Rainbooms and Marshmallows
Rainbow Dash slowly made her way over to the Carousel Boutique. It had been nearly a week since the incident at the Grand Galloping Gala had occurred. Everypony had moved on and gotten over the incident fairly easily, everybody it seemed, except for Rarity. Her friends had actually begun to worry about her well being over the past week. None of them had seen Rarity leave the house except to deliver the occasional dress, after which she would immediately seal herself inside of her home once again.
She hadn't been herself ever since her dreams of Prince Blueblood had been shattered, it was like she had been surrounded by a fog. Normally when things went south with a stallion, Rarity would lock herself away for a few days and then get back to her old self, swearing off the stallion and moving on just fine. This time however... this time was different than the previous times. It was as if Blueblood had somehow damaged her more than any of the others. It was as if something inside of her had just broken after she had met the real Prince and discovered what a jerk he was.
Rainbow Dash didn't like seeing Rarity like this at all, none of them did actually. Staying locked inside of her house and away from civilization and her friend for almost a whole week? This wasn't like Rarity at all, at most she would take a few days to recuperate and then be right back on her hooves again better than ever. Walking by her house, ponies could swear that they could hear her crying uncontrollably and cursing loudly, something that was very unladylike and once again against Rarity's normal behavior.
She had even sent Sweetie Belle to stay with the Apple Family for a couple of weeks with no explanation other than she thought that Sweetie Belle could use some "time to bond with her little friends." None of the ponies however wanted or were willing to disturb her privacy at first, fearful that they might upset her even worse than before. Now was the time for action though, as this kind of behavior was in no way healthy for Rarity.
Rainbow Dash had volunteered to check up on her, as the others either had work that couldn't be avoided or missed or like Fluttershy and Applejack had personal reasons for not going. Fluttershy was still to terrified that she would be disrespecting Rarity, and Applejack wasn't sure that she would be the best pony for the job considering her love hate relationship with Rarity. Rainbow Dash had none of these reservations, and wasn't willing to let her friend sit and suffer, so she had volunteered to go.
As Rainbow Dash strode up to the front door, she took a moment to survey the familiar white structure in front of her. The doorknob appeared to be lacking its usual luster, a sure sign that something was wrong. Rainbow Dash rapped on the front door with her fore-hoof. No response came back from the seemingly empty house, though a small sound caught Rainbow's attention. Her ear swiveled to get a better angle and she swore that she could hear the sounds of faint crying coming from the upstairs room.
"Rarity? Hey Rarity, it's me, Rainbow Dash! Can I come in?" Still no response came from the dark home, only the sounds of crying echoing from upstairs. "Rarity, are you okay? Rarity? Aw ponyfeathers... Rarity, I'm coming in ok? It's just me, so don't freak out or anything," she called out to signify her entrance.
Rainbow bent down and lifted the porch mat, retrieving the spare key to the house and unlocking the door. She pushed the door open as an eerie creaking echoed throughout the front room. So the door hadn't been oiled for most of the week. This only served to further Rainbow's fear that this wasn't just another "Rarity's been dumped by a stallion" slump. This was something worse. She ventured further into the house, calling up the stairs towards Rarity's bedroom.
"Hey Rarity, where are you? I just wanna talk is all! All of us are worried about you!"
A muffled response came from the room at the end of the hall. "Go away Rainbow Dash. I just want to wallow in my self pity for a while..."
"Rarity, come on! Just talk to me! Let me in!" Rainbow yelled, pounding on the door. It was quiet for a second for a moment before the door opened with a blue shimmer and a pillow came flying out, smacking Rainbow square on the snout. The door closed just as quickly as it had opened, leaving the stunned and slightly angry pegasus sitting in front of the door.
"I said go away Rainbow Dash! I don't want to talk right now!"
'Oh that's it! All I do is try to come over and help and you hit me in the face with a pillow? I'm going to help you whether you like it or not!' Rainbow Dash thought as she looked at the light wooden door. 'Alright... Just gotta line myself up and get a running start and I should be able to break down the door. One... Two...'
"Three-eeee!" Rainbow shouted as she broke through the door, sailing past the opening and crashing into the opposite wall. "Uggghh... That door was a lot flimsier than I thought it would be... Oh, hey Rarity! Why did you hit me with that pillow?"
"Because Rainbow, I wanted to be left alone, although I suppose that obviously isn't going to happen anymore now."
"Rarity, you know that it's not good to hide your feelings from your friends. Come on, we've all been worried sick about you, just talk to me. Tell me what's wrong. Maybe I can help."
Rarity looked up from her bed for a second before responding, "There's nothing that you can do to help Rainbow Dash. Blueblood was just the straw that broke the camels back, metaphorically speaking of course." Her head drooped back down to the bed as she continued to cry.
Rainbow lifted Rarity's head, staring into her bloodshot eyes. She had obviously been crying for a long time, and she hadn't bothered to wash or bathe for the past week. Rainbow decided that a gentler approach would be needed here to get through to Rarity.
"Rarity... Rarity, look at me. I just want to help you okay? Just tell me what's wrong. You know you can talk to me," Rainbow said, wiping a tear from Rarity's eye. "Why have you been crying? Did Blueblood do something to you that we don't know about? If he did, you better tell me so I can go kick his flank."
"What? No, of course not... He was just so uncouth! He was so rude and terrible! I thought that he would be the stallion of my dreams, ready to sweep my off of my feet; I thought that he would be my knight in shining armor. Instead... instead he was just like all of the other stallions that think that I'm just some object for their personal enjoyment. I don't understand why I keep fancying all of these shallow stallions! Is something wrong with me? Do I just attract the wrong types of mates?"
"Come on Rarity, don't talk like that. You know that that's not true. There's nothing wrong with you," Rainbow said, patting Rarity softly on the back.
"Oh but Rainbow, there is! I keep thinking that I'll find my prince, but instead I find a bunch of paupers pretending that they like me because I'm an Element of Harmony, or because they just want to use me for a one time fling! I'm worthleessss!" Rarity cried. Rainbow Dash just grabbed Rarity's muzzle in both fore-hooves a little more forcefully, pointing her face towards her.
"Rarity, stop it right now! You know that none of that is true! Those stallions are just giant jerks, why should you care what they think?! You're intelligent, you're funny, you're so much more organized that me, and to top it all off, you're like the prettiest pony that I know! You've got a successful business and you're the Element of Generosity for crying out loud! There's nothing wrong with you!" Rainbow shouted, the compliments easily rolling off of her tongue.
"R-rainbow... Do you really mean all of that?"

Rainbow Dash leaned her head back to get a better look at Rarity. As she viewed Rarity from this angle, she felt a strange twinge in the pit of her stomach. The way that the sun shone in through the window shown Rarity in all of her brilliance. Her unkempt mane flowed down her face like a purple, cascading water fall, making her look better than usually in Rainbow's eyes. Rainbow's coat turned a vivid shade of scarlet, "Rarity, don't you think that's moving a little to fast?!"

Rarity gave Rainbow a hug and a small kiss, after which Rainbow went into the washroom to clean herself off. She left the Carousel Boutique with a smile on her face as she walked out the door. Taking a few steps into the town, she found her four friends waiting for her.
"Ummm... Rainbow, is Rarity alright?"
"Yeah, you were gone for a really long time!"
"Yes girls, Rarity was sad before, but she's feeling a lot better now... Come to think of it, I think I am too."
