Bedtime Stories

She was confused. Rainbow was just confused. Earlier today, she was writing a letter to 'insert name', and she had no idea why. And now, it would be outrageous to write a love-letter to anypony besides Fluttershy. But why would she write it to her now? Did she still need to write one, even?

One might learn to not think so hard on these things, as they give headaches like free candy.

But hey, Rainbow loves candy.

Rainbow turned onto her right side so she could look at the pony lying in bed with her. Neither of them were asleep yet. Not five minutes ago were they just walking up the stairs.

"...Fluttershy?" she almost whispered.

Fluttershy turned to look at her, staring into those wonderful magenta eyes again. Only this time, she knew it was okay if she did. "Yes, Dashie?"

Rainbow looked away for a moment, pondering on how to word what she wanted to say. After coming to a decent conclusion, she looked back into the ocean-like eyes of Fluttershy. "So..." she started, "You remember how I asked you to help me write a love-letter, right?"

Fluttershy nodded slowly. She then gasped and put a hoof over her mouth. "You... you had a crush on..." she paused to look down, "...s-somepony else...?"

Rainbow sat up slightly and shook her head repeatedly. "No, no, no," she assured. "Not at all, actually."

Fluttershy sat up as well, but raised a brow. "Then w-who was it for?"

Rainbow laid back down, looking up at the ceiling. "I honestly had--...I mean, have no clue."

"Then why were you writing it?"

"Princess Celestia asked me to. She didn't tell me who to write it to. She just... told me something about how my destiny would tell me... something... I don't remember completely." She looked at Fluttershy. "But, point being: Why would I want to write it now? How can I write it now? I've fallen so hard for you that I would never so much as even imagine a life with anypony but you. And why would I write one to you now? There's not really a point..."

Fluttershy pondered this for awhile. She also pondered four of the words that were just spoken.

"...A-a life... with me?"

Rainbow shrugged. "It'll probably come to that eventually."

Fluttershy went back to pondering the first point. Then the second again. "Do you really... m-mean that?"

Dash looked at her quizzically. "Well, why wouldn't I?"

Fluttershy looked down again. "Well, I don't know... I mean... We have really only been together for a few hours now... we've only kissed twice... And I know it's a mutual feeling now, but... are you really sure? That's kind of... sudden to say..."

Rainbow thought for a moment. 'She seems like she's... not entirely sure that... that I'll be--' she inwardly gasped.

'...faithful.'

With one hoof, she lifted up Fluttershy's chin. There were tears visible. Just barely, but they were visible.

"Of course I mean it, Fluttershy," Rainbow comforted her, caressing her cheek.

Fluttershy closed her eyes and leaned into her companion's touch. Rainbow then let her lean a little further, allowing her to lean on her chest. Fluttershy felt her own heartbeat speed up a little if any, even though she was originally oblivious as to what it was already. As it did so, she nuzzled further into Rainbow's chest. She could now hear that Rainbow's heartbeat was slowing slightly, as it was previously rather fast. Their hearts had the same beat, pace, and rhythm as each other now. This could put Fluttershy to sleep if she kept at it for a while: just snuggling into her most favorite pony's chest, listening to her heart.

Rainbow was starting to feel like the guardian angel she knew she was becoming, but was also starting to wonder if the yellow mare needed even more convincing. Slowly, she scooted herself down so Fluttershy wouldn't have to move, bringing their muzzles in front of each other. Fluttershy, knowing what was about happen, closed her eyes and waited. Not teasingly, but as if in desperate need.

Rainbow saw that she was given an opportunity to lead this time. She more than willingly complied by closing her eyes and the gap.

Taking initiative felt, at first, like being the one to take the blame later. But after a while, it felt like setting an example. A good one at that. She then put a protective hold around Fluttershy, holding her close and being careful of her wings. They were now chest to chest.

Fluttershy was feeling like a filly in the forelegs of an angel. Her angel. Her very own angel. She knew now that she could call her that. And she would, too. She then felt the need to cling. She need something to hold on to. Somepony to hold on to.

In one smooth motion - quicker than she intended - she wrapped her forelegs around Rainbow, holding her tightly, but being careful of her wings.

Rainbow was a bit surprised by Fluttershy's move. Rainbow not only felt protective, but also needed. She decided that maybe a little bit further would be alright...

She then opened her mouth and extended her tongue slowly toward Fluttershy's lips. She gently brushed it against them, hoping to be noticed...

Fluttershy took notice of what Rainbow wanted. 'I... I guess it would be fine...' she thought. She then allowed entry. She had wondered what it was like to be on the receiving end. Now she would find out.

It felt almost like the maid, actually. Not being the maid, but rather having the maid check on your room. Rainbow seemed to be feeling around as gently as possible, like she was familiarizing herself with the space. She would brush around softly and then find another spot to check on. Then she found Fluttershy's tongue. It was as if she was about to report and leave. After the 'reporting,' Rainbow slowly started to exit, before being halted by the 'room owner.' Fluttershy wanted have one last game of playful dominance before she was left alone again.

Air. They needed it. Blinking air just had to get involved. It was almost yanking on their ears to get their attention.

After they finished their play, they unlocked from each others' mouths, willingly but also unwillingly at the same time.

With their eyes still closed, they laid there, unmoving and still wrapped in each other's forelegs. They were both ready to fall asleep now.

Fluttershy was the first to open her eyes. The blue Pegasus in front of her looked to be just about out. "You know something, Dashie...?" Fluttershy whispered.

Rainbow opened her eyes and smiled at her sleepily. "What?" she asked.

Fluttershy giggled a bit before continuing, "My daddy always used to read me a story before I would go to sleep."

Rainbow nuzzled her. "Was this enough to take it's place for one night?"

Fluttershy nuzzled back. "Oh, Rainbow, it was the perfect bedtime story... It was... alot of fun, I guess..."

"I'm glad you liked it, Fluttershy." Rainbow was pretty thrilled that her 'story' was enjoyable. "I liked it, too."

"Oh, good... I think you should tell more stories in the future, or maybe... maybe you could write some of your own..."

Rainbow blushed deeply. She knew all too well that Fluttershy was talking about actual stories now. But she couldn't help but wonder about a different term for 'writing stories', as well as 'telling stories'. This reminded her of her earlier thought. "Uh, hey... about that letter..."

"Oh, Rainbow... Can't it wait until tomorrow?" Fluttershy pleaded.

The way she said it almost made Rainbow's mind go blank. However, the look in her eyes completed the task.

"Uh..." she started. "Yeah, heh. Sure, it can wait... I guess..." She then felt Fluttershy snuggle further into their embrace. To this day, she still has no idea how. "Frankly," she started again, "I'm too tired to discuss it right now anyway..."

"Me, too..." she obliviously yawned in Dash's face. "Goodnight, Rainbow..."

After recovering from the scent of... whatever Fluttershy's breath was - she couldn't really tell - she replied in a lowered voice, "Goodnight, Fluttershy."

The dreams ahead were happy to greet them...
