Of Big Daddies and Little Sisters
Prologue: Project Fatherhood
Andrew Ryan sat behind his desk and lazily lit a cigar as he watched with annoyance three Big Daddies on a monitor. "The Fatherhood Project..." Andrew Ryan spit out, each word dripping with disgust, he quickly took a swig from a bottle of vodka as if the words left a bitter taste on his lips. The Fatherhood Project was ment to create teamwork and leadership within three Big Daddies, so that they didn't attack each other on sight. At the moment two of the Big Daddies, both being Bouncers, were fighting each other with there drills. The leader, a Rosie, was trying its hardest to get there attention so that it could lead them but the Bouncers were to busy fighting each other.
"Idiot." Andrew Ryan grumbled as he watched the rosie shot its RPG at the two, it's last ditch effort to get them under control. Unfortunately this did get the Bouncers attention, but they now felt that the Rosie was a greater threat and charged at the Rosie. Andrew Ryan switched cameras to one inside of the labs, turning the camera so that he could see Dr. Gilbert Alexander who was watching another monitor nervously, cringing at the destruction of the Rosie. Dr. Alexander looked over his back and at the camera that was now trained on him, he gulped nervously, his forehead drenched in sweat and his eyes full of fear.
"Mr. Ryan I'm sorry, but I'm almost certain that the next batch of Big Daddies will work..." Dr. Alexander trailed off as he waited in fear for what Andrew Ryan would have him do. Andrew Ryan lean back in his chair in thought, wieghing his choices and there consequences.
"Fine, send out the next batch of Big Daddies." Andrew Ryan said calmly. Dr. Alexander sighed in relief and turned to the monitor to send the Big Daddies into the training grounds. "But if this next batch of Big Daddies ends up like the last one, I suggest that you volunteer yourself to under go the transformation of a Big Daddy." This made Dr. Alexander tense up at what Andrew Ryan had just said, shaking with fear and nervousness he turned back to the camera.
"Y-yes M-mr. Ryan..." Dr. Alexander quickly turned back to the monitor, then after making sure the training grounds were cleared ran over to three slumber pods and began pushing buttons on a control pad. "Please don't fail me Group six..." He whispered to one of the slumber pods that contained one of the newer modiles of Big Daddies known as a Lancer. Dr. Alexander pushed a final button on the control pad that made the floor go down like an elevator, the slumber pods sinking down with it. Dr. Alexander ran back to the monitor and began furiously typing orders and codes that would open the slumber pods.
Andrew Ryan switched the camera feed back to the training grounds and watched as the slumber pods depressurized and slowly opened. The three Big Daddies, a Bouncer, a Rumbler, and the Lancer all stumbled out of the slumber pods, quickly shaking off the effects of the slumber chamber. The Lancer began using the LGS or Leadership Growl System to communicate it's orders to the Bouncer and Rumbler, the Bouncer however would have none of it.
A hissing sound could be heard as the slumber pod depressurized and opened causing Bouncer to lose it's balance. It quickly shrugged off the effects of being in a slumber pod and took in its surroundings, noticing for the first time the other Big Daddies. Standing next to it was a Rumbler and a Lancer who were seemingly on the edge of fighting each other for dominance. Bouncer also noticed the layout of the room they were in, a large domed roof made out of glass gave a clear view of the ocean outside. Inside the room were barricades and low walls for cover and in the center was a small table with three bottles of a glowing liquid on it. Three large steel doors were the only entrance and exit to the room and on the other side the sound of impatient Splicers could be heard.
Bouncer's attention was brought back to Rumbler and Lancer when it heard a challenging growl to it's right. Lancer was now only a few feet from Bouncer and had it's ion laser trained on it, Rumbler standing behind it in defeat. Bouncer returned the growl and revved up it's drill, stomping the ground to show that it was not to be messed with. Lancer only seemed to grow angrier but in the end was not dumb, knowing full well just from the look of it that the drill would be an unpleasant thing to be stabbed with.
Lancer backed off so as to not create a conflict and released a low growl, showing it's loyalty to Bouncer. After Rumbler had repeated the low growl Bouncer made a short, high pitched growl that ment for the other Big Daddies to follow. They made there way to the small table in the center of the room, attracted to it by a strange feeling of importance. When they reached the small table the Big Daddies could see and smell that the glowing liquid was Atom.
Without warning the three steel doors flew open, allowing the splicers to rush in like a tidal wave. Reacting on instinct Bouncer quickly made a quick, low pitched growl and pointing behind a short wall to Rumbler, who quickly jumped into action. Another quick low pitch growl and Bouncer pointed for Lancer to get behind a barricade that was closer to the charging splicers. The Bouncer roared as it's vision became a blood red causing the splicers to slow down a little at the now furious Big Daddy.
Rumbler fired it's RPG at the on coming splicers and threw it's miniature turrets on the ground with a clear line of fire at the splicers. Lancer fired it's ion laser at the splicers that made it past the turrets and Rumblers RPG, cutting through them like a knife through butter. Bouncer charged the splicers with unbelievable speed and killed many of them with it's drill that easily drilled through bone and flesh. Finally when all the splicers were killed the three Big Daddies returned to the center of the room and stood next to the table waiting for there next objective.
"You three have proven that you are all capable at working together for a common cause." Andrew Ryan said over an intercom that was built into the camera that he was watching through. "Now you may choose your reward." The Big Daddies looked at each other then at the three syringes of Atom on the table. Lancer grabbed one that was filled with a red liquid and stabbed it into it's arm injecting the strange red liquid into itself. Rumbler grabbed one that was filled with a neon blue liquid that glowed softly and slid the syringe into it's arm injecting the neon blue liquid. Bouncer put down it's drill and picked up the last remaining syringe and almost dropped it as it was cold to the touch. Slowly slidding the syringe into it's arm Bouncer injected the cool clear liquid into itself and instantly felt cold.
Lancer seemed to burst into flame and began running around trying to put out the flames while Rumbler electricuted itself. Bouncer tried to move to help it's fellow Big Daddies but found that it's joints were completely stiff as if frozen to the spot. Moving it's head to look down Bouncer found that it really was frozen to the spot but using it's inhuman strength it easily broke out of the ice. Bouncer clentched it's fist and ice instantly formed around it, thinking quick the Bouncer threw it's fist at Lancer and opened it, sending out a blast of ice that put out the flames on Lancer.
Rumbler seemed to have taken control of it's powers and was able to stop shocking itself, shortly after Lancer burst out of the ice. It picked up it's ion laser and walked back over to the other Big Daddies that were testing out there new powers. Bouncer was freezing random bodies while Rumbler was electrifying puddles of water to watch the sparks. Lancer raised it's hand and unleashed it's powers, sending a jet of flame into the air which caught the attention of the other two Big Daddies.
"I am glad to see that all of you survived the experience." Andrew Ryan said over the intercom as he watched the three Big Daddies walk back to the table that the bottles of atom had been on. "Now would all of you get back into the slumber pods? You will be awoken when the time is right." The Big Daddies quickly obeyed there orders as they lumbered to the slumber pods and carefully got into them. Once all three were securely in the slumber pods the doors slid closed and the pods activated, causing the Big Daddies to fall into a deep slumber.
