The virus
The peaceful sanctuary of Zecora’s hut was as it normally was. The critters of the Everfree were chirping, buzzing, and scurrying about doing their day to day things. All was quiet, until a pair of hooves galloped through the forest to the hut of our Zebra friend. Zecora was in her hut, meditating upside down balancing her head on a bamboo pole. She fell hard onto the floor, bouncing twice then landing on her face. When she got back up, she looked at the door that had been busted open.
“ZECORA!” the out of breath pony yelled. “I-I need your help,” the pony said between deep and quick breaths.
“What is it little one? What has made you come around?”said Zecora with a worried expression on her face.
The orange earth pony with a brown mane that also had a hint of red was standing in the doorway panting. Her cutie mark was six gold and white beautiful stars and her eyes were as blue as the sky.
“I-Its my husband,” she said still trying to catch her breath “H-HES DYING AND THE DOCTORS SAID THEY CAN’T DO ANYTHING FOR HIM!” As her legs gave way she fell to the floor and started to cry.
“Maybe I can help my filly friend, with a cure for your husband,” she said walking around her hut.
She starts grabbing some of the needed ingredients; herbal leaves, the root of a maple tree, aspirin tree bark, wild Everfree fern, and wild berries. When she was putting the ingredients in her cauldron she grabbed the wrong type of berries. Instead of wild berries she grabbed poison berries. She mixed the ingredients faster and faster the cauldron started to smoke very heavily and then with another puff of smoke, the brew in the cauldron turned a dark green.
Zecora moved to a cabinet and pulled a jar out filling it up with the green potion. The orange earth pony gave Zecora a hug and before she left, smiled back at her and said thank you as she walk down the twisting and twining walkway of the Everfree. While she was walking down the walkway, she was thinking about what if she doesn’t get to her husband in time. When that thought went in her head, she started to gallop. Finally getting out of the wretched Everfree, she was too tired to even stand. As she sat there, she thought what if he’s dead which made her adrenaline skyrocket faster and faster as she ran, she finally got to the hospital where her beloved husband was dying.
She gave the doctors the potion that Zecora had given her. The doctors trusted her potion and gave it to the dying stallion. In ten minutes, the stallion was shaking violently as he started to cough up blood. Two short minutes later the stallion was dead as the heart monitor started to flat line. The mare that was by his side started to cry until she saw his hoof move. She stared in disbelief she didn't understand what was happening. As her husband sat straight up with no emotion in his eyes he began to groan. The orange mare stood up and gave him a big hug as she started to cry on his shoulder. The stallion leaned in and took a gaping bite out of the mare. She fell over and the undead stallion ripped her open, pulling her guts out all over the floor as blood squirted all over the walls. At the end of the feast, blood covered the walls and everything in the room was painted red with the horrible pony liquids. The doctors corpses were ripped open, limbs were ripped off and the corpses started walking around the room. As the doctors ran in all directions trying to get out of the way of the things that were coming at them, Nurse RedHeart pushed the button for security but when they got there no living pony was around. Only the undead that were feasting on the decaying corpses that were killed just moment's ago. One of the security officers fell to the ground at the disgusting site that his eyes were seeing but upon falling, he hit a broom and it fell to the floor making a loud cracking noise. The infected turned and looked with hollowed eyes, stopped what they were doing, and walked slowly over to the officers.
"OH NO!" One of the officers yelled which made the infected walk even faster to where he was fighting them off.
The officer that had fallen had been bitten, he bit his friend in the back leg which made the guard stumble and had been taken down by five other undead. They started ripping him open with their teeth in his body, tearing his intestines out and spreading his rose red blood all over the floor, making him a feast for the undead.
In Ponyville nopony had any idea what was going on inside the hospital until one of the infected found its way out and found her first target. As the undead mare made its way to a cyan pony with a rainbow mane and tail, the infected got closer to the distracted mare. When it touched her, she flew off without even realizing there was something behind her. The infected mare was in outrage that it did not get its target but as it strolled along it found a schoolyard where the foals were playing. It walked up to the fence that surrounded the school. Cheerilee walked up to the undead mare, curious as to what it was doing..
"Are you ok," she asked, concerned for the way it looked. All it gave back was a deep groan before the undead mare leaned over the fence and bit her front leg.
Cheerilee pulled her leg away before it could do anything else and she had the fillies and colts go into the school room. As they made their way in the school house Cheerilee began to feel different and had the craving to kill. Ten minutes later, Cheerilee was not with the fillies and colts. Something else was there, something that was not seen by anypony in Ponyville. She did not look the same. Her mane was knotted, her coat blood stained, and her speech was no longer words It was now low growls.
As the reanimated corpse of what used to be Cheerilee walked around stumbling, trying to keep her balance, one of her back legs are being dragged behind her, blood dripping from her mouth and staining the ground marking where she has been. One of the little fillies, with orange hair and a white coat, walked up to her to see if everything was ok with their dear teacher, Cheerilee. When Twist walked up to her, she began to hear the growls of the undead mare. As Twist screamed, this alerted the instincts of the infection and made the reanimated Cheerilee run rampant, killing anything it saw starting with Twist pinning her down and staring into Twist’s eyes before her teeth came down into her neck, the blood seeping in to Cheerilee's mouth and made the ripping and tearing of Twist’s flesh more vigorous. Twist could not do anything except watch her former teacher rip her skin off her body. When Cheerilee had finished with the foals, intestines hung from the rafters, blood flooded the room, and the fillies and colts were eating each other.
As one of the parents came up to the door to get his little filly, he went to open the door but it was locked from the inside. He started the knock on the door when nopony answered the door he reared up on his front legs and started to buck the door down . With every hit the door got even weaker. He heard the groans of the things that were behind the door and with one more hit, the the big red doors flew off the hinges into the blood covered room. When the stallion turned around he was horrified at the sight he saw. Blood covering the walls, dead pony’s ripped open and walking around, and ponies eating each other.
What he saw and the smell of the rotting bodies were so potent that he vomited all over himself making him smell delicious to the carnivorous infections. As he stammered around trying to get his balance, as he was taken down by Featherweight while the other beasts were pushing their way through the door, trying to get to the discombobulated stallion. He yelled out in pain as the teeth of the infected sunk deep in to his flesh. The stallion pushed the undead off of him as it took some of his skin with it. He ran clumsily into Ponyville trying to seek out help. He was thinking where to go but then it hit him. Today was the Annual Summer Sun Celebration. Maybe he could run over there and find some help.
On the way there, something in him started to change. He was starting to forget things, and he forgot about what had happened earlier. When he made it to the preparation area for the celebration, his blood ran ice cold. Everypony stopped and stared at the sickly insane pony growling at others walking by. Finally in the midst of all the ponies, the attack started by the infection tackling Filthy Rich, taking him down and eating at his exposed neck. His screams of pain mixed with the screams of horror and disgust by the other ponies only attracted more zombies. By now, Filthy Rich’s head is severed from his now lifeless corpse. Hearing the yelling, Spike peaked out from the top floor window of the Library and seeing the bloody mess of the beheaded body that had been dragged from the spot of his gruesome demise.
“SPIKE!” Twilight called “HAVE YOU FOUND THAT BOOK YET!”
“Spike what are you doing up there? You know I need you!”
As he realized what he was looking at he started to get nervous looking around the room to see if anypony saw what he was looking at.Twilight walked up to him. ”Spike, what are you...” She paused for a moment to process the horrid sight that took place outside her window. “S-Spike send a message to Princess Celestia right away!”
“Y-You got it!”
“Dear Princess Celestia, something terrible has happened and we need help.”
“Spike send it right away!”
As the letter was sent and the smoke cleared, it wasn't a moment later till Spike received the message from their Princess and the note read.
“My faithful student we are sending word for help as this letter gets to you, be ready for transport. I'm sorry, but the elements of harmony won't be able to help us this time, get your friends and be ready.”
“Spike go and get Rarity, and Applejack I will go get Rainbow Dash, Pinkie pie, and Fluttershy, meet back here and be ready to go.” As the two ran in different directions, the infection grew ever restless. Claiming more and more victims than before. As their numbers grew, so did their appetites for pony flesh. Spike snuck to Rarity’s Boutique, easily avoiding the victims, He knocked on the door and was quickly greeted by Sweetie Bell.
“Great you guys are ok!” As he ran up and gave the two ponies a quick hug.
“Yea why wouldn't we be?” Sweetie Bell said returning the hug.
“Twilight wants me to get you two and Applejack back to the Library, The Princess needs us all there to be picked up. Something Horrible is happening to the ponies of Ponyville. They’re not the same ponies that we have come to know, they’re slow, clumsy,and they don’t talk at all. All they do is growl and moan, but that doesn’t compare to what I saw them do when they were preparing at Town Square.” He then shuddered when he reimagined the gruesome sight.
“What happened? Spike tell me everything you saw.” Rarity said with curiosity in her voice. He leaned in and whispered what had happened. Rarity’s eyes dilated, and she said with disgust in her voice “Oh my Celestia!”All of the sudden a banging on the door followed by moaning and growling sent shivers through everypony’s spine. Rarity screeched “Go out the back, if they are as dull as you made them out to be then they surely won’t notice us!” As they poked their heads out the back door, they spot Applejack and Applebloom. Spike then looks at Rarity and say’s “I’m going to go get her and bring her back here, watch Sweetie Bell and barricade the front door and windows.” Without waiting for a response he ran as fast as his stubby little legs could carry him to Applejack and Applebloom. “Spike, where is Twilight?!”
He quickly replies “She went to go get Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie.” Applebloom stuttered “U-uuhm Applejack, those things... they are closing in on us!” A small group of Infected crowded around them and blocked their way to the back entrance of the Boutique. Rarity calls out to Applejack and Spike go get help and get back here fast.
Spike called back “Sit tight and don't move.”
Rarity yelled back “Yes Spike, we are going to go out there and try to get eaten.
Think for once.” As the three ran off to get some help, they ran into Roid Rage
Spike said with tears in his eyes “please help us please!”
Roid Rage yelled “YAAAAAA!”
“So you will help us?” Spike asked confidently. Roid Rage then lowered his muscular and veiny neck to be face to face with Spike. He then yelled out once more “YAAAAA!” They then travelled back to the Boutique, occasionally stopping for a moment so Roid Rage can dispatch any infected roadblocks that pose a threat to anypony. Finally the group made it back to the Boutique. With much ease so Roid Rage can takes care of the crowd of infected that are trying to barge into the front door of the Boutique. But when they got in the door no pony was around but a note that read.
“Sorry could not stay went to find Twilight and the others.”
As Spike read the note he wondered where his friends were he then turned to the door and sprinted outside after about an hour he found Pinkie pie but something was wrong she was not the hyperactive pony everyone knew and loved, she was dole looking and covered in blood but it wasn't fresh.
“Pinkie is that you?” Spike said cautiously.
“Ya its me” she said with sadness in her voice.
“What's wrong Pinkie?” Spike said curiously
“Well i was at Sugarcube Corners when Mr. and miss. cake walked in but not as lively. Anyway they walked around in a circle like they weren't quite sure what they were looking for. They were running into stuff and they were bleeding from their mouth then the worst part they tried to attack me! so i h-had to...”
“you had to what” Spike said curiously.
“I-I had to k-kill. No its too painful to remember i won't remember it!” She said shaking her head side to side.
“Its ok pinkie you don't have to tell me. Oh shit you weren't bitten were you?”
“No i don't think so.” as she look all over her body
“Oh think celestia!”
“why what will happen if i did?”
“you will turn into one of them,and you don't want to be a zombie pony do you?”
“No! um hey Spike lets go find the others.”
“Ya good idea i don't like it out here with out any pony.”
As they walked along the road Spike remembered the giant white pony that he thought was right behind him but when he turned around there was no pony no one not even the undead.
“SPIKE!” A really familiar voice called. .
When he looked up he saw Rainbow Dash flying by he shouted with all his might “RAINBOW!”
She barely heard the sound of her own name when she looked down she saw lots of the undead walking toward Spike and Pinkie.
“What do we do Pinkie?” Spike said trying to sound brave.
“Run toward the library everypony else is there” Rainbow shouted as she flew away in a flash.
As Spike jumped on to Pinkie’s back she trotted faster and faster dodging the undead in their way as they quickly made their way into the safe library. When Pinkie caught her breath she looked at all of her friends and gave them a quick hug.
“So what do we do now?” Applejack calmly said forgetting what had happened outside.
“Well I don't know I guess we can send the princes a message saying that we're ready... Spike you know what to do”
“right” As he started to write the message down and sent it. Not a moment later Spike received the princesses message telling every pony to stay put till she got there. About an hour later all six of them were on there way back to canterlot but no pony knew that it was worse in the big city’s.
“Is anypony hurt?” Celestia said worried about her loyal subjects.
“I don't think so” every pony said in unison.
“Ya but i think i shit out some rubies back there.” Spike chuckled a bit.
“Spike watch your mouth!” twilight said before hitting him in the back of the head.
“I'm sorry.” Spike said while rubbing his head.
Fluttershy stood up and said “Look everypony the castle.”
As the carriage came to a complete stop they got out and started to look around but the area had a smell of death thats when every pony looked toward the courtyard.
The guards had ponies lined up that looked fine but that had been bitten. With a single swipe of the blade that was in one of the guards mouth severed the head one of the turning ponies. The blood of the other ponies field the streets and the public executions and the screams of horror when the blade split their jugular into two which made tears in the eyes of the families that were losing their loved ones.
When every pony made it into the castle Rainbow broke the silence
“What do we do know? We can't leave or we will get eaten.”
“Shes right.” Pinkie said while looking out the window into the courtyard
Princess Celestia thought for a moment and spoke
“I think it will be safe enough to send a message to other cities asking for help.”
“But how? If anypony leaves they'll get hurt even worse become one of them.” Applejack said thinking about how the pony going to send the letter would get around all the infected.
“Thats why i'll send her by portal.” Twilight spoke up quickly. then stepped to the side to reveal a green Earth pony.
“I’ll send her by a portal to every major city in Equestria.”
Celestia stepped forward and said “Sounds like we got a plan in action.”
When the doors to the throne room flung open and the undead were making their way up to meet the guards.
“Twilight make the portal now!” Celestia yelled
As her horn began to glow, a blue and black portal began to form.
“GO!” Twilight yelled to the green Earth.
The green pony also know as Lemon Drop galloped toward the floating portal. As she jumped she got shot in the chest by a crossbow and landing in the wormhole.
As she flew through and landing on the other side of the portal. In a room with creatures she has never seen befor.
The five humans look and the dying green pony they could not believe their eyes their dream was coming true Equestria is real.
Lemon Drop said with her dying breath “H-Help us.” As she passed away in Ben’s arms.
