Chapter 5: Redemption

“RJ, even if we make it un-detected to the castle, what are you going to say to the princess. How will you convince her to trust you?” I hesitate pondering the question. After several moments I turn to her.

“I never wanted to be a soldier, but there was nothing else left for me. My parents had passed my world destroyed, I was broken. War and ignorance is what tore me from my home and family. I will never let it happen to another people, especially you." I now open my helmet, a small smile on my face. Twilight begins to form a similar expression.

“How will I gain her trust?” I repeat the question. "By telling the truth of what I am. So far I have brought nothing but disharmony into your world. I am going to change that today. I only ask if you will help me.” I silence myself awaiting a response. Short after Twilight begins to speak.

“I will.” We both smile. I then step back.

“Computer, re-activate cloaking function.”

“Yes sir.” Almost immediately after the computers response the familiar transparent form engulfs my body. Twilight turns forward, a confident look on her face.

“Alright, follow me.” Twilight gallops forward as I stay closely behind. I mind my surroundings not giving a single sign of my presence. As I pass the civilians in the streets, so peaceful and calm I began to worry. Would they accept me into their world, their lives? Or would they cast me away, an outsider. I needed to get this right, this moment is all that matters.

Then there it was, the immense gilded structure standing proudly in the center of the city. We both come to a slow walk as we approach the gate. All I could see were two gargantuan wooden slabs guarding the entrance. The wall surrounding the castle lined with royal guards. As we advance a new figure stepped out in front of the rest. But he was different, his armor seemed more particular. He emitted some form of significance above the other guards.

Then it came to me, it was him.

The white colt from before, the one who led the assault on me during my escape from the hospital.  Twilight exhales a sigh of relief.

“Oh good my brother is here.” Twilight whispers. I stop dumbstruck before speeding up to Twilight’s side.

“What do you mean brother?” I say in a whisper but rather angrily.

“That is my brother Shining Armor, head of the royal guard.

“That is the bastard who caused me to crash into the protective barrier during my escape!” Twilight forms an awkward look on her face.

“Oh…well, we should not dwell on the past.” Twilight sports an awkward smile as we both continue to approach the gate.

Suddenly the white colt in lead of the guards notices our presence and begins to speak.

“Twilight! Good your finally here.” I keep my distance from Twilight not wanting to gain anyone’s attention.

“Brother, I came as fast as I could.” Twilight is now directly in front of the castle wall.

“Let me open the gate so I can let you in.”

“Thank you Shining.” A violet luminescence builds around Shining Armor’s horn. The same spectral mass begins to form around the massive doors. With a loud thump and a squeal the doors begin to fold open. I remain to keep my distance as Twilight begins to walk inside. I start for the entrance.

“Gaurds stand clear; I’m going to cast a protection spell around the gate I don’t want to take any risks. I stand in shock. I notice Twilight swiftly direct her line of sight to her brother, a nervous look on her face.

I sprint for the door. As I run I notice a small mass of light once again beginning to form around Shining’s horn. Then suddenly a line of purple spectra forms at the top of the gate and begins to descend.

I run with all my might still just shy of the gate. I sprint through the entrance, but it is too late. The barrier clips my shoulder as I pass though the frame. I fall to the ground.

“ERROR ERROR…CLOAKING SYSTEMS FAILING CLOKING SYSTEMS FAILING.” The computer yells in a loud monotone voice.

“Uh oh.” Still on the ground the transparent cloak around my body begins to fizzle. All eyes are now turned to me.

“What in the name of Celestia is that?” I hear one of the soldiers yell. My cloak begins to dissipate until it is completely dissolved. I look up; Twilight is standing still in shock looking around at all the surrounding soldiers sporting a similar expression. Even the proud leader goes bug eyed at the sight of me in the castle grounds.

“It’s him, it’s the monster! Al unicorns open fire!” Shining Armor yells.

All around me a growing yellow mass starts to form around the circumference of the wall. I can tell they are beginning to execute an all-out assault.

“Stop, please I do not wish to fight you.” They do not recede and only continue to charge their attack.

“Twilight get to safety now!”  I yell across the courtyard.

“But what about you!” Twilight yells in concern.

“I will be fine I can handle myself!” Twilight continues to look around at the growing mass of magical energy before once again focusing on me. She nods slowly and runs for the castle doors. I turn back to the crowd of soldiers surrounding me.

“Computer, divert all power to shields, maximum power.”

“Yes sir, diverting power now.” A blinding white light builds around my body. The soldiers remain concentrated on their attack. I remain stolid.

“Hold on, this is going to be a bumpy ride.” I close my eyes.

“STOP!” A booming voice echos from the sky above.  I swiftly look up. The mass emanating from the soldiers horns begin to dissipate as they join me in admiration. As I begin to focus my view I gain visual of the origin of the voice. It was the princess. Her wings in full spread hovering above the court yard. Her face filled with anger and distaste. She begins to lower down to the courtyard. As she does the guards all kneel to respect their leader. I stand erect staring at the white mare as she approaches me.

When the princess touches down I begin to speak. “I did not come here to fight.” I say in a fierce tone.

“Then why are you here.” The majestic princess says somewhat annoyed.

“To explain myself to you, and the world.” We both remain silent for several moments.

“Explain what?”

“What I am, where I am from, and how I came to be here. I do not wish for war, but to make peace.”

“How can I believe you?”

“Because if I really wanted to wage war with your people, everyone in this courtyard would be dead.” I say with a grim tone. The princess at the moment seems surprised by the remark, but then returns to her centered facial expression.

“Come with me.” I walk forward to the princesses’ side as we walk towards the castle. I look behind me to see dozens of guards still kneeling to their princess. Shining Armor is looking up staring at me with a look of hate in his eyes. I turn back forward and direct my view to a small terrace on the balcony above. A distraught Twilight is looking down at me. I nod to her. She repeats my gesture as I enter through the castle doors.
