The Legacy of Spike

Chapter 2

Beep

Beep

The soft beeping of medical equipment startled Spike awake. His eyelids felt heavy and he failed to open them. When he did, he immediately regretted the decision. His pupils were blinded by a bright light. It took a few moments for his eyes to adjust to the light. When they did, he got a fairly good look around the room.

It looks like i’m in the hospital He thought to himself. He tried to remember why he was here in the first place, but he couldn’t think of anything.

His eyes scanned over his body. His chest was covered in a white cloth that wrapped around his entire body. He could also feel something clamped to his left arm. He turned his head and felt a sharp pain going through his neck. The heartbeat monitor next to his bed started to beep faster and faster. After he calmed his heart down, he moved his head to the side again, this time, slower. He stared at the cast over his arm for a while. As he  started getting extremely bored, he heard the soft ‘clop’ of hooves in the hallway outside of his room.

“Hello?” He called. His voice was hoarse from not drinking anything for a couple of days. “Is anypony there?” He called again. This time, the steps stopped right outside of his room. The door was slowly pushed open. Spike smiled when he saw who was standing there: Twilight.

When Twilight saw that Spike was awake, she gasped, ran out, and gathered the others. When they came closer to his room, he heard them chatting about something to do with Rainbow Dash. He was about to ask what they were talking about, when Pinkie Pie and the rest of his friends, gripped him in a back-bone breaking embrace.

“Ugh...Girls...Can’t...Breathe...” He gasped for breath. The five mare’s giggled at his reaction and...

Wait a minute. Five? Where’s Rainbow Dash? He wondered to himself.

“Hey, Twi? Wheres RD? Didn’t she want to come to see if I was alright?” He asked. “Or is she still stick in Cloudsdale?”

“What do you mean ‘where is she’? Don’t you remember anything?” She asked, her voice suddenly filled with worry.

“Um, no. I can’t remember anything after leaving the library when I got you angry. What happened?” He asked.

“Um, well... You see, the thing is...” Twilight began. But, Applejack cut her off.

“Rainbow Dash is the reason yer in the hospital in the first place, Spike. She put you in here.” She said. “But, the worst part is-is... she put ya in here... one week ago.” She said, tears had already begun streaking down her orange face.

“What do you mean? Are you saying that i’ve been asleep for an entire week?!” Spike asked, raising his voice.

“Now, calm down, sugarcube. Ah’m sure she didn’t mean t’ put you into a coma.” Applejack tried to reassure him. But when she mentioned the word ‘coma’. His eyes widened in surprise.

“I-I was in a coma for a week?” Spike asked. “Is that even possible?”

“No, Spike. It isn’t. You shouldn’t have made it this far. The doctor’s sent me to unplug the system that was keeping you alive. Right now, you should be dead.” Twilight stated plainly, without showing any sort of emotion.

“I should be dead?”

“Yes, Spike. When she bucked you in the mouth, she gave you a minor concussion. After that, she broke your ribs, one of which punctured your lungs. The doctor’s here patched you up as best as they could. The reason why Rainbow Dash is here is because she didn’t want to see you in any more pain, she didn’t want to see you die.” Twilight said.

Spike looked up at his ‘mother’. “Twi, can you bring Rainbow Dash here?” He asked.

She seemed taken aback by his request. But, she complied nonetheless. As soon as she left the room, the others followed suit. When he finally heard the last of the hoofsteps leave his hallway, he thought about what they had said.

Did Rainbow Dash really put me into the hospital? Should I really be dead? Why wasn’t I more careful? I could’ve avoided this. He thought to himself. His thoughts were interrupted by a cyan pegasus walking into the room, her head hung low.

She slowly lifted her head up and saw Spike. Her eyes immediately brightened. “Spike! You’re alive!” She said, jumping up to hug him.

“Wow, Rainbow Dash. I never saw you as a hugger.” He teased.

She immediately realized what she was doing and hopped off of him. “What happened here, never leaves this room. Got it?” She said sternly.

“Got it.” Spike replied.

She remembered how close Spike was to dying. And it was all her fault. She was the one who thought he was a different dragon, when in reality, he was the same dragon they knew and cared for. Her gaze met Spike’s emerald eyes. “Look, Spike. I’m sorry for what happened last week. It was my fault you’re in here.” She said somberly.

Spike moved his claw to her shoulder. Rainbow Dash lifter her head up to look at Spike. “Dash, you have no reason to apologize. I mean, sure you nearly killed me, sure you threw me into a coma for a week, and sure you put me into the hospital . But that doesn’t mean anything. Now, did that make you feel any better.” Spike asked.

She gave him an ‘are you buckin’ serious’ look. “Spike, now is not the time for joking around. Okay?” She said.

“Fine. I was just trying to cheer you up. Meh, that’s Pinkie’s thing anyways.”

“You could have just said it wasn’t my fault. That would’ve been way easier.”

“Okay, it wasn’t my fault. It  was yours.” He said smiling at her jokingly.

“Heh, I guess I walked into that one, didn’t I?”

“Eeyup.” He replied, perfectly imitating Big Mac’s voice. “Oh, Dash. I almost forgot. I needed to ask you something before you beat me to a pulp.”

“Yeah, what is it?” She asked him, her curiosity getting the best of her.

“How would you like to be my flying teacher?” He asked, poking her chest with a single claw.

She looked at him in disbelief. “Are you serious, Spike? You don’t even have wings yet. You just grew a few inches, or a few feet.” She said.

She continued to stare at him when he fully expanded his wings. “A-Are those....” She stuttered.

“Yep, got these bad boys the night before I ran into you.” He said, smiling proudly. “So? What’s the answer?” He asked.

“Y-yes. Just yes. I mean, how awesome would it be if I told somepony that I trained a dragon to fly?!”

“Okay, thanks. This really means alot to me, Dash. I’m now considering you one of my best friends.”

“Awesome!!” She shouted enthusiastically. “I-I mean, it’s totally cool, or whatever.” She said blushing.

Spike laughed. “Get out of here, Dash. Probably near time for my next meal, whenever that is.” Spike chuckled. She nodded and left the room in a hurry. Since the beginning of the afternoon, Spike was finally able to take in the entire room. He looked to his right and spotted his journal on a chair. “That’s Twilight for you.” He mumbled as he reached for it.

Entry #5

Well, I wake up one week after my ‘encounter’ with RD. It wasn’t the most pleasant  meeting. But, damn. Does she pack a good buck. I wonder why she has so much muscle. I mean, she’s a pegasus. And running isn’t exactly their strong suit. I guess it just comes from the training in Flight Camp. I think that’s what RD calls it. Anyways, i’m getting pretty tired, so i’ll keep this short.
