*Knock Knock Knock*

Black. That was all she could see, was black.

*Knock Knock Knock*

Pain. All that consumed her senses, was pain. There was a faint smell of alcohol and tobacco coming from the adjacent room. It must have been a lot, she thought to herself seeing as how the floor under her muzzle was caked in dried blood. Funny how quickly we get used to the scent of our own blood.

*Knock Knock Knock*

Where was that knocking coming from? The yellow pegasus filly opened her eyes a little wider, the fluorescent lighting shining off the white tiled floor hurt her eyes, her vision was blurry. Squinting, she moved a hoof up to her face to shield her eyes and screamed when the pain shot up her foreleg. More muffled knocking and a voice.

*Knock Knock Knock*

“Sir! this is hotel security! Would you please open the door!”

The little foal looked at her bleeding foreleg. It was covered in shards of broken glass, much like the rest of her left side. Her vision was slowly starting to return, and so was the pain. She slowly propped herself up using her right legs and drug herself over to the bathtub, using the ledge to slowly pull herself up.

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

“SIR! you have 10 seconds to open this door or we are coming in!”

The bleeding pegasus looked around the bathroom, the mirror was shattered, from what she could see of herself she had a swollen face, a black eye and one of her wings was obviously dislocated.

The door of the hotel room slammed open. “Oh dear merciful Celestia!” she heard a pony shout from the main room. “Find my daughter! Please!”.

“Someone check the bathroom!”

The filly managed to say 1 last word before collapsing to the floor again, unconscious. “…here.”

The door to the bathroom burst open.

*Beep…. Beep… Beep*

She was waking up. Her senses were coming back to her again. This time she felt less pain. She felt a pillow behind her head, a blanket over her body. This was a hospital. A hospital?! her eyes shot open. There was a white earth pony next to her with a shocking red mane. The pony looked at her and smiled. “Good morning.”

“Where am I?” The foal questioned.

“Luna’s hospital for homeless foals.”

That was the answer she didnt want to hear. “But im not homeless! I have a family! where are they?” She tried to move to sit up higher, but the white pony put a hoof on her. “Please dont move dear. I just got done dressing those wounds and it would only cause you more pain than you have already been through.” The doctor picked up a clipboard and read it. “It says here, you were brought in by Foal Protection Services. You were found in a hotel room with multiple contusions, cuts and a broken rib.” She flipped the page. “As well as a mild concussion. I must say, you are a strong little foal, making it through all of that.”

The little filly was confused. “But what hap-” it all came back to her like a forgotten nightmare. The shouting, the screams, her mother crying, her dad drinking, running away, getting hit, getting thrown, the crash, the blood, the police. The pony’s mouth hung open. Her father had taken it too far this time, and now, she was left homeless, no doubt her mother was taken away as well.

She closed her eyes, it was only a matter of time before this happened. Tears starting dripping down her cheeks. The white pony spoke up again. “Is there anything I can do to help?”

“Leave!” The pegasus filly screamed at the nurse. Quietly, without question the nurse wrote some notes on her clipboard, adjusted the saleen bag that hung from the hook suspended over the bed and quietly trotted out of the room.

The filly buried her face in her hooves and began sobbing.

“What are you cryin about?” A voice came from the bed next to her. She looked up, it was a little blue colt, a pegasus just like her. She shot a glare at him. “Shut up! you dont know anything about what happened to me!”

“Yeah right! Try me!” The colt held up his left foreleg that was bound in a cast. “I know exactly what it’s like to be in your position.” He smiled at her. “You just have to make the best of it! Look for the silver lining! for example, I got to meet you! And now I have a new friend!”

“Who ever said we were friends?!” She cocked an eyebrow.

“Well who says we cant be! My name’s Soarin! What’s yours!”

“Spittfire….” Her demeanor softened slightly. She slowly forced a smile. This colt seemed like a nice pony, maybe perhaps she COULD be his friend after all…
