The little black filly awoke once more to the brightness of another sunrise, did it really have to be that bright? Really? Celestia could easily make it to where there was a little cloud outside the box she had been stuck in...but noooooooo that would be all too nice of her wouldn't it?
“Stupid holier-than-thou cotton-candy maned goody two shoes.” The black filly grumbled as the little wings on her back flapped as if all life depended on it. In many ways it did, the sun was only getting brighter and boy did it put the little mare in a foul mood.
A little puff of purple magic lifted the filly from her crib which to her was code for a prison with a fluffy bottom and that guard with button eyes, peering into her very soul. The little dragon eyes narrowed looking to the ‘guard’ at the foot of her prison completed with star printed sheets.
The purple mare sighed as she looked over the overly paranoid filly.” Are you really doing this again? I mean....really....Smarty pants is harmless Nightmare....”
It had been like this for the last two weeks, one way or another a cult attempted to bring back Nightmare Moon....which failed miserably. Instead of their dark goddess of idol worship, before them in the shadows emerged a miniature version, all the evil 1/16 the size.
Yea and as you guessed it Celestia banished her again this time to a place worse than the moon or hell... The Equestrian public school system, or as its commonly known referred to as by Nightmare Moon ‘The pits of Tartarus with pop quizzes’.
The filly glared at the stuffed doll once more, swearing vengeance to the Eldrich gods that she would slay her eternal foe, The one called ‘smarty pants’.
Twilight knew every child, evil or not has an over active and often disturbed imagination,usually coming up with a princess for an imaginary friend.
With a nostalgic sigh Twilight made the peanut butter sandwiche's for the wee night tyrant, recalling the charming princess of her youth that lived just for her.
“Ahh.....Lady Smarty pants...” A noticeable groan sounded from the filly of eternal crankiness.
Gods she despised that fluffed creation of Satan and the all mother.
“Soon...” The filly smirked and put her wee hooves together in a rather menacing pose, cackling as she did so with utmost delight.
Twilight was not sure what to make of it, on one hoof Nightmare no longer wished to unleash the fury of hell and otherworldly spookiness upon her by means of her trusty marker and bowl of warm water whilst she slept. Then again being removed of her rival status by a stuffed doll was rather depressing, of all things a doll.
“ Alright its time for school, here is your lunch for today.” The mare smiled as if she was sending off her child to school rather than the pompous little bed wetter before her, but hey it never hurts to pretend right?
The filly carefully surveyed her meal, counting the grains upon the crust of the bread even as if it was some arcane formula needed to open the heavens.
“This shall suffice Twilight Sparkle,” The filly looked into the bag, her little tail flowing in the wind rather cutely as her rump shook back and forth.
“ Where art thine carrot sticks!? HE REFUSES TO EAT THIS SLOP A SECOND DAY WITHOUT THE CARROT STICKS!!”
Twilight could not help but facehoof again, here it comes...the wrath of her super special friend.
“Nightmare you and I both know he is not---,” She was suddenly cut off by the bellowing of the little mares voice. Regardless of size the Canterlot voice was well intact.
“WE ALSO DEMAND THE OBLIGATORY CUPCAKE FROM THE COTTON CANDY MAiNED ONE!!! HE REFUSES THIS OFFERING UNTIL THIS ITEM HAS BEEN RECEIVED!”
Twilight was more than fed up with this, everyday she had to cater to not just one tyrant but two, one of which was imaginary!!!
“I can’t keep feeding your ‘friends’ cupcake addiction!!! Tell him to eat healthier!!!”
The two locked eyes, standing still in a standoff pose for what could have been an eternity or twelve seconds.
The black filly turned her head as if she was listening to somepony else talk, the small filly nodded and agreed to something, what exactly that was Twilight was not sure.
“ Ahem....,” The little filly cleared her throat and re positioned her weight upon the small carpet.
“ WE WANT IT NAO!!!!!!!!!!” The resulting below was enough to cause her mane to fly back as if she was riding on Rainbow Dash’s back, sending books and papers flying for distance everywhere in Ponyville and all the way to Manehattan.
With a glare the unicorn's mane frizzed up as a purple light embraced a cupcake from the counter, stuffing it into the bag with gusto.
“Here now go to school or so help me Nightmare...one of these days POW!!, RIGHT TO THE MOON AGAIN!!!”
Nightmare nodded and gave a disdainful glare, her mouth opening as if she was about to speak that is until she saw...it.
The oppressor known as ‘Smarty Pants’ floated before her in a purple glow, shuffling closer and closer to the black filly. Like raid to a roach Nightmare backed away, avoiding the gaze of the stuffed overlord, averting her gaze.
“DON’T LOOK AT ITS EYES!!!!!” She cried out and ran as fast as she could away, finally resting beneath the statue beside the school house.
The filly gave a quick look around, surveying the area for any signs of her would be assailant.
“All is clear my lady...the fiend has returned to the facility.” Nightmare turned to see the face of her only real friend in the world, a little white alicorn foal with a mane of brilliant yellows and blacks upon his brow and the most curious yellow eyes.
He sat there saluting her this time wearing a helmet fashioned from what appeared to be a large walnut shell.
“ Well done, we are pleased by this report.”
To the fillies and foals who happened to pass by they saw only Nightmare Moon, Talking to herself again. She was talking to her ‘friend’ again.
“Did thou secure us a cupcake for the obligatory meal time during our detainment in facility two?” The foal asked, still saluting her as she walked up to him as if he was indeed her soldier.
“ It was a tough battle but we once more proved victorious against the purple menace and her comrade ,the stuffed warden of cell A.”
The school bell rung, causing the small mare to look up to the building, waddling in after the herd of eager ponies. The desk beside her remained untouched as it has always been, since the dawn of her creation she had always had this open space beside her.
As with her own power and form, her grew beside her and became young once again as she had. Beside her was but only air in the eyes of those pretending not to watch but to her, the most precious thing in the world sat beside her, eating the white crayons from her school bag because she hated the color ever so much.
“ The facilitator has begun the lesson for the day, put thine crayons away and pay attention..” She cooed to her friend who groaned and put them back in her bag, he rolled his eyes and stared ahead trying not to yawn.
“Boooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiing.” The colt chimed in as Cherilee began to talk about animals of the Everfree forest.
To this the Night filly had to agree, if anything this was not learning just a sugar coated version of the world and you books Twilight forced her to read, except it was fewer words and even more pictures which she never thought possible until now.
“ I'm bored....hmmm...I want to play.”
Cherilee stopped in her tracks as did the rest of the class, chattering in unison.
“Y..Your friend....hes not bored.....is he?” The sweat fell down from her face as he chest began to heave.
Nightmare nodded. “He says he knows of the animals already and wants to do something fun now.” To this the school teacher swallowed hard, as the class begun slowly putting on protective gear as to not alert her ‘friend’.
The white foal groaned and kicked at his desk annoyed before rolling his eyes and kicking it hard. The table then flung at the board causing Cherilee to jump. ‘Oh no, not again.’ The mare shuddered as Nightmare stood up.
“He wishes to play a game instead of learn about droll things that you ponies do for careers.”
She looked to her right to her not so imaginary friend, he was eating her crayons annoyed this time. It wouldn't take much more, at this rate they were in for a full tantrum.
“Moooooooonaaaaaaaa,” He groaned again, this time with an odd echo to his voice that always meant trouble.
“ I wanna PLAY!”
The ground rumbled and cracked open in the classroom, the walls cracking and bulging out as if they were breathing.
The air around them nipped at their ears, the puffs of smoke coming from their tiny faces as the temperature dropped.
“You should have let us play.....hes not too happy when hes cooped up all day..”
The lights flickered in the room, revealing a massive shadow where the colt stood in Nightmares vision. The smirking ponygeist earning screams from the children as it began to laugh before them. It ascend to the highest point in the room, the massive fanged jaws opening above Cherilee ready to strike.

At long last the bell sounded and the room reassembled itself the colt giddy as he ran outside.
“FREEDOM!!!!”
Nightmare soon followed after him, the two of them leaving the class of horrified ponies behind them once again.
“You should learn to control thine self. If the overlord were to learn of this...the warden will be sure to slip something into thine food tonight.”
The colt turned to her and smiled, the fanged jaw evident on his face in a depraved grimace.
“ Sorry Moona....” He chuckled as they headed back to the facility of which they called Twilight's house.
“ Don’t forget tomorrow is show and tell Nightmare...”
The purple mare smiled to the black filly who was poking at her broccoli once again. Nightmare turned to her right where the white colt was making faces at Smarty pants.
“ The warden is up to something....I know it..” He said with a glare to the doll, the Night filly giggled at his actions with delight.”I’m just dying to show them all my best friend ever.”
He looked back, his eyes not but two black holes with a crooked fanged smile.
‘Shhhhhhhhhhhh...you will ruin the surprise.’
