Chapter 11
Meanwhile, in the kitchens:
“Come on, Pinkie! We don’t have time for this!” Twilight screamed. She was getting very impatient; the biped could have escaped by now.
“Nu-uh! You gotta find me first!” Pinkie replied cheerily from her hiding place.
“Oh do come on darling, we don’t have time for your childish antics.” Rarity called sternly into the darkness. “Besides, this place is a rather dreadful place for one such as me to be in. The mucky floor will ruin my hooves!”
“Come on guys! I’m not movin’ till you find me!” Pinkie called out in a sort of sing-song voice.
“Hold on girls, keep her talking. I think I can find her by picking up the sound-waves produced by her voice.” The other two mares stared at her confused for a second or two. “Ugh... I can track her with magic.” They both nodded in satisfaction.
As Twilight’s horn glowed, the two mares began to ask questions regarding Pinkie’s hiding spot. Questions such as ‘Is it dark?’ and ‘Is it cramped?’ to which the answer was usually ‘Sorry but that’s too big of a clue!’ In their struggle to find Pinkie, even with the help of Twilight’s magic which seemed to glow brighter as they got closer, they didn’t realise that they had wandered very deep into the storage area which connected to the kitchen. Eventually, they came to an area which was likely used to wash dishes while also out of the way of the cooks. It was in the centre of the storage area and had several taps and basins of water with cupboards surrounding them left and right, up and down. There were several more boxes which contained once clean cutlery and china.
“Pinkie! Where are you? We are going to be late to um... to that monkey’s party.”
“What party?!?” Pinkie suddenly burst out of the plughole of a sink behind them. Realising she had been tricked, she pouted. “Oh phooey, I’ve been found. Oh well! Let’s go find ourselves a monster!” Her mood suddenly brightened up and she slid back down the plughole out of the cupboard underneath. Knowing better than to question Pinkie’s strange ways of defying physics, they continued on.
“Now then, let’s find Applejack and Rainbow and get this strange creature.” Now confident that the task could finally be carried out, the four mares jogged along to their destination. Much to their horror, they heard the machine that opened the gate power up. Their jog had become a gallop and they tried to catch up to the monster before it escaped. They were stopped as a large web of flesh appeared in their way as a loud, unnatural roar resounded throughout the castle. Very much irritated by the sudden appearance of an obstacle, Twilight tried to tear the flesh out of the way with her magic. She could feel the flesh finally giving way before she was struck by an invisible force. She recoiled at the unseen strike and looked around frantically, worrying the three mares behind her.
“What happened dear?”
“I don’t know, but I felt something very powerful nearby and it’s coming after us.” Fluttershy cowered behind Pinkie after hearing this. “We have to find another way around this. Come on, let’s...” She paused as she saw two very large figures looming over her friends and a loud screeching sound filled her ears. The three mares turned as a pair of clawed hands came down to knock them out. Suddenly filled with fear, Twilight reacted on instinct and dodged out of the way of the two grotesque monster’s strikes and ran into the darkness. She dared not look back, but she had just abandoned her friends. There was nothing she could do for them now, all she could hope is that they only meant to capture them for something bigger rather than eat them themselves.
As she ran the screeching continued and the corridors around her became a blur, so much she didn’t realise she had passed the door out of the kitchens. Instead she came across a dead end at the end of the corridor. She turned to see one of the two monsters running at her with its claw raised above its head. Just as it swiped at her, she jumped to her left leaving the monster to charge head first into the wall. Sweat was beginning to form on her and her breathing pattern was jumping from heavy to rapid every five seconds. As she ran besides work stations for cooks filled with knives, spoons, pots and pans, she saw the figure of the other monster walking towards the exit with three unconscious (or dead) mares dragging behind it all tied together in a rope. Noticing that the screeching had stopped, she sat down behind a work surface to give herself time to catch her breath. The other silhouette was wandering about behind her, rather confused regarding her location. Slowly, she shifted from behind the work surface to besides it, so as to cut line of sight from the first monster and the second.
A door opened and the second monster dragged her three friends behind it up to the stairwell. It was so close. Eventually, she peeked behind her hiding spot to see the monster on the other side of the room. Seizing the opportunity, she slowly crept towards the door and gently pulled it open. She let out a much exaggerated sigh as she successfully jumped behind the door without being attacked from the other side.
When she regained from her moment of relief, she only had to look at the stairwell to be horrified. In every corner, crack and cranny there was fleshy web. The whole room had been consumed by the fleshy web. Twilight was even further horrified when she saw that the web appeared to be breathing, like it consisted of thousands of living beings all morphed gorily together, all still living. While she would have loved to have puked right there, she needed to save her friends. She ran to the open gate and dodged a rather wide hole in her path, paying no attention to the biped that lay on a ledge not 20 yards down. She ran round the corner, fully aware of the web that was following her and screaming orders to its minions.
She reached for the big double doors that led from the patriotic hallway into the Throne Room. When she emerged, she caught sight of yet another biped standing next to the Throne with an orb in a stone holder next to him. This biped was wearing bright red clothes and his skin was turning grey from hundreds of years. She turned to see her friends floating in a magical force field... and a clawed hand that knocked her to the ground not seconds later.
