Rainbows
Trot, trot, trot, trot, fly.
The daily life of a Pegasus. You lift your wings, touch the ground, act normal, and take off again. Simple. Nothing special, except for the wings, but there are tons of Pegasi. Some fast, some slow. Fluttershy was definitely a slow pony, nothing much special about her. She was just an earth pony with rarely used wings.
Just that.
"Rainbow Dash!" I looked up from the tree I was daydreaming on, only to remember that not all ponies that called her name were looking down from the clouds.
"Rainbow, hey!" I looked down to see Twilight Sparkle, a great friend of mine, running towards me. Letter in mouth, she looked ready to burst.
"Rainbow, look, the Princess sent a letter!"
I looked down from my place in the tree once more, before falling out and slamming my body against the ground. The force was enough to damage the skin, but not enough to fracture a wing, good. Waving the letter in my face frantically, Twilights' usual calm look erupted into panic and fear.
"Read it." She muttered, placing it at my nose. My eyes flitted from word to word before I decided to read the whole thing and not just skim over it.
Dearest Rainbow Dash,
You've been beaten. Your time is up Dash, unless you can beat this pony in a duel, this pony will be in charge of it all. The clouds, the skies, everything that was nearly entrusted to you.
Ha, me being beaten? Doesn't matter what I was 'beaten' at, it didn't happen.  I continued to read down the page.
The winds of change are upon us now, and the pony who beat your ultimate fly record is easily going to become the Take-Charge Pegasus unless you can show her. You have till dawn to appear at the castle, where all of your needs will be serviced and everything provided.
The other flier has been contacted.

"Twilight, I'm leaving Ponyville, just for a bit." I looked up from the letter before throwing it down and stomping on it, keeping my right hoof on it, smashing it into the dirt even more.
"Take care of Scoots while I'm gone, if I don't come back, I'm alright. Just visiting old friends," I crouched down, my voice lowering with my body. "Shame and despair." I whispered before springing my limbs up, splitting through the air with enough force to move quickly, but not enough to break the sound barrier and cause a Sonic RainBoom.
A pony,  I thought to myself. A Pegasus beat ME. Rainbow Dash! Whoever it is...Well then, I'll show them that they don't call me Dash for nothing!
As I charged through the air, the wind leaving a shrill cry in my ears, my muscles screaming at me to stop and slow down, I raced through the air, reaching Canterlot in minutes, when it should have taken hours. A thought that had been there since the day I was born enveloped me in its grace, if it could be called that.
Darkness swayed, light and dark. The light was faint, not really there. In the midst of the darkness sat a cyan colored pony with a mane made of rainbows, but the laughter and happiness had been drained from her face. Her smile was fake, and she caressed it softly, as if to recover any happiness it might have once held.
Gone now, the happiness had drained itself when another pony had surpassed the young mares hopes, her dreams. Everything. Her friends loved the new pony, welcomed them, and laughed at her as if she were nothing, tossed aside in the wind, a lone piece of paper, never thought of again.
"Their better, they BEAT you." Her friends had taunted
The memory was enough to send me charging faster to the castle, bursting through the doors.
"You were a someone, now, you're a nobody." They chanted.
"No body."
"No body."
"Whose that?" They pointed to me. "Oh that's right, a no body!"
I looked around, and watched as Celestia looked up from her notes, on the opposite side of her was Luna, and next to her was...
