Taking a break

Previous Chapter

After about 10 minutes, Rainbow Dash was already bored out of her mind.

“Twiiiilight!”

Twilight giggled “Yes Rainbow Dash?”

“What do you need help with anyway? This is soo boring!”

“Well, you can start by getting an apple from over there.” She motioned toward the kitchen.

Dash went over, picked up an apple, and began to eat it.

Twilight looked back at her “Rainbow Dash no! I need those!”

“Oh, um, alright.”

Rainbow Dash looked puzzled as she brought the bowl of apples over to her.

“So, what do you need these for?”

“Well, there’s a spell in here to turn an apple into an orange.”

“Whoa cool! That could be used for a great prank on Applejack.”

Twilight rolled her eyes before taking an apple and setting it on the desk. She concentrated on it as her magic enveloped it and it began to change color.

“Come on, come on.” Twilight said, a small amount of sweat dripping from her head.

The apple changed more, before her magic stopped and it changed completely back to an apple.

“Phew, this is difficult.” Said Twilight.

“Come on Twi, I’m sure you can get it!” Rainbow Dash said, patting her on the back.

Twilight smiled at her, before she turned her gaze to the apple again.

“Okay then. 1, 2...”

“Hey Twilight!”

“Ahh!”

Startled, Twilight jumped, throwing her aim off as a beam of energy shot out and turned a nearby book into an orange. She looked over, seeing Spike standing at the door, looking toward the new orange.

“Whoa, sorry about that Twi” Spike said as he carried in a bag filled with quills and scrolls.

“That’s alright Spike, now I need to work on how to reverse this spell” Twilight flipped through the spell book.

Rainbow dash put an arm around her “Twilight you egghead! Come on! It’s a nice day outside. Are you seriously gonna miss it just to change some apple into an orange?

Twilight looked out the window; it was a very nice day outside. She looked at Rainbow Dash, who looked as bored as ever from being stuck inside.

“I suppose a break wouldn’t hurt. Spike, can you clean up this mess and, try to find the spell to change that book back?”

“No problem Twi, have fun!”

Twilight smiled at her assistant. ‘I sure hope we do’ thought Twilight as she walked behind Rainbow dash, looking at her flank before quickly turning away, blushing slightly.

“So what do you want to do Twi?” Asked Rainbow Dash.

Twilight thought of plenty of answers to that question before her stomach grumbled. She looked at the sky, determining it to be around 2 o’clock.

“Well I feel like getting some lunch.”

“Sounds good to me, let’s go!”

Rainbow dash sped off shortly, before going back and walking beside Twilight.

“Sorry, I get kinda anxious when food is involved.”

“Yeah, just a little.” Twilight said a bit sarcastically before nudging Rainbow Dash with her hoof.

Twilight noticed how soft Rainbow Dash’s fur was. It had nearly the softness of a cloud, and she rubbed her hoof over Rainbow Dash’s side. Dash turned to her and gave her an odd look.

“Um, Twi? What’re you doing?”

“Huh?” She responded, almost as if she had been snapped out of a dream. She pulled her hoof away and blushed lightly. “Oh sorry, nothing just…” Twilight quickly tried to think of an excuse. “I just noticed how in shape you were” Twilight gave herself a mental facehoof.

Rainbow Dash took this as a grand complement and flew up a few feet.

“Well of course! The best flyer in all of Equestria has to stay in shape if she’s going to stay on her game!”

She did a few circles in the air as Twilight watched. She wasn’t so fond of how much she bragged, but there was no doubting her skill. Twilight blinked. ‘Come on! Get a hold of yourself!’ she thought and shook her head.

Rainbow Dash landed next to her and motioned in the way of the café.

“Come on, last one there is a rusty horseshoe!”

She galloped away, purposely slower than usual so twilight could keep up. Twilight however, galloped quickly past her. “Whoa, she’s got a bit of speed!” she said as she chased after her.

They arrived at the café and ordered. Twilight getting her usual Daffodil and Daisy sandwich and Rainbow Dash getting a hay shake.

“Is that all you want Dash?”

“Yeah, I’m still a bit full from earlier…” she blushed slightly.

“Oh yeah, right.”

Twilight slowly ate as she looked at Rainbow Dash, watching her look at some of the other Pegasi moving clouds away. She blushed as she looked at her magenta eyes, realizing how great they looked. As she looked down and continued to eat, she contemplated a relationship with her. ‘I really need to stop this. I mean sure she’s cute and all, but we’re complete opposites.’ She looked back up at Rainbow Dash, who in turn, looked at her. Twilight gave her a small smile, which Rainbow Dash returned before continuing to cloud watch.

Twilight finished her sandwich and looked at Rainbow Dash.

“So what do you want to do?”

Rainbow Dash thought for a minute before responding.

“You wanna go see what Applejack’s up to? Maybe you could try your apple to orange spell again.”

Twilight giggled, “You really want to see that hmm?”

“Heck yeah! I can see her jaw dropping now!”

“Well let’s go then.”

They arrived at Sweet Apple Acres and knocked on the door of the house. No response came.

“They must be out in the barn.” Twilight said.

As they got to the barn, they found a note on the door.

‘Derpy, please put any mail we receive in the box in the barn. We had do go out of town for a few days to help out the harvest in Appleoosa.’

“Well this was a bust of a trip.” Rainbow Dash said, opening the barn door to see the box.

“Huh, I’ve never really gotten the chance to look around since they put up the new one.” She said walking more into the barn.

“Rainbow, I don’t think we should be snooping around other pony’s property while they’re not here.” Twilight said, following her in, sticking close to the door.

“Come on Twi, I doubt Applejack will care. Besides, I’m not going to break anything.” She said right as she tripped over a bucket into some hay, more hay falling on top of her.

Twilight turned on a light, and walked toward Rainbow Dash. She stopped when she got close, looking at her. She was stuck in the hay, wiggling around, her flank sticking out. Twilight blushed furiously as she looked at her. She was very fit. A very firm flank it was. It wasn’t until Rainbow Dash spoke before the trance Twilight was in was broken.

“Uh, Twi, a little help here?” Rainbow Dash muttered from under the hay.

“Oh, right!”

Twilight considered using her magic, but instead grabbed Rainbow Dash’s rear hooves with hers and tugged her out. Rainbow Dash fell back out of the hay onto Twilight, her flank nearly on her face. She quickly got up and helped Twilight up.

“Phew, thanks. Hay is heavier than it looks.”

Twilight was blushing a deep red, and didn’t make eye contact with Rainbow Dash.

“No problem, anytime!” Twilight managed to sputter out.

Rainbow Dash looked at her curiously, as Twilight tried to get rid of the blush that had formed. She thought for a second before realizing how she was in the hay and the delay Twilight took to helping her.

“Twilight, were you…”

“What?” Twilight said nervously.

“Were you staring at my flank?”

Twilight looked around the barn for a distraction.

“Me? What? Noo o-of course not!” Twilight nervously spoke.

Rainbow Dash now blushed, knowing Twilight was lying, and she watched her as she continued to look for some change of subject. ‘She’s not bad for a pony’ she thought. ‘No no what am I thinking? No way could I ever go out with that egghead. My reputation would be ruined!’

Twilight spotted a chicken farther in the barn.

“Chicken! Here chicken!”

Rainbow Dash flew over to where Twilight was, trying not to laugh at the ridiculous spectacle unfolding. Twilight chasing a chicken around and around the barn, just so she wouldn’t have to face her.

Then Rainbow looked at her flank. While definitely not as fit as her, she was much more in shape then she would have had expected for a pony who just sat around reading most days. ‘If she likes the merchandise,’ she thought ‘why not give her a sample?’

Rainbow Dash landed and stopped Twilight with her hoof. She felt a warmth filling her body.

“What was that for Rainb…”

Rainbow Dash cut Twilight off with a kiss. Twilight’s eyes went wide, and she blushed a deep red. Once Rainbow Dash broke the kiss, Twilight could barely form words.

“Wha, you ju, and, I, what just happened?”

“What do you think Twi?” Rainbow Dash said. A blush was on her face as well, not nearly as strong as Twilight’s.

“I, you just kissed me!”

“Yep!” Rainbow Dash said with an accomplished tone.

“But why?”

“Twilight please! You nearly rubbed me down in the middle of town. You were staring at my flank. I think we know why.”

Twilight blushed. She didn’t realize she was so obvious. Yet a part of her was relieved that she knew.

“So what does this mean?” Twilight asked.

“Rainbow Dash took a step closer to her. “Whatever you want it to mean Twi.”

Twilight blushed and, almost on cue, leaned in and kissed Rainbow Dash. Rainbow returned the kiss with a bit more passion this time, running her hoof through Twilight’s mane. 'Or maybe it wouldn't be so bad.' Rainbow thought.

When the kiss broke, the two ponies shared the same blush, and the same smile.

“That was great.” Twilight said softly.

“Yeah it was.” Said Rainbow Dash.

Twilight looked outside. The sun was setting and she was surprised how late it was.

“I should head home, it’s getting late, and Spike is probably wondering where I am.”

“Yeah, you probably should.”

They walked out of the barn, both of them still blushing.

“So, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?” Said Rainbow Dash

“Yeah, I suppose so.” Twilight said, almost giggling at the thought of seeing her again.

“Goodnight Twilight.”

“Goodnight Rainbow Dash.”

They shared a kiss before they departed. Rainbow Dash flapped her wings, slowly lifting off the ground. Twilight held onto the kiss as long as she could. When it broke, each of them gave each other a smile before heading off toward their respective homes.
