After the Royal Wedding and the defeat of the Changelings, Twilight stayed in Canterlot a little long to show Princess Celestia her new magic and to talk with Princess Luna about what has happened in Ponyville since she was there last for Nightmare Night. As she’d expected, her time with Princess Celestia and Princess Luna were perfect and all went according to schedule.
While she was in Canterlot, Twilight decided to see her parents because she hasn’t seen them since she moved to Ponyville. When she arrived at her parent’s house, she knocked as politely as she could without being needy. When the door opened, she was greeted by her mother, Starshine Sparkle. “Hello Twilight, you don’t need to knock you can right on in, you know that.”
“Hey mom, sorry just so used to being polite as I’ve learned from some of my friends in Ponyville,” Twilight said as she walked into her parent’s house.
“It’s okay dear, we know your just being polite. Anyway, how is life in Ponyville? Have you found someone to settle down with yet?” Starshine asked just as her husband, Night Light, walked into the room.
“Yes, have you found someone to settle down with and make a family? We are beginning to think you don’t care about that at all.” Night Light said as he sat down next his wife.
“No, I have not found anyone to settle down with because I’m haven’t found the right stallion yet. And life in Ponyville is great, thank you for asking.” Twilight said with annoyance in her voice.
Her parent’s looked a little crestfallen at what they heard you say. “Oh, but Twilight, we don’t want to see you lonely all the time.” Starshine said with disappointment laced in her voice.
“Your mother’s right dear. We just want to see you happy with someone that cares for you a lot,” Night Light said.
“I’ll be fine guys, I just need time to figure out what I want in the guy that I date,” Twilight said. “Now can we drop the subject because I really want to spend time with you guys.”
“Sure dear, we can drop the subject and just spend time with you.” Starshine said.
So for the next couple of hours, Twilight and her parent’s spent quality time together that they couldn’t spend in the past due to being apart. As the sun was going down Twilight and her parents were in the Canterlot Castle Garden’s with both Princess Celestia and Luna enjoying the scenery and the stars. They were enjoying a peaceful night in silence until Princess Celestia decided to break it with the start of a gentle conversation. “So Twilight how was your day with your parent’s. I know you haven’t seen them since you left for Ponyville to begin your studies.”
“It was wonderful princess. We had lunch at the El Haysada then saw a play at the Lunar theatre,” Twilight said with a smile on her face, thinking back on the day she had with her parent’s. That inevitably led to her thinking about what her parent’s asked her when she got to their house. Little did she know, a certain statue across the garden from them was listening to their conversation.
“Well I’m glad you had a great time. Now if you will excuse me, I will retire for the night for my royal duties tomorrow,” Princess Celestia said getting up to go to her bedroom. “Will you be staying with your parent’s or staying here Twilight?”
“I will be staying here since all my stuff is in my old bedroom,” Twilight said.
“Very well then, I will see you tomorrow for breakfast in our private dining hall. Now if you will excuse me, I will be on my way,” Princess Celestia said as she walked off.
“We will- I mean, I will also be leaving to attend to the nightly duties of Equestria. Have a wonderful night all and I will see you tomorrow Twilight Sparkle,” Princess Luna said leaving for the throne room.
After the princess’ went their separate ways, Twilight spent a little more time with her parent’s in the garden. “So, I might as well be going off to bed to plan on what I am going to do tomorrow. I might stop by to spend more time with you. Goodnight mom, goodnight dad.” After she said goodbye and gave her parent’s a hug she went to her bedroom to get ready for the next day.
Little did any of the ponies in the garden know, a certain statue was no longer in its place.
As Twilight was walking to her bedroom, she couldn’t get the feeling something was missing from her life. She also couldn’t get what her parents were talking about earlier that day. She was also feeling like something was watching her, little did she know it wasn’t something but someone.
Before she reached her room, she felt something touch her back. She charged her horn with magic and turned around to scare off her attacker but nothing was there. She calmed down her magic and walked to her room for a peaceful night sleep.
When she got into her room, she was startled by the sight of a certain creature lying on her bed. “Hello my dear, Twilight Sparkle. How are you these days?” the creature asked.
“How did you get out of your stone prison, Discord?” Twilight asked as she charged her with magic to defend herself from the draconequus that was on her bed.
“Now, now my dear. I heard you thinking to yourself about how lonely you have been feeling. I myself have been feeling the same for the past millennium. And to answer your question, I felt the internal chaos going on inside the big brain of yours,” Discord said.
“That explains how you got out of your stone prison, but what do you want with me?” Twilight asked calming down a little bit.
“You remember when I held you when I was explaining the beauty of my chaos? Well, when our eyes melt, that’s when I realized I was missing something in my life,” Discord said getting to the point rather quickly.
“I know I’m going to regret this, but what is missing from your life?” she asked the chaos bringer.
“Well my chaos is all really fun, but it’s too uncontrolled to be any real fun. That’s when I realized I need my chaos to be organized, and that’s where you come in,” Discord said.
“Why do I fit in to your life?” Twilight asked.
“Well, I realized you need some fun in your life and I am the only person who can help. Plus, we are both lonely and can’t find the right person to spend all the time in the world with,” Discord said. “I can also give you something no-one else in the world can give you.”
“And what is that Discord?” she asked contemplating what Discord is going to say.
“Eternal life and all the magic in the world with very little ramifications to any of the spells you can cast,” Discord said. “With the power I can give you, even Princess Celestia is can’t stand hoof-to-hoof with your power.”
“What’s the catch if I agree to your deal?” Twilight asked.
“No catch my dear. The only other thing you get besides the two things I just said is someone to spend all of eternity with and be loved unconditionally.” Discord said actually hurt by what Twilight had asked.
“How do I know you’re just tricking me?” she asked.
“Why would I joke around about love? I may be mean to ponies, but even I know it’s a bad thing to joke about love. Plus, if I was joking, do you think I would hurt the only person that feels sorry for putting me back in a stone prison?” Discord asked with a small smile on his face.
Twilight was shocked at what he had just said. “How did you know I felt sorry for turning you back to stone?”
“Because I saw the hurt in your eyes when you and the other elements cast the spell that did it. I knew you were going to be hurting for awhile, I was just waiting for the right moment to escape and express myself to you,” Discord said getting off the bed and walking over to Twilight.
Twilight was struggling to hold back tears of joy at knowing that the only person she cared for likes her back. “That’s so sweet Discord. But what will we do if the princess’ and my friends and family find out?” she asked as she pulled Discord in her hooves for a loving hug.
“We will figure that out in time my dear, but right now it’s just you and me,” Discord said hugging the pony he loved more than his chocolate milk.
----------At Princess Celestia’s chamber----------
Princess Celestia and Princess Luna were enjoying a nice peaceful conversation on the balcony of the formers bedroom when they heard a knock on the large golden doors. Princess Celestia opened the door with her magic to let the person in her room.
“Your Majesty, Discords statue has turned to rumble and there is no sign of him. What do we do?” the guard asked.
Both of the princess’ were shocked at this news before Princess Celestia spoke. “We will let the rest of the guards know in the morning and begin a search for the draconeqqus, am I understood?”
“Yes your majesty,” the guard said as he bowed and left the room.
“What are we going to do sister? We can’t just do nothing, he could retake control of Equestria,” Princess Luna said with worry evident in her voice.
“We will inform Twilight and her friends tomorrow and go from there,” Princess Celestia said.
----------Twilight’s bedroom---------
Twilight and Discord had just released from their embrace after about five minutes. “So, what do we do now my dear?” Discord asked not wanting to sound impatient.
“Well I don’t know about you, but I’m tired. How about for right now we just sleep and figure out what to do next tomorrow,” Twilight said before yawning.
“Sounds like a wonderful idea. And tomorrow I will give you eternal life and unlimited magic. Sound good to you my dear?” Discord said following Twilight to the bed.
“Sounds wonderful Dizzy,” she said.
“Why did you just call me Dizzy?” he asked, confused about the name.
“What, can’t I give the one I love a nickname?” she asked. “I mean if you don’t like it, I won’t call you that anymore.”
“It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just that no-one has ever given me a nickname before. I actually love the nickname. Now I just need to give you an adorable name to call you by,” he said with joy evident in his voice.
So they curled up next to each other and fell asleep to the warmth of the one they loved.
It was just before Princess Celestia had to raise the sun when Twilight awoke from her peaceful slumber. When she woke, she noticed something warm wrapped around her then remembered about what had happened the night before. She had a smile on her face, but it soon fell when she thought about what would happen if either of the princess’ or the guards found Discord and started to panic. This unfortunately woke up her lover, “What is the matter my dear Sparkle?”
“The matter is that what we are going to do if either the princess’ or the guards find you,” Twilight said, still in a panic attack.
Discord just laughed at the mare while she was having her panic attack. This however just confused the unicorn. “What are you laughing at Dissy?”
“The reason I’m laughing is because you are forgetting one important detail about our situation my dear,” he said while laughing.
“And what, I might ask is this important detail?” she asked a little frustrated.
Discord stop laughing and took on a serious look before saying, “I can turn myself into a pony just like you or I can turn myself invisible my dear Sparkle.”
Twilight blinked a few times before she finally understood what Discord had said. “Then turn invisible, but stay close to me in case something happens, alright.”
“Fine, fine I’ll turn invisible for you. But first, since we’re both awake, how about I give you what I promised to you last night,” Discord said with a smile on his mismatched face.
Twilight was confused for a moment then remembered what he meant. “Alright, so what do we do first?” she asked.
“First of all, you need to calm down or something could go horribly wrong if you’re not focused,” he stated matter-of-factly. “Secondly, I need you to close your eyes and clear your head.”
“Alright,” she said, doing as instructed. “Like this?”
“Perfect. Now concentrate on the sound of my voice,” he said. “When I tell you to do so, concentrate your magic and lower your head till I see that your horn is parallel with the floor.”
She started concentrating her magic and lowered her head. “Now stop lowering your head. All I want you to do is think of eternal life and infinite magic,” he instructed. “When you hear my fingers snap, release the magic over your entire body and the spell will be done.”
“Are thinking about the items I told you to think about?” he asked. After he received a nod of confirmation, he snapped his fingers. When Twilight heard the snap, she opened her eyes and released the spell. She felt a slight tingle course through her body and the spell was complete.
Once the spell was complete, Twilight looked herself over but noticed nothing has changed. Then she looked at Discord and asked, “How come I still look the same?”
“The reason you still look the same is because the spell doesn’t change appearance. Also, I don’t want Celestia knowing of my power being used on one of her subjects. She knows almost every single one of my tricks except the two I mentioned earlier,” he said.
“Well how do I know the spell worked?” she asked.
“You know how I mentioned you will have unlimited magic?” she nodded in confirmation. “Well, with that you also got the ability to do the things I can do.” He said.
“What are some the things I can that you can do?” she asked.
“Try summoning a cotton candy cloud,” he stated plainly.
She focused her magic and did as told, producing a cloud made of cotton candy. “That’s interesting. What else can I do?” she asked with a huge grin on her face.
“Now try making the cloud you just made rain chocolate milk,” he said.
Like last she focused her magic and sure enough the cloud started producing chocolate milk rain. “As my friend Rainbow Dash would say, ‘This is AWSOME!’”
“I’m glad you are happy my dear, but you should probably get ready for breakfast with the princess’. And don’t worry, I’ll be with you the entire time,” he said reassuring the mare with a hug.
“Thank you Dissy. I don’t know what I’d do right now without you,” she said returning the hug. With that said and done, Discord turned himself invisible and they left for the private dining hall that Princess Celestia mentioned.
"Now that I'm invisible, you should know that you are the only one that can see me alright," Discord said.
"Got it Twilight said happily.
*****Princess Celestia’s Chamber at the same time*****
Princess Celestia had just awakened from one of the most stressful nights of sleep she had ever had. The reason it was so stressful was because she couldn’t stop thinking about Discord and the trouble he could’ve caused in so little time. She decided that before she raised the sun, she would indulge herself in a nice hot cup of Jamareican blend coffee. After she had her coffee and raised the sun, she summoned one of her fastest pegasi guards.
“You summoned me your majesty?” the guard asked.
“Yes, I need you and your squad to go to Ponyville to get the rest of the Elements of Harmony & Spike and bring them here immediately,” she said.
“Right away your highness,” the guard said with a bow, then left room with lightning fast speed that would impress the Wonderbolt’s.
“Now that I have that out of the way, I think I’ll head down to the dining hall to enjoy a peaceful breakfast with my sister and faithful student,” she said to herself walking out of her room to the private dining hall.
*****Ponyville 20 minutes after Princess Celestia’s order’s*****
The pegasi guards were just outside of Ponyville when the leader stopped them to give the rest of his squad the orders. “Alright men, we are here on official business by order of the princess of the sun. I want you all to split up and gather all the Elements of Harmony and Master Spike and bring them to the carriage to transport them back to the castle. Am I understood?”
“Yes sir,” the rest of the guards said before flying off to receive who they were sent to get.
It took the guards about fifteen minutes to gather the elements and dragon and bring them to the carriage that will transport them to the castle.
“What is the meaning of all this. I was in the middle of working on my latest dress to show to Fancy Pants,” Rarity said with annoyance etched in her voice.
“Ah agree with Rarity on this one. Why in tarnation are ya takin’ us away from our busy lives?” Applejack said starting to get angry with the guards.
The squad leader decided to do his best to try and calm the mares and answer their questions without revealing the nature of the emergency. “The reason we are taking you to Canterlot we cannot answer, but be rest assured all your questions will be answered when we get back to Canterlot. Now please get into the carriage so we can be on our way.”
“I don’t know what this is about, but if you can answer me this one question, maybe I might just comply and go with to Canterlot with you,” Rainbow said getting in the face of the squad leader.
“I’ll do my best to answer your question Miss Dash,” the guard said with a professional look on his face.
“Does the nature of the emergency involve us using the Elements of Harmony?” Rainbow asked still annoyed at the guards.
“To be perfectly honest, the situation just might involve the elements being used,” he said.
“Ah can tell if someone is lyin’ or not, and ah don’ believe he’s lyin’ RD,” Applejack said getting I the carriage.
“Alright fine, I’ll get in the carriage so I don’t make the same mistake like when Discord was loose,” Rainbow said following Applejack. The fact that Applejack never lies got the rest of the girls and Spike to get in the carriage.
“Alright men, next stop Canterlot Castle. Let’s get there as fast as possible so we don’t keep the princess waiting,” the squad leader said with finality.
*****Private Dining Hall in Canterlot Castle 15 minutes earlier*****
Twilight Sparkle has just arrived at the dining hall Princess Celestia had told her to go. When she arrived at the doors, the two guards standing watch noticed her, gave her their nods of hello, then opened the doors to let her in.
“Hello there, Twilight Sparkle,” Princess Luna said in a cheery voice.
“Good morning Princess Luna. Did you have a nice night?” Twilight asked.
Princess looked down at the table thinking about the stressful night she had last night. “Unfortunately not. But don’t worry, my sister will explain everything when your friends arrive.”
“Oh, and what is it that she will explain princess?” Twilight asked tilting her head in curiosity.
“Like my sister said, I will explain when your friends and Spike arrive,” Princess Celestia said. “Now please sit down and let’s enjoy a peaceful breakfast.”
So they sat around the table enjoying their breakfast and having a peaceful conversation about Twilight’s studies and other things. Near the end of their breakfast, a guard came into the room and went straight to Princess Celestia and whispered something incomprehensible.
“Send them in,” she said to the guard who bowed and went to receive the guests. “It seems your friends have just arrived to hear what I have to say, Twilight.”
Right after she said that, Twilight’s friends and number one assistant came into the room and bowed in respect to the princess’. “Please rise and take a seat,” Princess Celestia said.
The Elements of Harmony and Spike took their seats, and Twilight was the first to speak. “Princess, might I ask what this is all about?”
“Yeah, I agree with Twi’ on this one. I was just in the middle of my latest design for Fancy Pant’s,” Rarity said, still annoyed about earlier.
“Please calm down so I can explain. Last night when I was enjoying the night and some tea with my sister, a guard came to me with some very unsettling news,” Princess Celestia started.
“And what news might that be princess?” Fluttershy asked somewhat quiet but still audible.
“By some unknown source, Discord has escaped from his stone prison and is on the loose,” the lunar princess said.
