Chapter I: No Purpose
The town was silent, silent as ever. It was empty, with no further purpose. The giant pale man with the huge blade and large metal contraption on his shoulders stood still. He could feel that he was there, but knew that his purpose was over. Now his torment could never subside, and he would never die. The giant fan behind him sucked the life out of the room he stood in. The walls of rusty metal, ceiling of broken pipes and the sounds of emptiness and loneliness took away from his being even more.
It had been nearly one thousand years since his master, Heather, passed away. He was her protector and executioner, but now he was just hell's guardian, with no meaning. He gripped the blade harder as the thought escaladed in his mind, as it set just as lifeless as he, and with just as much purpose as he. His huge muscles seemed to glow palely with scars all over in the fire, symbolizing the protectors torment and sins. His body stayed motionless, as did his blade with the robe made of skin that covered his legs swaying to the giant fans suction.
His blade was far too heavy for the fan to alter. It stayed motionless, as Red Pyramid was its master, and just as its master, it could not be used. It seemed that every being, or monster, in the town evaded him at the very sound of his blade. They knew that he could not be bested, so why bother with fighting him? He needed a purpose, and there was only one way to gain one.

Fluttershy bolted up in the dead of night, sweaty and scared. She had just awoke from another horrible dream. This dream, as a few recent ones, had the same horrific events as the other's, except this dream consisted of a strange creature surrounded by flames. It was hard to make out past the flames and the strange carnival contraptions around her. It stood tall, clearly not a pony or anything she had seen before. She knew she could relate with most animals, but this one was different. The huge triangular metal piece on its shoulders and the scared body became seeable when the flames slowly died down. She couldn't help but pity the monster, moving hesitantly toward it.
It wasn't until she noticed the giant blade it held that she began backing away. It watched her as she slowly moved away, turning toward her. Its blade made a terrible grinding sound against the steel as it turned. she couldn't see its eyes, but she felt that it was staring at her. Suddenly, flames leapt upwards from the ground behind her, driving Fluttershy toward the monstrosity. She turned to the wild blaze when she felt something grasp her. The sight of the 'thing' that had hold of Fluttershy horrified her.
It was a strange creature with the same body of the monster with the blade, except this one didn't have a weapon or triangular contraption on its head and it was smaller. Its face was horridly reconfigured to a vertical bloody pulp, its only two arms seemed to be jointed disgustingly, resembling a spiders. She tried to pull away from it, but it pulled her toward itself, opening its head in an unnerving fashion. The vertical slit in its head ripped open, showing an array of grinding teeth and a long, disturbing tongue.
She escaped its grip, bucking hard it its arm, causing it to let out a horrible screech. The monster tried to cut her with its strange bone-like blades that tore out of its arms. She couldn't help but back away as fast as she could, only to be stopped by a hard mass behind her. She slowly looked up, only to see that she had backed straight into the monster with the strange triangular thing on its head that she tried to avoid in the first place.
She went into shock, her mind bordering hysteria. The spider-like monster that had attacked her before pursued after her. She felt a strong arm wrap under her front legs and around her chest, picking her up into the triangular headed monsters grip. It pressed her hard on its chest, picking up the huge blade with its powerful right arm, ripping it from the ground and pointing it at the spider armed 'thing' that pursued her, threatening it into submission. It stopped, screeching at the monster that held her captive, in which her captor let out a horrible, tormented roar at the creature.
They locked gazes at each other for a few seconds, like territorial wolves. The spider creature then bolted at her captor, slicing a deep gash into its chest. Her defender backed away and grabbed its chest, grinding its giant blade down vertically into the steel ground to block any attacks done by the spider creature. The monster that held her was now in a kneeling position, showing that it was in pain from the spider monsters strike.
When Fluttershy looked across its chest to access the damage done to her captor, she nearly passed out. The gash that the spider 'thing' put into its chest was dangerously close to her, looking to have pierced the pectoral muscle just opposite of the one she was being held in. It seemed to be breathing heavily, as its chest rose and fell at a fast pace. The sound her captors tormented and ventilated breathing made escalated. The monster then leaped at them again. Her captor replied with a sick display of power considering the kneeling position that it was in. When the spider monster leaped at them, it opened its head again, only to be stopped by Fluttershy's protector.
Her captor had forcedly reached into the spider creatures throat, breaking most of its teeth, and grabbed its tongue. Fluttershy noticed her captors skin had been ripped up on its arm from the teeth, but mostly she noticed how close the creature it held was to her, as it flailed at her trying to edge closer and closer to her. Her captor pulled it back by ripping at its tongue, and finally tearing out its tongue in a vulgar display. The spider creature jumped away, seemingly trying to grab its head in pain, but the strange blades it possessed prevented it from doing so. In one final display of resentment, the spider monster ran behind them, out of her captors view. Fluttershy could definitely see the monster behind them though.
"Behind you!" Fluttershy could only muster a scream, trying to tell her captor that the monster was behind them, but her captor could not hear her, as she was not loud enough past the fire. The spider monster leaped at them from behind this time, planning a sneak attack.
"BEHIND YOU!" Fluttershy had never screamed so loud in her life.
She felt her captors muscles tighten as it raised from its kneeling position and spun around, using the strength of just one of its arms to bring the blade into the air, cutting through the wind with a strange sound. The spider monster tried to stop and block the giant blade with its bone-like swords, but the blade tore through its defense, slicing through the monster with ease. The screech made by the blade as it cut through the other monsters bones made her sick. The 'thing' that tried to hurt her earlier was now in pieces at one swing of his giant blade. She stared at its body parts, with her mind in almost pure dementia.
The monster that held her captive slowly let her down onto the ground. Its giant blade hit the ground beside her, pulling her back into reality. It kneeled down in front of her, pointing its pyramid-shaped metal heading down as well so it could get a good look at her. Why did it save her, better yet, why did it not kill her as well? Her mind was racing. She stared at the beast that saved her. She couldn't see its face, but knew it had one. It slowly began to reach out toward her, only for her to wake up from the nightmare shortly after.

Twilight rummaged through the giant piles of books that laid around the library that day. She had to be searching for something, considering that she was a complete mess. "Where is it, where is it?" Her distressed cries came to a halt when she uncovered an ancient book called Ancient Human Mythology. "Ah, here we are!" Her magic then lit the dark room. She began flipping pages until she came upon the S section of the book. "Si, Si, Ah, Silent Hill!" She quickly began reading through the passage.
Fluttershy quickly burst through the door. "Twilight, I, oh, um...I'm sorry, I should have knocked." She gritted her teeth in anguish. "Oh Fluttershy, you know I don't care about those things. Now calm down and tell me what's wrong?"
"I've been having these horrible nightmares; where these scary monsters try to hurt me." She Grimaced
Twilights face lit up, "You have been having these dreams to! About that horrible town and the carnival rides?" Fluttershy was lost in thought before she realized what Twilight said, "Yes..." Twilight felt relieved at Fluttershys words.
"Yes! Oh thank Celestia! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one having these horrible dreams!"
"But aren't you scared?" Fluttershy inquired.
"Of course I am! Why do you think I've been studying the subject?"
"What subject?" Twilight looked at her friend, noticing her curiosity raising.
Twilight then lead her eyes to the book she had uncovered. Fluttershy walked up beside her and sat down, listening as Twilight pointed to a passage in the book, "When your dreams start, do you pay attention to the sign?" Fluttershy could only stare at the picture of the old sign in the book, "Um...no, I haven't really paid attention to it before." Twilight put her hoof below the picture, pointing at the words that the sign projected, "It reads, Welcome To Silent Hill..." Fluttershys face lit up, as if an invisible bulb ticked, "Thats the town we've been dreaming of isn't it?" Twilight nodded her head in agreement, "Yes Fluttershy, it is."
Only one question loomed in Fluttershys mind, the one question that anypony would wonder at this point, "But why?" Twilight looked back into her book, "That's what I'm trying to figure out." Twilight pointed her hoof at a pile of books sitting beside Fluttershy, "Start looking for anything on ancient Human folklore!" Twilight commanded. Fluttershys expression then went serious as she nodded in agreement. The two pony's spent the rest of the night in search of anything valuable to their search.
Morning broke as they continued their search. The library was a mess with books and papers scattered everywhere. Twilight and Fluttershy still kept up their search for information on the town, and why they were dreaming about it. As Fluttershy kept her pace through the passages of a book she had found that told of Human Folklore. She quickly read through the categories in search of Silent Hill. Eventually, The large passage entitled Town of lost souls caught her gaze. It read;
"Silent Hill, Maine: In the pre-16th century, native Americans considered the sight of the town sacred, and named it "The Land of the Silent Spirits" claiming that it held a mysterious power. The native Americans were soon driven away by early settlers in the 16th century. Mysterious epidemics and plagues consumed the town they had built and drove them to abandon the town. In the 17th century a group of 34 pioneers arrived in the town, making it their home. The leader of the group died of influenza later on, making the towns people build an overlook in his memory. Plagues again consumed the town in the 18th century, causing the colony to build the Brookhaven hospital, and later on a prison. It was at this time that the town gained its infamous name, "Silent Hill".
Soon, the Wiltse Coal Mine opens and the first member of the Shepherd family is born, Daniel Shepherd, in which their family founded the Shepherds glen shortly after. In 1853 Daniel Shepherd, Ann Holloway, Theodore Fitch, and Helen Bartlett are sacrificed to their God, beginning the string of sacrifices to appease this mysterious God."
"Oh my, Twilight, I think you might want to take a look at this."
Twilight looked up from the stack of papers she was going through and quickly walked over to Fluttershy. "What is it?"
"These people...Humans, they did horrible things."
Twilight began to scan through the passage until she reached where Fluttershy had stopped. The two then began to finish the passage;
"These events led to mysterious disappearances around the town. By the beginning of the 19th century, a religious group known as the Order was formed in the town, slowly gaining influence and power over a few years. Soon, sightings of mysterious symbols carved on the cave walls of the Superstition Caverns and strange creatures caused the Gillespie Coal & Iron company to suspend mining operations in the seam. This lead to a wild speculation about witchcraft and the accult. Many People died over the century, causing everyone to leave the town, which had recently became a tourist attraction."
Twilight and Fluttershy sat motionless after reading the article. Twilight finally broke the silence, "Witches? Why would witchcraft be involved?"
"Twilight, I'm scared."
Twilight looked up to see her friend in tears, "Oh Fluttershy, it will be ok, we'll just have to get to the bottom of this." She quickly comforted her friend in a hug. She pulled Fluttershy's head in front of her own, locking their gaze, "We will find this out, ok. Everything will be fine, I promise." Twilight had a confident grin on her face as usual. Fluttershy couldn't help but let out a sweet smile past her tears; reassured by her trusted friends words.
"For now I think we need some sleep, don't you think Fluttershy?"
"Yeh...Some sleep would be good right about now..." Fluttershy stretched and yawned. "Let's sleep together tonight...you know, in case we have bad dreams."
***
Fluttershy awoke at the road again, looking up to see the sign they had talked about at the library. She took a more cautious approach this time, because she knew she was dreaming. Instead of heading on, she laid down by the sign. "It's ok Fluttershy...you gotta' be tough!" She reassured herself. A large leaf that had fallen from a tree landed on her flank. "Eeek!" She bolted up and turned around. "Oh...It's just a leaf." She slightly laughed at herself and then sighed, "I wish Twilight were here."
She stared at her surroundings. She noticed a large body of water past the guardrail and trees beside her. She tried to move her wings, but strangely she couldn't move them. Slowly, Fluttershy moved toward the mass, ducking under the rails and slowly making her way down the hill. She slipped a few times on some wet leaves while making her way down, but that didn't stop her. She finally made it to flat ground. She could see the lake, and to her surprise, a small boat. "Thank Celestia!" She began trotting quickly to the boat, only to stop dead in her tracks.
It was Twilight, standing on the boat. Twilight looked in Fluttershy's direction, noticing that she was there. "Come on Fluttershy, let's get out of here!" Fluttershy felt relieved at the sight of her friend. She glanced around her and ran as fast as she could toward her friend. She had reached about half of the distance between them before the boat was flipped in the air, throwing Twilight onto the land. "Twilight!" Fluttershy went into shock, as she couldn't move. Twilight was stuck under the edge of the boat, her horn chipped. "Help me Fluttershy!" Twilight pleaded to her friend, but Fluttershy couldn't move or talk, as she was in shock.
A large mass began to move out of the water. It was a monster with the body type of the one in her last dream, except this one was wearing a gas mask, with a large green raincoat, its hood covering most of its head. What scared Fluttershy most was his giant hammer, and what he intended to do with it. The monster headed toward Twilight. "What is it Fluttershy! What're you staring at!" Twilight could hear something large closing in behind her. "Please, please help me!" Twilight started to sob pitifully. Fluttershy was knocked back into reality, noticing Twilights cries, she began running as fast as her hooves could take her toward her friend.
She had reached the boat, and desperately tried to budge the boat off her friends legs. She used all the strength her small body could summon, but to no avail as the monster reached the boat, towering over them with its hammer at ready. "Please don't do this!" Fluttershy pleaded toward the monster. The monster only lifted his hammer slowly, agonizingly, to spark fear in their already petrified hearts. Fluttershy helplessly threw her body over Twilights, pulling her into a tight hug. They both began to sob to each other.
They could only emit whispers to each other, "Twilight, I'm so sorry."
"It's ok Fluttershy, just stay close-" Twilight began to choke on her words "It won't last long."
Their hug became tighter as the sound of the hammer whipping threw the air jolted their hearts. But only a loud clash could be heard. Were they dead? Fluttershy and Twilight slowly opened their eyes, peeking above them, only to be clarified that they weren't dead. A familiar blade had stopped the hammer dead in its path, and a familiar tormented roar broke the silence. It was that strange creature Fluttershy had seen in her previous dream.
Their defender pulled up on its blade and forced the hammer away from the girls, causing its wielder back also. Their savior had come at such a right time. It used one of its powerful arms to throw the boat off of them into some nearby trees. It pointed at the road, signaling for the girls to run. They did as he signaled, and ran for the hill, only looking back at the creature for a second. The two monsters looked at each other and clinched their weapons like a huge battle was about to occur, and the girls didn't want to be around when it happened.
Twilight looked between their strange savior and Fluttershy, "What was that thing?"
"I don't know Twilight..." Fluttershy was panting to hard from running. She wasn't used to running, considering she had flown most of her life.
Twilight glanced over at her friend, "All we need to know is that the one with the metal thing on its head with the large blade is the good one!" They could hear the fight through the woods as they ran. They were far enough away from the battle at this moment to where they could only hear loud thuds and scraping metal.
Ahead of them was a bright light. "We're almost there Fluttershy! Head toward the light!" They bolted toward the light, jumping threw it without hesitation.
***
They both woke at the same time, staring across the room at each other. They were in shock, panting heavily. They quickly moved to each other, embracing in a tight hug. They were back at the library. Judging by the suns position, it had to be in the evening. They both held each other tightly. Twilight backed off and brought Fluttershy's gaze to her own, "Are you ok?"
"We were both in that dream, weren't we Twilight?" Twilight's face lit up towards Fluttershy's.
"Oh, I'm just glad you're ok Fluttershy." The two tried to smile at each other past their tears. Twilight looked into Fluttershy's eyes, "You listen to me, we will find out why this is happening, and we will fix this. Ok?" Twilight tried to be as gentle with her words as she could, noticing how scared Fluttershy was
Fluttershy could only stare at her in confusion toward her reasoning. Twilight shook her head a little, "Ok?!"
Fluttershy began to sob helplessly. Twilight felt empathy for her friend, and pulled her in for another hug, "We'll figure this out Fluttershy, even if it's the last thing I do."
