The Letter

Twilight Sparkle sits in her library as evening descends upon Ponyville, the streets are empty which is unusual for the hour but with a looming storm everypony is inside seeking shelter. She sits at her desk on the ground floor of the large tree that is the town library and her home and is intently focused on the envelope in front her. It had arrived earlier that day along the rest of her regular mail however it differed from the rest that she received as it bore her address and name but nothing else, nothing that would indicate its sender. She considers opening the letter and looks around for Spike not wanting for him to see what the letter may contain and finally she saw that he was in the kitchens preparing dinner. With this she finally decides to open the envelope and have a look at the letter within, and as she looks it over she realizes from who it has come from and decides to read it properly later that night once Spike was asleep.

“Twilight?”, called the dragon from within the kitchens, “Dinner’s ready.”

“Thanks, Spike”, Twilight answered and with this she stood up and walked into the kitchens to join her assistant for dinner. After dinner, both the dragon and the unicorn are seated in the main area of the library enjoying some time to relax. Twilight was reading her way through a book when Spike asked, “What was in that letter you received?”

Twilight thought about what she should say to Spike, should she lie or tell him the truth, ‘He never really knew what went on in those two years before we left Canterlot. I had thought of telling him at some point but it never seemed to be a good idea. I guess it is best he does not know.'  In the end she decided that telling some of the truth was best and she answered, “Nothing important, just somepony from Canterlot asking to speak with me.”

“Who is the pony who wants to talk to you and what are they asking about?”

“An associate from Canterlot, another student from school. I never spoke much with this pony but they are asking if I would like to go to Canterlot and potentially see some of their work. However whoever sent it did not really specify what kind of work that they wanted to show me. So I’m not certain if I should go and see them but it might be interesting to.” ‘As much I hate lying to him it is better he doesn’t know,  hopefully, he doesn’t ask any further questions on this matter since he can usually read me so well.’

“Ok Twilight”, said Spike who now rose to stretch before speaking again, “I’m going to go to bed now, goodnight Twilight. Try not to stay up too late.”

“I’ll try not to. Goodnight, Spike”

With this he went upstairs to their shared bedroom and closed the door. Instead of retrieving the letter Twilight instead returned to her book and continued to read for some time before deciding to head upstairs to check on the dragon. She quietly climbs the stairs and opens the door slightly and sees the baby dragon was indeed asleep, she then turns and goes back into the main area of the library. Picking up the letter with her magic, she opens the door that led into the basement and goes down. Once in the basement she goes to wall beneath the stairs that she had just walked down upon and begins to focus her magic. She focuses her magic and casts her spell and for a brief time the room was awash in a magenta light, the wall before her flashes a brief image of her cutie mark in magenta before a doorway appears. She uses her magic to open the door and goes inside, once inside she closes the door behind her. In front of her was a small rectangular room, the wall directly in front of her was bare while the wall to her left had a large board where some her notes were neatly pinned to and to her right was a chalkboard covered in equations and diagrams. In the lower half of the room were shelves and filling cabinets and in the center of the room was a modest desk and chair. Seating herself at the desk, she placed the letter on her desk and then she once again looks at the letter and began to read it over.

Dear Moonlight,

I know that while we parted on good terms when we last spoke over two years, I had made a promise that I would never contact you again. You had told me you were not interested in any further involvement and wished to return to the life you knew and I respected that wish. However some things have come up and I would like to speak with you again and not just me but all of us here, so please could you honour me with a single favour and at the very least come and meet with me in Canterlot? If you are willing to hear me out then come to Canterlot this weekend, I will be at the usual time and place this Saturday. I can only hope that you would come and Moonlight I am very sorry for bring you into this again.

From,

Storm Seeker

Twilight finishes reading the letter and sighs, wondering if she should return to Canterlot and figure out what is going on. ‘Hearing from him again, it really brings up what had happened before. Brings up all the memories of those two years, those were some interesting times but I'm not sure if I want to be involved in this again but he sounds like he really needs help. Maybe I should go to Canterlot just to see what he wants. He is right though we parted on good terms even when I said I wanted for us to never contact each other again however it still would be nice to see them again. Maybe I could use the this trip to visit the Canterlot Library again, there should be some books that I could use for my studies. I best let Spike know soon if I decide that I'm heading to Canterlot this weekend.’ Placing the letter on her desk, she got up and opened the door and went out into the basement. She closes the door behind her and after the door had closed the doorway vanishes away looking like nothing more than another part of the wall, she walks up the stairs and into the bedroom where she got herself ready for bed and went to sleep.
