Rainbow Dash awoke in a daze. Her left wing was throbbing in pain. From what she could tell, she'd been out for a while. The sun was high in the blue mountain sky.
She heard a moan.
Rainbow quickly arose only to find he whole body ache in agony. She yelled in pain. She quickly regretted her foolish outburst. Three undead colts hissed from a distance at their new lunch.
Dash ignored the pain and sprung up once again, attempting to run away from the zombies. She could hear them hiss louder, They were getting closer. Rainbow reached for her machete and unsheathed it with her mouth. She turned just in time to catch a zombie lunge at her. She swung her weapon, gashing the monsters neck clean off. Blood squirted out of the slain ponies headless corpse.
The other two groaned, signaling for other trotters to join in on the hunt of their rainbow colored food. The forest grew louder with the shrieks and crunching of the undead. Soon they'd be all over Dash's position.
Dashie galloped away from her pursuers. In the distance she could she a clearing, not very big, but it would have to suffice. She hoped that somepony, even Storm Manes, would hear her to help fight this increasing horde. She jumped over a log and landed on her front hooves. Her legs buckled and she fell in the dirt, cutting her bruised cheek on a rock. Her blood flowed out. The undead began to swarm for they smelt the blood. Hiding wouldn't be an option, Dash knew how the hellish beings craved blood and flesh and would stop at nothing to get their next meal. She tried to get up in pure fear that she would be in the stomach of somepony else if she didn't make a move now.
"Get up!" She screamed, no longer caring about the dead.
A trotter jumped over the log, failing, and breaking its own neck. Rainbow overcame her pain and got back up on her hooves. She bit the handle of her machete and picked it up off the ground. Another trotter successfully got over the log and tried to snap a bite out of Rainbow Dash, but instead met the blade of her machete. The ghoul dropped on the other one, that was trying to get back up and recover, trapping it under its own weight.
Dash kept going.
"Help me!" she screamed with the weapon in her mouth.
She hoped that somepony would hear her. She turned around to see the horde. At least twenty plus trotters. Most were feasting on their fallen comrades, while the rest were still chasing her. She hoofed to the clearing.
The sunlight flooded her ruby red eyes. A breeze rolled in. It wasn't cold, but rather warm and relaxing. It felt good on her soft cyan body as it rolled over seamlessly and carried her tangled rainbow mane with it. She was brought back to reality by a shriek. She looked around the treeline. Nopony.
The leafs crunched behind her. She turned and swung her blade at a trotter, slicing its head open exposing the decayed brain. Another leaped from behind a tree with two more following. Dash cleaved the first monster, killing it and the other two attacked. Rainbow slashed at the closest zombie. It stood up on his hind legs, causing Rainbow to miss the head but instead chop the forelegs. He felt no pain. The monster dropped in a pool of its own blood and thrashed, still trying to get at its lunch. The next one was a unicorn, he tried to use his horn as a weapon. Rainbow slashed at the colt but her target moved back. She missed and was thrown off balance. The unicorn then charged into Dash's side cutting her. The colt's horn penetrated her ribs, it felt like a sheering hot iron bar welded into her. Blood leaked out of her wound, making her fur turn from cyan to a violet red.
She screamed in sheer pain.
"No!" Rainbow bawled, dropping her machete.
She turned and bucked the unicorn, knocking it over on it side. She'd be damned if she let one zombie stop her. Rainbow picked up her weapon off the ground. She drove the blade into the base of the colt's head. His horn broke off and allowed the weapon to cut deep into it's brain. Bright red blood poured out of his head like a overflowing pot of water. The unicorn must of been newly infected, its blood was brighter that the others. The other zombie thrashed its way to the dead unicorn and ripped its flesh off and begun to feast, four more appeared from behind the trees and did the same. Dashie felt as if she would vomit from the atrocity.
She dashed for the middle of the clearing, seeing how the horde was preoccupied on eating their own. She nosed around in her saddle bag that was still marvelously strapped on her and pulled out a signal flare.
"Thank Celestia!" she thought as she begun to light it, hoping that her auxiliary unit would see it.
Before she could light the flare, a trotter shrieked at Dashie. Rainbow readied her blade. The undead pegasi galloped toward her with an intent to kill. Rainbow swung at the mare, gashing its head wide open. The mare was stopped dead in her tracks. She flopped over as she drained her bodily fluids. The pegasi's wings extended as her nerves jolted. She was dead.
Rainbow's head throbbed from all the slashing. She studied the tree line and saw that nopony had followed, yet, and reached for the flare again.
She heard the grass move behind her.
Out of nowhere she was ambushed by Storm Manes. They were hiding in foxholes covered by grass, waiting for the Pegasus to fall for their trap.
"You light that, and that'll be the last thing you'll ever do!" barked one of the soldiers!
Dash ignored him and tried to light it.
"Stop her!" the soldier ordered.
Rainbow Dash was tackled by an Earth pony, easily overpowering her.
"Get off me!" Rainbow screamed, trying to get the undead's attention. She did.
"Shit, trotters!" a mare soldier said as she looked at the horde emerging from the woods.
At least thirty zombies came out and staggered toward the living equines.
"There's no way we can kill them all! We have to retreat!" A soldier panicked.
"You try and run and i'll gut you myself." The commanding officer said to the frightened colt.
The ponies unsheathed their swords and began to thin the undead's numbers. Dashie was still trapped under the colt that tackled her. He began to fidget. The CO saw that he was moving.
"Don't you dare let her go! She an Element of Harmony for crying out loud!" The leader yelled.
Rainbow saw this as her chance to get free, she tried to fight her way out from under the colt but to no avail. He put more pressure on her. Rainbow screamed, she thought for sure the colt would squish her to death. She moved and panicked trying to get the colt to get up. A trotter saw rainbow and rushed to her, slipping past the battling soldiers. The colt saw the monster closing in.
"No, no, no! Help me!" He screamed.
The beast bit into his brown, unarmored flank and took a chunk of flesh. The colt screamed and yelled, only attracting more zombies to eat him. Rainbow slipped from under him and dashed away. A much bigger colt chased after her. He was at least the size of Big Mac, if not bigger, thought Rainbow. She galloped through the field and extended her wings. A sharp pain broke from her left. The pain was tremendous, she thought she was cleaved open and fell to the ground in agony. The enormous colt galloped from behind her and stopped right next to her. She looked up at the colt that was blotting out the sun, all she could see was his huge silhouette. He raised his front hoof and dropped it on her head.
Rainbow Dash's mind went black, she was out cold.
