Between Fairy Tales and Happy Endings
The sound of laughter and music echoed throughout ponyville, steadily growing louder as Derpy neared her destination. Soon enough the scent of a certain divine delicacy reached her, causing a small pool of drool to form at the corner of her mouth. With the thought of these delectable treats filling her mind, Derpy began flying even faster towards her destination, Sugarcube Corner. 'This day is going to be perfect,' Derpy thought dreamily.
Earlier that week...
The sound of the whistling wind and the rustling of leaves surrounded Derpy as she delivered her mail for the day. She had already delivered all her letters for the day, well, all but one. Derpy picked up the pace of her flying, eager to be done with her deliveries for the day, as she made her way to Fluttershy's Cottage. The closer she got to Fluttershy's house, the slower Derpy flew, until she was hovering in place next to Fluttershy's mailbox. For some reason that she didn't understand, whenever she came to Fluttershy's house, Derpy always began feeling uncomfortable and nervous. As Derpy hovered there, she began subconsciously looking around for Fluttershy. She stayed like that for a few minutes until she finally remembered why she came out there in the first place. Derpy snapped out of her trance, shoved the letter for Fluttershy in the mailbox, and flew away.
'Why is my heart beating so fast?' thought Derpy as she flew towards the Ponyville Post Office. As Derpy walked into the Post Office she was greeted with a kind “Hello” from the earth-pony working there today. “Hello Sugar Heart,” replied Derpy with a smile. “I'm just here to return my bag and hat for the day.” Derpy walked over and set her bag and hat on the counter in front of Sugar Heart. “See you tomorrow,” said Derpy as she turned to leave. Just as Derpy reached the door she heard Sugar Heart yell, “Wait!”
“What is it?” said Derpy as she quickly turned around in surprise.
“It seems you forgot a letter.”
“What?!” exclaimed Derpy as she rushed over and grabbed the letter Sugar was holding in her hoof. “I've never forgotten to deliver a letter, ever!” exclaimed Derpy as she quickly started scanning the letter for the address of the pony whose letter she apparently forgot to deliver. Yet, all she found on the letter was her own name written in big bold letters. “Wait, it's... for me?” stuttered Derpy.
“Looks like it is,” said Sugar as she looked over Derpy's shoulder to see the letter. “Weird, we don't usually have mailponies deliver their own mail, usually we have another pony do that. Why don't you open it and see who it's from?” Derpy simply nodded and began to open the envelope.
Derpy quickly opened the envelope, revealing the bright pink card inside. Besides the plain background that adorned the cover, the only thing on the card’s front were the words, “It's party time” written in all capital letters, in a dark pink color. After reading the cover, Derpy opened the card, and was promptly smacked in the face by a blast of confetti. Derpy let out a startled yelp, dropped the card, jumping into the air after being assaulted by the sudden barrage of confetti. After taking a moment to recover, Derpy reached down and picked up the card which lay amidst a sea of the brightly colored paper, and began to read.
“Hi there! If you haven't figured it out yet, this letter has been sent to you by yours truly, Pinkie Pie! This is an invitation for one of my best, most super fantastic parties yet! Not only will there we dancing, music, friends, food, and games. I'll be unveiling my newest, most mouth-wateringly delicious creation ever! So, if you want to try this mouth-wateringly delicious delicacy, you need to come to Sugarcube Corner at five o'clock Sunday night! See you there!”
Derpy's mouth was indeed watering as she finished reading the card and in her excitement, she forgot it wasn’t yet Sunday, and she started to fly down to Sugarcube Corner right then! Luckily, the wall next to the door helped to calm her down. As she sat there rubbing her injured head, Derpy couldn't help but smile at the thought of Pinkie's upcoming party.
Between Fairy Tales and Happy Endings
Fluttershy awoke Friday morning with a quiet yawn, just as the sun started rising above the horizon. After a moment of quiet stretching, she slowly crawled out of bed and began walking to her door, when she heard a small rustling coming from the corner of her room. She looked over, and saw Angel watching her. “Oh, I’m sorry Angel. Did I wake you?” asked Fluttershy. Angel simply closed his eyes, and rolled over, promptly falling back asleep. With a small shrug Fluttershy turned away and continued towards the living room.
As she entered the living room Fluttershy said a quick “Hello” to the few animals who were already awake. “I’ll get you your breakfast in just a minute,” said Fluttershy as she made her way to the kitchen to make her own breakfast. She made herself a small bowl of cereal, finished it in a few minutes, put her bowl in the sink, and then went to go and get the rest of her animals something to eat. After she had fed the few animals who lived in her home, she set out to feed the animals in the surrounding area.
It was early in the afternoon by the time she had finished feeding all of her animals. And now she was out tending to her garden. Fluttershy was watering her flower patch, humming a little tune, when she noticed a grey blur in the sky heading towards her house. At the sight of this, Fluttershy dropped her watering can, and dashed inside, locking the door behind her. She quickly rushed from room to room, closing every window and every curtain in her home. As she returned to the living room, she saw Angel looking at her and rolling his eyes, as if saying “Really? This again?” Fluttershy quickly put a hoof to her mouth and shushed him, as she made her way to the nearest window.
Fluttershy peeked out from under the curtains, to look at the figure outside. What she saw was a light grey mare standing next to her mailbox, looking around. As her gaze went by her home, Fluttershy hastily ducked down, a bright blush forming on her cheeks. Her blush only deepened as she continued to look out the window. For the next few minutes, the only thing Fluttershy heard was the beating of her own heart. Her gazing was finally interrupted by an energetic voice saying, “Hey Fluttershy! Whatcha’ doin’?”
Fluttershy let out a startled yelp, and spun around to find the source of the voice. What she saw was Pinkie Pie standing in the middle of her living room, with a wide smile on her face. “What were you looking at, Fluttershy?” Pinkie Pie asked happily.
“I, um, nothing...” muttered Fluttershy.
“What do you mean you were looking at nothing? There’s not nothing out there, there’s at least something out there!” said Pinkie Pie as she walked over to, and began looking out the window. “Hmm... the only thing out there is Derpy. Is that what you were looking at?”
“No...” murmured Flutterhsy. She had suddenly found the floor very interesting.
Pinkie Pie didn’t believe Fluttershy was telling the truth, and she then had her suspicions confirmed when she saw the prominent blush on Fluttershy’s face. Pinkie Pie suddenly let out an overly-exaggerated gasp. “You like her! Don’t you, Fluttershy?”
“I, um, I... I don’t know...” muttered Fluttershy, refusing to meet Pinkie’s eyes. ‘It’s not that I don’t find Derpy attractive, she is very pretty. It’s just that… we’re both mares! I shouldn’t be feeling like this, I shouldn’t be allowed to feel like this. Should I?’
“Oh, come on! You can tell me.” said Pinkie Pie, walking closer to Fluttershy. “You can tell me, I won’t tell anyone else.”
“I, um...”
“Tell me, tell me, tell me!” said Pinkie Pie, rapidly bouncing up and down.
“Um, maybe a little.” stated Fluttershy, her blush growing more than she thought possible.
Pinkie Pie suddenly embraced Fluttershy in a bone-crushing hug. “I knew it! You two are going to make the cutest couple! I should go let Twilight and the others know about the great news!”Pinkie Pie exclaimed. She released Fluttershy and made a dash for the door.
“Wait!” yelled Fluttershy. Pinkie Pie stopped directly in front of the door. “You can’t tell them; you said you wouldn’t. Plus, I don’t even know if I do like her. Or if she likes me!” stammered Fluttershy.
“Hmm...” said Pinkie Pie. “Well then, I guess we need to find out!” she suddenly whirled around to face Fluttershy.
“Find out what?” questioned Fluttershy raising an eyebrow.
“Duh! Whether she likes you or not silly!” beamed Pinkie, moving closer to Fluttershy.
“But I...” started Fluttershy.
“I know, I’ll invite her to my party this weekend, and you can find out then!” With that, Pinkie Pie turned and dashed towards the door.
“Party...Wait!” Fluttershy just barely made it to the window in time to see Pinkie quietly slip a letter into Derpy’s bag before she flew away. After that, Pinkie turned, smiled at Fluttershy, and began bouncing towards Ponyville.
Fluttershy let out a quiet sigh, and began walking towards her bedroom. As she entered her room, she saw a letter with her name on it lying on her pillow. At the sight of this, Fluttershy gave a small smile, as she walked toward the awaiting letter.
