I got the idea for this story about 4 days ago. I was talking to my friend online and she was really upset, so I asked her what was wrong. She told me that she found out that day that her favourite teacher had died over the weekend. I was in shock and had no idea how to respond. But she told me all about her - she was pretty much everyone's favourite history teacher, she has just had a baby in September, her first and a little girl and she had been diagnosed with cancer. She was only 28.
I didn't know her. I have never known her. But I couldn't help but start crying, and just think, "If this is how I'm feeling I can't imagine how the others are."
Things like this remind us of how lucky we are to have the people around us, even if it is only for a short time. I couldn't imagine hearing about the death of my favourite teacher - I would be a mess. And I honestly don't know what I'd do without my best friend with me.
So this story is a tribute to that young teacher, who shaped so many lives and died do young, but also her husband, who must be feeling awful right now, and her daughter, who shall truly know her mother. And also for everyone in that school who I know are feeling quite bad right now at the loss of someone so close to them.
