Five years had passed by since the accident, since the fire. Everypony were there watching how the house was tearing down, burning. The firefighters were struggling against the threat, and making the ponies to step back every time they wanted to approach to see more
He and his friends were there, standing, with a face of shock, wishing this was a nightmare, but, unfortunately it wasn't. All of it was real, was happening through their eyes. The Carousel boutique was burning down.

Spike woke up covered in sweat, he was dreaming. Spike shook his head trying to send those thoughts far away in his dragon head, he was remembering all of this again. Felling the sadness going through his not so young body, he finally stood up. He had changed. Over the years, he searched for ways to keep his mind distracted from those thoughts . He was now a full reader, he also had been doing a lot of exercise, training his body for unexpected situations like…well, he didn`t wanted to remember it.
“Time to get up, Spike” said Twilight while arriving to the bedroom, “I prepared the breakfast, if you are interested” Spike knew that she wasn't the best cooker in Equestria, because some of the things she made were still moving in the plate when served. One time, he swore that, whatever was on that dish, said something.
“I’ll pass this time Twi” he said as he got off of his new big bed.
His teen body was much taller and stronger and the baby fat had disappeared completely. He was tall like Celestia, his wings hadn't appeared yet but in time they will. He directed himself to the lower floor looking for books. This was his new routine: every morning he would get up, maybe eat something, help Twilight, read, read and read and do some exercise.
Twilight could see his number one assistant and almost her little brother doing this every day. She was glad that Spike grabbed a passion for reading and being healthy but he also was quieter, more serious, he didn't make jokes anymore and he stopped eating gems. He had become in someone else.
“Hey Spike! Umm… the girls and I are going to have a picnic, and I thought if you wanted to join us”
“No, thanks” he said without taking his eyes from the book he was staring at
“Come on, Spike… you will like it: the fresh air, the sun and… we have some gems” Twilight said trying to convincing the dragon
“I said no thanks” Spike said giving a serious look to his friend
“Please Spike” Twilight said with a lot of worry in her voice “you know you can’t do this for the rest of your life, you will have to come out some time and not for exercising”. Spike remained silent.
“I need to try” he said
Twilight could see that he was still affected by that terrible day. She knew how much he loved Rarity, all the days he could have used for resting he was there, helping Rarity searching for gems. Sometimes he got back to the library exhausted but with a great smile in the face.
Inside of those four walls covered with sadness and stolen hopes was a closed coffin surrounded with several photos of her, at one side was a inexpressive Spike, the pain he felt was too much to express it with tears. He must thought that all that was happening was another nightmare, just an horrible dream, that Twiight would come at any time to wake him up, he would open his eyes and everything would be back to normal, but she never came, nothing happened.
Everything was real.
Twilight woke up from the flashback and frowned. She grabbed her things and walked out of the library, heading towards to meet her friends.
“Hi twilight” said a shy voice, while arranging everything for the picnic
“Hi Flutterhy..how are you...” said Twilight
“INCOMING” said a fast Rainbow dash, before crashing into the ready picnic making all the things flying through the air
“Did you started the party without me?” said Pinkie pie, bouncing towards twilight
“What’s goin’ on over here?” said Applejack while walking into the mess
“Nothing much” said Twilight “Just Rainbow dash…..crashing into picnics, as usual” “we should call you Rainbow Crash again”
The five mares laughed
After having eaten, the mares started to talk about how they were, talking about the past, about the future and how the time had passed so fast.
“So… you know… How is Spike? Asked Pinkie Pie
“He is fine, I guess reading and reading all he can” said Twilight hiding the worry in her voice
“He still refuses going out, doesn’t he?” Said Rainbow Dash, “Is he ever going to get over it?”
“It can be so easy, imagine if the pony of your dreams dies? You would be as same as depressed as Spike or even worst” said an angry Fluttershy. Whenever she decided to talk like this, getting all the shy of her voice, she was talking seriously
“But, five years have passed; he should look for another mare or maybe, a dragoness? Said AppleJack
“I know what we can do!” “Why don’t we throw him a party?”
The four mares looked at her with serious glances.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea” “If he doesn’t want to go out, he will definitely not be in the mood for a surprise party” Twilight said
“But, we have to do something to cheer him up!” Pinkie Pie insisted
“I… I think I have a solution, but, is to dangerous” Twilight said “Princess Celestia told me about it one time…”
In the other side of the park, inside the library, was a young dragon reading. He was in a time of concentration, separate form everypony and everything. He was getting ready. He got a backpack, in which he put some flowers, gems and candles. He used to do this once a month.
Spike grabbed his book and put it inside of a backpack.
He got out of the library, heading towards to the place where Carousel Boutique once was. In the place was now a statue commemorating Rarity’s memory. He remembered that day: Celestia herself ordered the construction of the statue, all Ponyville was there, it was a sunny day, Rainbow Dash cleared all the sky. The 5 mares spoke about the good times with Rarity, all their adventures that they shared. Spike stood in front of his beloved Rarity, he put the backpack on the floor, opened it, pulled the flowers and put them in front of the statue, then he took the candles and with a flame he light up the candles, finally he grabbed the gems and spread all over the statue.
He stood there, admiring the construction. Rarity was in her usual model-like posture, with her beautiful mane and look. Spike was remembering all, her little sister Sweetie Belle was the only survivor, the only thing she could rescued from the fire was the gem in form of heart that Spike gave to her. Spike couldn't see the little cutie mark crusader around. The accident had hurt her as much as Spike, but that little filly was stronger than him.
“I can’t believe that a filly is more mature than I am” Spike thought while he chuckled
Spike grabbed his book and opened it on the page where he left. The book had the name of “The princess and the Guardian” a story that Rarity used to tell to Spike while they searched for gems. Spike always dreamed about him and Rarity, dancing under the moon light, looking into each other eyes, just loving in silence. She would be his Princess and he would be her Guardian living happily ever after.
Spike grabbed a photo that was in the middle of two pages. The photograph showed Both Rarity and Spike smiling to each other, she was wearing her most incredible dress and the heart shaped gem as a necklace and he was incredibly uncomfortable with the tuxedo. They danced, laughed and had a good time. That was a good day for everypony.
Spike stood there, watching the photography, his eyes grew watery and he whispered something
“I miss you”

Spike was walking from right to left, everything was spinning, and he was reeling. After several drinks at the Brewery hooves, he was dancing on the tables, singing and trying to seduce some mares. Now he was there, heading to his home.
“Twilight is going to be maaaaaad” he thought while chuckling
He was now in front of the door, or the doors? Spike couldn’t figure out what was going on, he was dizzy, and very confused, in his desperation for help he started to yell.
“Here is Spikey!”
Twilight was just opening her eyes when she heard all the shouting, “Oh by Celestia! What is this dragon doing?” normally Spike didn’t make a lot of noise; he really didn’t make any noise, he was now quiet and very discrete. Twilight got up of the bed rubbing her eyes, just to get annoyed by another scream.
“Twi, open the doors! I’am heeeereeee!” Spike shouted
“Could you shut up?!” a stallion said from a window of a house “My family and me are trying to get some sleep over here!”
“Oh, I am so sorry, but I really don’t give a buck!” Spike said “Why don’t you come here and say it to my face?”
Twilight reached the door, afraid of what she could see on the other side of the door. A violent dragon? Will she be able to control him? Of course, she will! This was a piece of cake. What she was thinking? Some magic there and here would take that dragon down, but what she needed to say to him was going to wait until tomorrow.
“What do you think you are doing?!” Twilight shouted while opening the door
“Hey twilight! how you doin’?” Spike said
“Yeah! That’s it! go home you little coward!” the angry stallion said
“I will…I will deal with you…tomorrow!” Spike said almost falling to the ground “I put him in his place, didn’t I?”
“Come here Spike, you are drunk” Twilight said levitating the dragon inside the library
“Oh Twi, I drunk funny stuff, you should have been there…it….was…amazing” Spike said while he fainted
Twilight levitated her number one assistant to their bedroom, He was already knocked up. She grabbed some blankets, took the dragon inside his bed and then wrapped him. He looked so innocent every time he slept. How an, expected to be a giant and scary dragon, could look so adorable? Twilight couldn’t answer that, but what was her priority now was telling Spike the secret she kept for too long.
“Where I am?” Spike was in a dark place, he couldn’t see nothing only listening to what appeared to be a trotting “who is there?!” he asked
Silence
“I said, WHO IS THERE!?” Spike was getting angry but also scared, in anytime somepony or something could attack him
“Oh, Spikey- Wakey, you don’t have to be so mean darling” a voice said
Spike stood there frozen. He couldn’t believe what was going on, was this real? No, he saw what happened five years ago, he was there, watching but somehow everything felt so…real. He even could smell Rarity’s perfume.
“Why so quiet, darling?” Rarity said while walking in front of Spike, they were now in the carousel boutique, He was standing there confused and holding some gems, what had happened?
“Spike, it’s everything okay?” she said
“Uhh…yes, everything is...okay” He was looking in all directions, everything was fine, it was like nothing ever happened.
They were in her bedroom, Rarity leaved the dress she was working on and approached to Spike’s face just to stopping herself from a few inches before touching
“You can tell me if anything is bothering you” She said while getting her hoof around spike’s face gently rubbing his lips. Spike was getting really nervous, he saw himself in a mirror, he was blushing hard. She got closer, so close Spike dropped all the gems he had been holding
“Are you nervous?” Rarity said while chuckling
Spike was now frozen; she was too close to him. He always pictured this moment in his head, how it was going to be, how much he waited for it and now he was there frozen, nothing coming to his mind and scared. Why he didn’t say or do something? He has the opportunity he always waited for and the only thing he was doing was getting blushed
“Good move, champ” He thought
“Let me help you” Rarity said pushing him into her bed
Spike was resting in one of the places he always wanted to be, Rarity was in front of him slowly climbing in top of him. Their looks met, and then both know what each other was thinking.
“Does it feel good?” Rarity seductively said
“Ye…..yes…” Spike could barely talk, he was in heaven
“Let me do all the work Spikey-wakey, you just rest and enjoy”
Spike closed his eyes; this was beyond anything he imagined. He was lost in his thoughts and didn’t realize what has been happening to Rarity. She was becoming darker, her mane was disappearing, her body was becoming larger, and her teeth were now two fangs like a snake.
“I don’t want to rush you Rarity but could you…start?” Spike was finishing asking when he realized about the giant dark snake he was seeing ready to attack him
“How about now spike?” the snake rushed to attack him
“NOOOOOOOOOO!!!” Spike shouted while getting up.
“Spike! What’s going on? What happened?” Twilight came running to the bedroom, she was holding a pan in a defending position and levitating a book: “cooking for dummies” ready to be thrown
“umm…nothing…just a nightmare”
“Spike…your arm!” Spike locked down to his arm, it was bleeding from what it seemed to be like two holes
“What the bu….?” Spike thought shocked, was the dream real? It really happened! The snake attacked him in the moment he woke up but that was just his imagination, it was just a nightmare… or it wasn’t? Twilight grabbed some bandages from her auxiliary kit “And you thought that was a bad idea” she said while wrapping his arm.
“Spike, what happened? How…how this happened?”
“I…I don’t really know how to explain it… I was having this nightmare and I was with…” he stopped
“And?”
“Doesn't matter, thanks for the help Twi, I can get it from here” he stood up and walked to the bathroom.
Twilight knew perfectly with whom he was dreaming, Spike talked a lot while sleeping. He had some nightmares before but this was too much, and so, she decided it was time to tell him the truth
Spike stood in front of the mirror, his face was no longer the one of a baby, he had adult fractions and maybe if he convinced Twilight he could get the moustache again
“I looked good” he thought.
But this was not the time to think about that, the dream, the attack, the snake, everything felt so real but… was it? His arm proved it, the pain but it was a dream! He woke up safely in the library, in his bed. He knew that this kind of stuff didn’t happen; Nopony ever waked up with scars from a dream, not that he knew. He saw the mirror, he reached to his green emerald eyes and looked at them, suddenly they turned black and started to glow
“What… is… going…?” He was interrupted by a strong headache
The pain was indescribable, he felt something was crushing his head and taking over his mind. He fell on his knees putting his hands over his head. He looked the bathroom the walls were starting to disappear as well as the ground. He was falling in an endless hole, the pain increased as he was falling, was too much of what he could bear
“STOOOOP!” He shouted
Everything stopped. It was over? No, but the pain had disappeared. He stood up only to fall on his knees once again; the pain returned and was stronger this time. He could hear some voices whispering
“Join us Spike”, “Don’t be afraid”, “Shadows will be your new family” the voices were shouting inside his head. He could see eyes getting out of the dark with twisted smiles, he never felted so scared before. The figures were trying to reach him with what appeared to be claws.
“Leave…me….ALONE!” Spike shouted with all of his strength, he felt powerful, like nothing could hurt him anymore. He stood up firmly and roared with fierceness, now he was scaring the figures. He was changing, green flames started to cover his body. He saw in his back that something was growing, suddenly, a pair of wide and large wings appeared. The wings seemed sarp on the sides, making them great weapons, his tail had now thorns, and his eyes were glowing. He saw himself and then to the figures.
“I… said...LEAVE ME ALONE!” he yelled
He found himself again on the bathroom. Everything was back to normal except for his blurry vision, whatever had happened to him drained all his energy, in a last effort of getting help he thrown a vase, it had worked. He heard Twilight knocking the door and next seeing her coming inside the bathroom just to scream for help, before he fainted.
Spike woke up. He was not in his home. The ceiling was white and so the walls, he could notice that the bed wasn’t as comfortable as his own, and he was connected to these machines. Trying to get any information he could hear two mares talking outside the room.
“What happened to him?” the voice of the mare was unmistakable, it was Twilight
“We are not sure, we think that is psychosis or perhaps he suffers from…” the doctor stopped
“From what?!”
“From schizophrenia” the doctor put his hoof in Twilight’s back “we are sorry”
“But his arm!, I saw him!”
“You were there when that happened?”
“No, I…wasn’t”
“Some patients with these kinds of mental disorders tend to hurt themselves because they believe that their feelings or actions are controlled by an outside force. This is called delusion of control.”
Spike couldn’t believe what the doctor was saying, it was ridiculous, he woke up with his arm bleeding, and the dream felt as real as whatever happened to him with the dark figures, the pain couldn’t be part of a delusion. He tried to stand up from the bed, taking off all the cables connected to him, making the machines fall down. The sound alerted Twilight and the doctor. Before they looked inside his bedroom, Spike took them out of the way in an attempt to escape
“Security we have a runner!” the doctor alerted
Spike run and crossed the hall, he was now in front of a group of guards blocking the exit. The only way to getting out was taking down everypony. He clenched his fists and run towards the guards, a guard tried to tackle him but Spike quickly jumped above him, he grabbed a guard and with all of his strength pushed him to the others guards making them to fall. The way was now clear, he could see the light of the day, he opened the door but before he could even put a foot outside something made him stop. He was frozen. Finally, he felt dizzy and his vision got blurry once again.
“OH! Come…on” he finally fainted
“Thanks Princess Celestia” Twilight said “I couldn’t do it”
“You are welcome Twilight, now, let’s take Spike back to his room”
“Did you bring what I asked for?”
“Yes master, take it”
“Excellent, now with this I am one step closer to complete the plan”
“But…Master, why do you want the dragon?, he’s still weak”
The Dark pony looked at his slave, approached to him and suddenly, he grabbed his throat and lifted him
"For now...just be patient"
