Intro

War. War never changes.

The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. Hitler shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower.

Nightmare Moon brought the eternal night to Equestria. Discord caused mischief and chaos wherever he went. Chrysalis kidnapped ponies to feed her hive. King Sombra enslaved the Crystal ponies.

But war never changes. War is the same in every world, no matter how pacific or violent. Human or pony, good or bad, war is the same for everyone.

In the 21st century, war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: petroleum and uranium. For these resources, China would invade Alaska, the US would annex Canada, and the European Commonwealth would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.

While most of humanity was fighting for power, money and control, a small group plotted a way to escape from the war and laid their eyes on a new world; a world without fights, war or weapons. A world where they could start again, far away from the fires of war. But war never stops nor does she sleep, always waiting for the perfect chance to strike again. At first humans and ponies had trouble living together, and even though they managed to have a peaceful coexistence, but it proved to be a matter of time before Equestria would be burned.

Equestria was nearly wiped clean of life. A great cleansing, an spark struck by hate from both sides quickly raged out of control. Spears of fire rained from the skies. Cities were swallowed in flames and fell beneath the boiling oceans. Both races were almost extinguished, their spirits becoming part of the background radiation that blanketed the earth. Foreseeing this, special bunkers called Stable Vaults were built all over Equestria to ensure that both species would be spared from the cleansing fire and reemerge when everything calmed down.

I was born in the ashes of the Wasteland, but by caprice of the destiny I was allowed to stay in the Stable Vault 9, where ponies and humans still co-existed peacefully. Imprisoned safely behind the large Vault door under a mountain of stone, countless generations have lived without knowledge of the outside world aside of my stories and experiences. My only friend in the underground prison was a unicorn with an insatiable thirst of knowledge from the world from beyond the walls. Years later, we emerged into a world of pain, hate and despair with everything ready to kill us the moment we let our guards down. It is here where I was born, and it is here where we will die.

War never changes. But friendship does.
