The Portal Incident
“It is too unstable; we can’t hold it at this level for much longer!” A man wearing a lab coat, and sitting at a panel of lights, switches, and buttons shouted to his professor.
“It will hold.” The professor shouted back, sure that his calculations were correct.
“But Mr. ...” The man pleaded.
“Enough this may be my only chance, and no matter what happens I’m going to take it, whether it is stable or not.” The professor argued back, he was determined to finish his life work.
The man stared at the professor with admiration, and a slight sense of pity.
“Now give it full power, and check those coordinates.” The professor commanded.
“Yes Sir.” The man pushed a few buttons and the glowing portal grew brighter. The image that was appearing became clearer, despite the shimmering of the portal.
The professor turned to the man “If I do not, or can not make it back. Let it be known that I tried what nobody has ever done before, and let it say on my grave that I was successful in breaking the 4th wall!” And with that the man walked into the shifting, swirling portal.
The man behind the panel of lights stared at the portal for a minute longer. He sighed and started to power down the portal. The professor was on his own now, that is if the portal actually worked, and if it did that he survived the journey as well as any other circumstances that went unforeseen. But these were thoughts for another time because ABS Agents were sure to be here any minute. The man quickly packed up the research, and gathered his things. He began to walk towards the exit when someone banged loudly on the door.
“ABS open up” Speak of the devil.

Waking up in a hospital bed wearing a green gown, I looked around at my surroundings. Just the colors of the room could have made someone nauseous, a pale green and white wall with a poorly drawn happy face hanging in a dark brown frame. That was...until my eyes fell upon a blue pegasus with a mane of many colors. She was sitting in a puke green chair looking out of a small window. I thought to myself if I can only focus on this pony I might not get sick. The blue pegasus met my gaze, and let a look of surprise and relief come over her once thoughtful expression. I almost managed a smile, but the blue pegasus stood up and quietly walked out of the room.
I could nearly feel the nausea coming back. I looked to the small window for an escape from this cell. I started to fidget with my hooves. I couldn’t take it; I had to get out of here, so I started to get out of that bed and onto my hooves. That's when the door opens, and the rainbow pegasus walks back in followed by a pink unicorn in nurse’s garb.
“Well look at that, you’re awake”
I groaned as I tried to get up.
“Whoa there you need to lie down, at least until the medicine wears off.” The pink unicorn pushed me back into bed. I turned my head to see the rainbow pegasus sitting in the same puke green chair as before. I started to smile once again, but the pink unicorn grabbed my head and stuck a thermometer in my mouth.
“What happened?” I mumbled. The pink unicorn took the thermometer out of my mouth, nodded and scribbled something down on a clipboard.
“Well we don’t know for sure dear, but you should be glad to be awake. We thought we had lost you, at one point. And we would have too if it weren’t for your friend there” She nodded towards the rainbow pegasus.
“Well all your vitals seem ok, so once the medicines wear off we will be able to send you on your way.” With that the pink unicorn walked out of the room.
I closed my eyes and rested my head on the pillow trying to remember what had happened. Everything was fuzzy, and distorted. I couldn’t remember anything: I couldn’t remember my name, what I did for a living, my friends. It was definitely unnerving.
“You’re awful quiet for someone who fell out of the sky.” The Rainbow pegasus spoke for the first time, and I could tell that it was a she. I stayed silent and studied the female pegasus. Her eyes were a reddish purple, but they were slightly bloodshot. They were still pretty though, and the colors of her mane made me feel happy.
“I mean who are you? And why were you flying through that thunderstorm? You could have died if it weren’t for me flying in and saving your flank. What happened up there? Where are you from?”
I was astounded by her curiosity, and surprised to find that I couldn’t answer any of her questions. “I...I don’t know” I murmured sadly.
“You don’t know what? Which one of the questions are you answering?” She pleaded trying to figure out who I was.
“I don’t know” I repeated.
“You don’t even know your own name?” She asked surprised that I couldn’t, or didn’t answer her.
I thought about it for a minute but nothing came to mind.
“I can’t remember”
“Hmm, you know what? When we get you out of here I’ll take you to one of my best friends. She is really talented in magic. She might be able to restore your memory.” She suggested, her eyes lighting up at the chance to help a pony in need.
I simply nodded my head.
The blue pegasus stood up and hovered over to my bedside, and she looked at me with curious eyes. This made me feel really awkward, and sorry that I wasn’t able to help satisfy her curiosity.
“So, who are you?” I asked her.
“Oh, I’m just the greatest flier in all of Equestria...” She paused giving me time to guess her name, but I just stared back at her smiling face. “Oh yeah, the memory thing. I’m Rainbow Dash. I’m the one who saved you!” She said disappointed, but proud of herself anyway.
“What happened?” I asked once again
“Well I was visiting one of my friends because I promised to help her get all of her animals inside before the scheduled storm. When there was a really loud roll of thunder followed by lightning. Me being a weather pony and all knew that something wasn’t right. That was when I saw you fall from the clouds. I shot into the air and caught you just before you hit the ground.” She finished her story doing a swoop motion with her hooves before she relaxed and hovered over to that horrid chair. “Then I flew you to the hospital.”
“Thank you, Rainbow Dash”
“No problem, it’s what I do, but you owe me ok?”
“Sure, Rainbow Dash.” I finally managed to smile, and she smiled back.
Me and Rainbow Dash sat and talked quietly for a little while longer until the nurse pony came back in followed by another pony in a coat and glasses.
“Ok sir, we are going to let you go. Just sit in this chair and we’ll get you on your way.” The doctor said quite cheerily.
I groaned as I sat up, and slid off of the bed. Finally I would be able to escape this cell of nausea inducing green. I sat in the wheelchair, and they started to roll me down a pale green hallway, that had a off white tiled floor, and more poorly drawn faces. It was pretty depressing, but I just had to look at Rainbow Dash who followed closely behind, and all the unhappiness would disappear.
When we were outside I stood and stretched my wings a little bit.
Rainbow Dash came to my side “Good now we can go to my friends and get your memory back”
“Rainbow what do you mean by ‘get his memory back’?” The doctor asked her.
“Oh it’s nothing Doc.” Rainbow Dash turned and smiled innocently at the doctor.
“Right, well have a good day sir. And please refrain from flying in anymore storms.” He said jokingly, but still somewhat serious.
“Alright Doc.” I assured him.
“Nurse.” The doctor said, and the nurse walked back inside with the wheelchair followed by the doctor.
“Alright, let’s get going!” Rainbow encouraged.
“Let’s do this Rainbow Dash!” I nearly cheered as we began to walk towards the peaceful little town in the not so distant horizon.
