I suppose I should begin with a little bit of background. I, Princess Celestia,  am the ruler of Equestria as well as the princess of the sun, day and light. My younger, and only, sister is Princess Luna, who rules alongside me, mostly taking the reins during the course of the night, and is also the princess of the night, moon and storms. Though it seems that after an incident my sister recovered from, she has somehow gained the ability to enter ponies' dreams. We live our lives calm cool and collected, not generally making others aware of the events in our past unless they've somehow managed to come back to haunt us. Not many ponies know what our life story is. The things most would consider common knowledge to be known of your rulers; for example, where we're from, how we came to power, or the most commonly asked question: why are we known as princesses if there is queen? The answer to that one is simple:  when we began our rule, I (being the eldest sister) was originally asked to be the queen, but I turned down that title due to the fact that I believe it implies absolute power where all my loving subjects are beneath me and less important than I. Whereas a princess's duty is both to her kingdom as well as the people that make up the kingdom. As for the other questions, well, those stories are rather long and will take me some time to make a full note of. However, I will start here by telling of the origin of my sister and I.

My sister and I were both born in the same town. A small town a ways north of the recently returned Crystal Empire. We were both, in fact, born as alicorns, which, if I might add, is extremely rare. My sister is only younger than me by a few years, increasing the unlikeliness of this happening. Alicorns, at that time, had not been seen for hundreds of thousands of years. Nowadays there exist only three: the young Princess Miamore Cadenza (or as she prefers to be called, Cadence), Princess Luna, and myself. From what I could tell at the time, the ponies in our small town were afraid of us. Thinking back on it, they had good reason to be afraid as we could use magic at a very young age, but didn't exactly have full control over it. We casted a lot of spells without meaning to, causing plenty of problems that our mother always ended up resolving. Our parents were quite nice, and were both unicorns, once again adding to the perplexity of how we came to be alicorns. Our mother was named Skyflare, and our father Duskflash. Even from a young age, I remember very clearly that my sister and I really wanted to help ponies in all ways we could. That was our dream, but what we didn't know was that it was our destiny, until events aligned in such a way, that it led us to where we are now.

The first event was the obtaining of our cutie marks. As is the same between all ponies, we did not receive our cutie marks until we performed an event we realized was our special talent. In our case though, we received them in virtually the same way: we both casted a spell. My spell raised the sun, my sister's the moon. A few months after that, our town received news from our favorite place to visit as fillies,  our neighbor city, the Crystal Empire. Normally we only received news of things like a fair coming to the Empire that our parents and us, as well as most ponies in our town, always went to. But this time was different. The news that came in this letter, read to the whole town by the mayor, was very, very bad news.  Our friends in the Crystal Empire, had been overthrown and enslaved by an evil king known as King Sombra. We all shuddered at the name. We didn't want to tell our parent's what we planned after hearing that, but we figured we had to. We told them we were going to go stop this "King Sombra" once and for all. Surprisingly, they didn't even argue. They explained that they had seen us practicing our magic, and had seen how powerful we had become, and that they knew it was our destiny. That it was what we were meant for. As it turns out, they had already packed our things, and they handed us our saddle bags, and sent us on our way.
