//-------------------------------------------------------// Flint Scratch -by TPB- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// The Beginning //-------------------------------------------------------// The Beginning Flint Scratch picked up his rough sack bag of any supplies he had left. He began walking through the empty valley. Wind, whistling in his ear. The warm sun was the only heat he had in this cold winter. He began to wonder if he should give up this scavenger lifestyle, as many people told him it’s a ridiculous idea. Even his sister said so... Over in Ponyville... Vinyl Scratch was sitting in a chair back hoofs up on the table, she leaned back a bit in the cair. She almost dropped the pizza she was devouring at the sudden thrust back. She luckily caught herself, she looked to Octavia who was dusting of all the records on the counter, who quickly looked back to what she was doing before letting Vinyl hear her quick snicker. “Whats so funny Tavi?” Vinyl said letting her glasses slip down a bit from her eyes. “Nothing.” Said Octavia holding her breath to keep from laughing. “Ya’know if that pizza fell...” Vinyl said looking at the slice. “The floor would be really dirty and sticky..” She held the pizza out above the floor. “Vinyl...don't you dare.” Octavia said eyeing the pizza like it was a bomb. “Whos best pony?” Vinyl said with a ridiculous smile. “Hmph, you know i don't like picking favourites.” Octavia said not taking her eyes off the pizza. “Who?” Vinyl said letting the pizza almost slip. “YOU!” Octavia said hurriedly. “Ahaha!” Vinyl laughed. “Tavi your such a neat freak!” “Here catch!” Vinyl said throwing the pizza towards Octavia as if it was a frisbee. “AH!” Octavia yelped before she caught the pizza. “Eww, really Vinyl?” She said throwing the pizza away and trying to wipe the sticky off her delicate grey hoofs. “Oh, c’mon, just a little fun.” Vinyl said still laugh hysterically. “No it’s disgusting.” Octavia replied. “Whatever, I’m going to my room.” Vinyl said head down, she opened the door that lead to her room, her safe zone. In a way it’s her quiet zone except it’s not that at all... Octavia went to the sink turned on the warm water, she grabbed a rag and started wiping the sauce and little sticky bits still left on her hoof. She let out a little breath... Flint sat in the middle of nowhere head in hands, shedding a few tears at the memory of his sister. It was a hard thing to think about, they hadn't seen each other in years. Not because of a tragedy that separated the two, they just wanted different lifestyles. Flint wanted to see the world like he thought it was meant to be seen. Vinyl wanted to live a life parties, friends, music. A life with no seclusion, and scavenging like Flint, there was only seclusion. Flint picked up his bag once more. “Time to get moving.” He said with a sniffle. Flint would usually stop in towns he passed by occasionally to refill hi supplies. That also took time, he would have to make money to buy these things. He would go around doing odd jobs for all the town ponies. Which was hard, being the new pony in town sometimes mad others skeptical. Being a pyro didn't help much either. Not a pyromaniac, just a pyro he was good with fire he could use it at his will. He was even immune to fire. Sometimes people need him for help that normal ponies could not do. Then sometimes it scared people away, he could somewhat understand their fears. A pony who can control fire and they knew almost nothing of his personality. Vinyl lay there on her bed eyes closed, headphones in, world shutout. She could hear nothing but the music, to make sure of this she tried talking, she couldn't hear herself. Thats how she liked it, to her that is bliss. Song after song Vinyl sat there not thinking or doing anything because, for one, what was there to do? Two, she loved doing this. As almost every pony in town knew Vinyl loved music. The reason is nothing can bother here, she is in complete control. If she doesn't like what comes up theres a next button. If she wants to hear something again theres a replay button. To her its her own world. Octavia barged in the room, she was talking but Vinyl couldn't hear her, all she saw was Octavia mouthing words. Vinyl unhappily paused her music. “Yes?” She asked. “I was wondering if you wanted to go eat?” Octavia said. “Sure.” Vinyl said smiling. She took out her headphones and got off the bed. “You’re buying.” Vinyl said looking at Octavia smiling, and walking out of the room. “As always...” Octavia smiled. “So, where are we going to?” Vinyl asked opening the door. Flint saw a town in the distance, he checked his bag and saw he was running low on food. “Here we go.” He said with a sad exhale. He walked getting closer and closer, it wasn't that far off now. He kept wondering if he should stop, would this be another town that fears and hates him just by what they think he does? Would it even be worth a waste of days? He reluctantly kept walking. He reached a road leading to the center of town. The place looked normal enough, a lot more ponies than he thought it would have. That could be a good thing though, more jobs, more money, more food. He walked towards what seemed to be a market. He had not been given any weird or threatening looks, yet. “Maybe this won't be so bad after all...” He said putting up a weary smile. Octavia and Vinyl reached the market. “When you said gety something to eat i thought you meant like a restaurant or...” Vinyl said. “I thought i would cook something and have just a quiet day today, no?” Octavia said looking to Vinyl then back to the potatoes. “Fine with me.” Vinyl said “Anything you want me to grab?” “Yes get some tomatoes please.” Octavia replied still looking for a potato that she liked. Vinyl nodded her head and walked to the other side of the market. Flint walked to a shop owner in the market. “Hi, I was wondering if you needed help with anything?” Flint explained his situation to the mare. Him being from out of town and needing money to move along. “Well i suppose you could help me harvest my tomatoes tomorrow.” The mare said. “Meet me here at twelve o'clock tomorrow morning?” The mare asked. “Yes ma’am.” Flint smiled. “Thank you.” Flint turned around and bumped in to somepony. “Oh, very sorry I.....”
