Running from the Past
Prologue
Load Full StoryNext ChapterLloyd slowly opened his eyes as he realized his surroundings. His room, as it had been for the past 3 years. Once his mom and dad had died, he had moved into an apartment with his best friend, Phil. Lloyd checked the time, 6:00. "Damn, quite early." Lloyd muttered as he got up. He took a shower and then got dressed. He walked downstairs, and yawned. "Breakfast?" Phil asked.
"Sure." Lloyd said. After they had finished breakfast, Lloyd realized it was a Saturday. Lloyd started watching some TV, "The Big Bang Theory" to be exact. It was 9:00. "Up for a walk into town?" asked Phil. "Alright." Lloyd said.
"Guess its gonna rain today...." Phil said. Lloyd looked up, and sure enough, dark clouds were forming in the skies. It started to drizzle. "Good thing we brought our coats..." Lloyd said.
"Eeyup." After walking around town a bit, Lloyd wanted to hang around the park for awhile. Phil decided to go home. "See ya at home, buddy!" Lloyd exclaimed.
"Heh, yeah be seein' you." Phil said. As Lloyd was sitting on a bench, he saw three men robbing a young woman.
"Give us your money! One of the thieves said.
"Yeah, give it to us!" Another said.
"No, get away from me!" said the woman.
"So be it..." The tallest thief said. He pulled out a ten-inch switchblade, jet-black in color and was just about to stab her with it.
Lloyd grabbed the weapon-wielding thief just as he was prepared to strike.
"The lady wants to be left alone." The thief quickly shoved him off.
"Looks like we got ourselves a big-shot here, boss!" said one of the thieves.
"Yeah, let's get 'em!" another said. Quickly, the three hoodlums attacked. Lloyd swung a punch at the crminal nearest him and managed a good hit across the face. The thief rubbed his wound for a second, before getting angry and charging at Lloyd. Lloyd quickly sidestepped and gave him a quick punch across the back, knocking him down. Another one held Lloyd down just long enough for the other criminal that was knocked down to get up and hold Lloyd's other arm. Lloyd thrashed, as he wasn't the easiest individual to hold down. The lead thief walked up to him and raised the knife.
"Any last words, hero?" He asked. Lloyd spit at him. Enraged, the thief quickly stabbed Lloyd in the stomach several times. Lloyd struggled, but fell to the ground as soon as the criminals dropped him.
Lloyd was bleeding like a stuck pig from the belly. He realized the woman had managed to get away, but at the cost of his own life. His eyes quickly widened, his life flashing right before his eyes. His 7th birthday, him and his dad hunting in the woods at the age of 11, losing his parents when he was 13, moving in with Phil at 14, it was all there. The criminals quickly ran away, realizing that they had just killed someone.
"At least I died knowing I defended someone..." Lloyd whispered as he spit blood on the ground. He slowly closed his eyes as a voice told him,
"Sleep, rest, it's all over....." The voice sounded like a woman, one who was very caring and gentle with her words. Lloyd saw a light as he closed his eyes for the last time.
