Okay, so this is my first story. Lucid Sky hears of a career opportunity. The only problem? It's far away from her Manehattan home. Her parents are less than thrilled to see their little bird move out of the nest, and no matter what she tells herself–Lucid is scared too. Slowly coming to the realization of what has to be done, she's determined to fly across Equestria for this job. Disaster strikes when she's lied to and must settle down before returning home.

"I can't believe I didn't get that job!! That stallion didn't know what he was doing! And oh, was he pompous." Lucid Sky seethed as she flew home from yet another failed job interview. What was it about her that made her less than the rest? Was it because she didn't have experience? Probably, she just didn't want to admit it. A cloud passed her left side, and she had a brilliant idea. Circling back round, she bucked the cloud as hard as she could. A satisfying poof! rang out in the air as the cloud disintegrated beneath her hoof. She repeated this process all the way home.

When Lucid finally arrived home, her parents were eagerly waiting at the door. Their grins were so hopeful, like the grins of fillies. She sighed, and shook her head. "I-I didn't get the job, guys. A stallion from Fillydelphia snagged it from me." As expected, her family's grins faded away. Her father returned to his copy of the paper without a word, while her mother smiled sadly. "Oh, dear. It's alright, y-you'll find another job to fill!" Of course her mother was this chipper about things, she had to be both parents to Lucid. Her father was never there, it was always Lucid and her mother. She shrugged off her mothers words and made her way to her room upstairs. "Mom, I don't wanna' talk about it. I really don't wanna' talk about it." Her mother came after her, but was stopped by her daughters glare. "I love you, mom, but right now I really need some alone time to sort things through." Slowly but surely, she backed away as her daughter made her way back into her room. She flung herself onto the bed and buried herself into her pillow. Her family was so successful, and here she was not able to get a job. She looked out the window. Oh, the stars looked so tempting--they were beautifully sparkling. Her vision suddenly blurred, eyes stinging. The feelings of the day suddenly started to flow out of her. The walls in her home were thin, she didn't want her parents to hear her cry. She gently trod towards the window, and opened it. The cold night air nipped, but to her burning eyes it was pure perfection. She readied her wings, and lept out; taking flight. It was only a matter of minutes before she zoned out. The allure of flying without care or destination was euphoric. Suddenly, she was blinded. Something had hit her face, and she couldn't land at the moment. Panicking, she ripped the object away from her face, and rubbed at her eyes. To her shock, it was a flyer. Author/Artist needed in Cloudsdale! Cloudsdale? How had this little scrap of paper gotten all the way over here? A buzzing sensation ran through her, and ended at her cutiemark. Her cutiemark! She looked back at it, and the azure plume was glistening brighter than it ever had. She knew what she had to do.
