Chapter 1: Red's Unexpected Job
Red Sky lived in the big, bustling city of Canterlot. Of course, he could never get any sleep at night, because of the loud noises outside of his apartment. Eventually, his alarm woke him up at seven o'clock am. As usual, he turned off his alarm, went to the bathroom, took a shower. When he got out, he dried off, and started to shave. His coat was a dark purple, which was rather unusual for his family. His mane was a nice and short, with a bright red colour. His cutie mark was a pair of black binoculars.
As he finishes shaving and wipes his face, he hears a loud knocking at his door. As he walks through his apartment towards his door, he notices that it is a huge mess. So, he quickly cleaned off his coffee table and couch. The couch was against the wall with the coffee table right in front of it, with a TV on the wall opposite of the couch. Now that it was clean, he opened the door. It was his boss, Blurry Horizon, she looked so happy. Blurry Horizon was a marvelous pony, she absolutely loves to find adventures for her pony's to go on. No one really knows why, though.
“Hello? Red Sky, I need to talk to you, it's very important!” shouted Blurry Horizon.
“Will you come in, if it's that important. I don't want you to be standing in somepony's way,” said Red Sky.
“Oh, of course. I'll come in.”
Red allows her in, and gestures her towards the couch.
“Do you want anything to drink or eat?”
“Oh, no, I'm fine, I just really need to talk to you about something very big. I think you will enjoy it.”
“What is it, then? Is it one of your adventures, or is it something more important?”
“Do you know the zebra, Zecora?”
“Do you mean the one that lives in the Everfree Forest”
“Exactly, that one. Well, you do know that Zecora is not from Equestria, right?”
“Oh, yes, I did. Isn't she from a far away land?”
“Something like that. She isn't even from the continent that Equestria is on. Her land is a whole different continent.”
“Are you sure, Blurry? If you are, then why'd you come to me?”
“Isn't it obvious? I want you to go chart the continent. And bring back some small treasures to show off some of the cultures there. This will bring a lot of tourism to the land, and give some of the zebras to get an interest here. I think, once you come home from your charting, we will be able to tell everypony that there is another continent.”
“How, I am honored you chose me! I thought you'd choose my sister, Blue Sky.”
“So, she isn't fit for something like this, at least I don't think. She seems to be more of the investigation type. “
“Not all the time, ma'am. She does like adventuring, too. But I dunno if she likes making maps.”
“I couldn't say. Well, do you want her to join you? Because I can easily call her up.”
“No, not at the moment. I can always call her when I'm over there, and ask for her help. So, when am I supposed to leave?”
“I set up the time for next week. I want to allow you to have enough time to pack the things you need.”
“But, I can easily get packed in about four days, or so.”
“Oh, can't you wait for three more days, then?”
“Okay, leaving next week, on Thursday?”
“Yep, Thursday at noon. I guess I'll see you next week, then.”
As Red Sky says, “Okay, see you next week,” he shows Blurry to the door.
Red goes ahead and sits back down on the couch. He begins to think. I wonder, why? I see why she thinks so, but why me? I just don't understand....and why to Zecora's land? He sits there confused for a couple minutes. "I guess I should clean up the apartment and pack...." he said. Red sighs and gets up to clean his apartment. Before he starts, he turns on his radio and puts on David Bowie's “Ziggy Stardust.” “Now, let's do this!” he shouts as he starts cleaning.
A few hours pass. “Finally, I'm done!” His apartment was so close to being spotless. But, as everypony knows, nothing can be truly spotless. He thinks again. Wow, nice job, Red! You have truly done a great job! Now, time to pack! He goes to his room. Red takes out a small bag, enough to carry survival supplies, and a hat or two. He takes puts a puts a bowler hat and a fez into his bag. Then, he goes to his kitchen, where he finds his trusty canteen, with his cutie mark on it. He fills it up to the neck at his sink. Red starts to think about the next coming week. I think this is it...well, now to wait a week Maybe I should visit Blue Sky, or my parents. I guess, I'll relax and think about it. Give it time.
