After we had heard that guy say we had to answer some questions, blindfolds were put over our eyes. We were dragged to these chairs. The blind folds had then come off, and we were in a small room with one light. There was a desk, a pen and paper, and one more chair. We were going to be integrated. And I had no idea why we were.
I haven't ever done anything wrong. I haven’t even been in the principal's before. I guess I may be a little goodie two shoes. But I have very good reasons for not doing anything bad. Anything you do wrong goes on your permanent record. And I want to have a clean one.
Walter hasn’t done anything wrong either. Yeah, he’s had injuries but that’s it. Nothing that’s he’d done to get into trouble.
Walter was breathing hard and fast now, and so was I. If we breathed any harder or faster, we’d pass out from hyperventilation. And I think we had both passed out enough already.
“Walter?” I whispered his name because I didn’t know what could happen.
“ Bay?” He said my name back in a whisper. I turned to face him, as he did the same. I looked him in the eyes, and smiled. He smiled back. He was my best friend, and even though we were in this terrifying situation, he could make me smile and me him.
Someone cleared their throat. Loud and clear.
“Well, well, well.” Someone with a deep voice said. It sounded like the same person who said we had questions to answer. “ Look what we have here.”
A man stepped into the light that shone from the desk. He took the other chair and sat down. He was dressed in black like all those other guys, but he was dressed nicer. His hair was jet black and had a buzz cut. His skin was pale. And he wore sunglasses, even though we were in a dark room with just a desk lamp lighting it. His lips were set in a straight line. He leaned forward and set his forearms on the desk.
My body tensed. And I felt Walter’s body do the same.
“Who-Who are you?” Walter managed.
The man tisked. “I’ll be the one who asks the questions, boy.” His voice was deep and direct.
“But-” Walter protested. He was silenced with the look he got from the man.
“Good.” The man said. “First of all, who do you think you are? You two caused this upon yourselves, just so you know. Why did you summon us? Why did you think you could get away with it?”
I was blown back with those questions. This was confusing. We didn’t do anything. How could we have caused this on ourselves? We were just normal 14 year olds. We didn’t have any special powers or anything exciting.I looked over at Walter. His face looked as confused as I felt. I faced the man once again and said,”What are you talking about?”
It was the man’s turn to be confused.
“We were just minding our own business, walking around my house when you came and kidnapped us. Who are you and what do you want?” I demanded. This guy was pissing me off. I wanted to know what the hell was going on. Walter looked at me in surprise. He knew I could get angry, but he never had seen this much of me getting mad. When no one told me what was going on, I got pissed. It was like they had an inside joke and would’t tell anyone. I got confused a lot and it pissed me off when no one told me anything. Everyone seems to think it’s funny watching a girl get confused. They don’t think it’s so funny when they get mad and pissed off when you don’t tell them anything.
“ I am Ned Sanders. And I am here to ask you some questions about why you think you can get away with what you did.” The man said, whose name apparently was named Ned.
“What did we do that made a bunch of guys in black come after us and kidnap us?Hmm, Ned. We have no idea what you're talking about. We haven't done anything. We have nothing on our records that is that bad. We haven't done anything wrong.” Walter said. I could tell that he was pissed too, although the surprise of what I said still hadn’t rubbed off yet.
“ You summoned us, Walter. You both did. You both have such a strong scent. No one could miss that.” Ned said.
“ What?! We smell, and that’s what called you to us?” Walter said in shock and disbelief. I sniffed the air. I didn’t even smell anything.
“Yes. You have the strongest scent, Bay. But both together? Oh, yes very strong.” Ned said, smiling.
“I don’t smell anything. I smell normal.” I said to the crazy man named Ned.
Ned smiled. He then flipped the table. Walter’s and my hands were tied behind our backs, but thankfully they weren’t tied behind the chair. I yelled “Duck!” and Walter and I hit the floor. The table flew over our heads and knocked over the chairs we had previously been sitting in. I twisted so that I could try and sit up even though my hands were tied. Walter did the same. Ned advanced on me. He leaped like a leapard. He got about one or two feet away from me when a foot hit him square in the chest and sent him flying into a wall. His body slumped down to the floor and his head sank. He was still breathing, which wasn’t nessacarly a good sign. But he was unconscious.
I looked over at Walter. He was breathing hard.
“Thanks Walter.” I said. He saved my life. “Now, let’s stand up. Put your back against mine and we’ll push against each other to stand.”
We crawled over to each other on our knees and put our backs together and push. It took about two tries and then we stood. I then looked around for something to cut the rope that was holding my hands back. I spotted the desk, which was on it’s side. The sharp edges just might cut the rope.
“Walter,” I said. “ Would this table cut the rope?”
He looked at it and smiled. I took that as a yes. I walked over to the table and turned around and tried to cut the rope. I heard the rope starting to fall apart. Walter was doing the same thing. It took about two minutes for both of ours to fall off and to have our hands free. And we had just got free when Ned regained conciousness.
