//-------------------------------------------------------// Because of Opalescence -by Carbie- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Opalescence //-------------------------------------------------------// Opalescence Dedicated to a very special cat; Lenny, who has been given only one year to live at most. Never forget Lenny, I’ll love you forever. I sat down at the funeral weeping. It was small, just a tiny one in my backyard. Although, my friends still came. Twilight, Fluttershy, Pinkie, Rainbow, and Applejack comforted me but they still didn’t understand how Opalescence meant to me. She was my favorite cat in the world; she meant more to me then my fashion career. I was all decked out in black. A ruffled black dress and black veil covered my face. After all the silence I finally stood up. I grabbed a rose and went up to Opalescence’s coffin, placing it down on it and starting to cry again. Twilight sighed, “I’m sorry Rarity. Opalescence was a good cat.” I never did reply back. I was lost in thought Slowly everyone walked away leaving me to mourn in peace. I was leaned over Opalescence’s coffin late into the night crying until I couldn’t take the brisk cold anymore and finally went inside. Sitting down in my sewing room, I sighed. I tried to remember the good things about my cat and not grieve too much. The first memory that came back to me was of when I first adopted the dove white cat. It was a very happy day… I was just a little pony; I didn’t even have my cute mark. I was down about not having a pet to call my own and love forever. My parents noticed my sadness and decided to take me to the pet store. There were so many pets to adopt there but I couldn’t find any that really suit me. There was a goldfish in a bowl but it was kind of boring. A colorful bird sat in a cage but it was very loud and noisy. A doggie was nearby but it was to slobbery and dirty. I was about to finally give up when I saw something amazing, a cute little kitty walked right up to me and nuzzled my hoof. I fell instantly in love. It was a very fluffy snowy cat with an adorable face. I picked up the baby kitty with a little burst of magic and brought her right up to her face. I bought the cat instantly and brought her back to my parent’s house. I still didn’t know what to name her though. I never did know what to name her until I got my cutie mark, before I just called her ‘kitty”. When I got my cutie mark though, the rock held all kinds of jewels but only one stood out, opal. I used most of the jewels to decorate the costumes but I saved just a few. An opal stone and a few blue rocks. Then I made a collar for her and put it around her neck, I named her Opalescence. I almost smiled, thinking of that joyous moment. I also remembered the day I moved to Ponyvillle and Opalescence ran away… I was very happy that day, I had just bought the boutique and I had finished setting up everything where it was supposed to be. I brought Opal out of her moving basket and instantly she growled, I suppose she liked the old home better. “Now come on Opal, you’ll grow to love the place.” I told her, but she didn’t want to hear it. She flashed out of the house so fast I didn’t even have time to try and use magic. I ran after her but I lost track of her. I looked all around town when I bumped into a yellow pegasus carrying a basket. “Oh sorry, I was just looking for my cat, Opalescence. Have you seen here?” I asked. “Oh um… I’m sorry.” She hid her face with her mane. “I-I did find a white cat, I w-was looking around to find her o-owner.” She opened up her basket and Opal’s head popped out. “Oh Opalescence!” I levitated her up to my face. “Never run away like that again! You scared mommy very much. Thank you so much um…. What’s your name? I’m Rarity.” “H-Hi Rarity, I-I’m Fluttershy…” “Well thank you Fluttershy, I hope I see you around some time.” That was the moment that scared me the most about Opal. I never knew what I would do without her, I guess now I have to figure that out. She was the cat that put a smile on my face and never disappointed me. I started to cry again but tried to dry my wet tears. I loved that cat with all my heart. I walked outside and dug out a hole to put Opal’s coffin in. I actually didn’t even worry about getting dirty Opal meant more to me than just getting dirty. I then lowered Opal into the dirt and ran inside, tears streaming down my face; you think I would have been dehydrated by now. I didn’t get much sleep that night or the next. I wouldn’t even get up and that made me sadder because I remembered the time that my friends took Opal and put her up in that tree to get me outside, but this time there was no Opal to get me up. A few days later Fluttershy showed up at my door. After a few knocks on the door I said, “Go away….” “Oh I-I’m sorry, should I come back later?” Fluttershy’s timid voice made me sigh. “Fine…” I said stretching out the ‘i’ I came up to the door with a very horrible case of bedhead but didn’t even care. “What is it?” I lazily spoke. “Um… hi Rarity, I um… noticed you were very down about Opal dying and just a couple of days ago one of my cats had babies. This one I thought would be great for you.” She held up a chocolate brown kitty. It was very fluffy and had the cutest face ever; it reminded her vaguely of Opal as a young kitty except for the hue of its fur. I held the kitty up with a burst of magic and held her up to my face. I loved the soft delicate fur and happy attitude the cat held. I didn’t want to just replace Opal but this would help me deal with the pain of losing my cat. “Thank you Fluttershy.” I said as I hugged the pegasus. I brought the cat inside and set her down on her sewing table. Instantly the kitty started to play with the sheets of cloth and thread, which made me laugh because I remembered Opal doing that a lot. I then set to work by delicately sewing cloth together and measuring. When I was done I put my new little dress on the kitty. It was a brown ruffled little dress with tiny little brown boots on her paws. “Welcome home, Chocolate.” I said, thinking up a perfect name for my cat. I then combed up Chocolate's fur and put it into a coffee brown bow. I felt happy again. Opal might have gone to a better place but this was her final gift to me, a new kitty to cherish just as much as I treasured her. ~Years later~ "Come on Chocolate!" I singsongly said to my not so small anymore cat. A huge lump of brown fur came into the sewing room and lazily flopped down onto the table. I then clipped and trimmed her fur until she looked young and alive again. Then I brought out a new outfit for her. It was a little sweater for her to bundle herself up in on the cold winter day. "It's time to move to Canterlot! I still cannot believe I finally got my big break in the fashion business!" I excitedly spoke. It was really true, a new fashion magazine loved my designs so much that they wanted to showcase a new outfit of mine every week for everyone to see! So I had to move to Canterlot because they got me a brand new boutique there. I got out a basket and carefully put Chocolate in. Then I covered her with a blanket. Everything was already moved from my boutique. Then I looked out the window and shed a tear, thinking of Opalescence. I left my cat inside and went to the backyard. Opalescence was buried right where I was standing. I broke into tears but I still managed to say my goodbyes to my cat. "Hi there... Opal, I-I've really missed you around here but Chocolate is helping out. I wish you could see me now, moving to Canterlot and pursuing my dream. You would've been happy, even if you were always a little on the grumpy side of life. Thinking about you is what has made me want to achieve my dream more. You and Chocolate would have been good friends, you both really like to mess around with my sewing items and have a very good attachment to certain things. Chocolate really loves the old toy stuffed mouse that you used to never let go of. I really do miss you Opal." I got up and picked an array of different flowers. I then tied them together with a neat bow. She walked back over to her grave and sat down, placing the flowers down right there. "Never forget Opal, I’ll love you forever.”
