I groaned then faced away from the direction of the sound
"NAVE!"
I slowly slumped up from my slumber and tried to let the light go into my eyes. That didn't work to well, the suns rays were to much for my eyes that had just been opened. I quickly hissed at the light and faced away. My mentors face quickly came into to view, he was like the father I never had or a mother for a matter of fact. "Well good to see your in a nice mood today," he said this in a sarcastic like tone. "Haha," I said in an equally sarcastic, yet mocking tone. "You know this is an important day" I gave him a confused look. He returned my look with one that told me 'Did you seriously forget?' "Its your birthday today!," he shouted this at the top of his lungs and I was quite surprised, so much that I had moved back a bit and fell off my bed. He laughed a bit then helped me to my feet. "Get your clothes on boy we're going somewhere."
"where?"
"Didn't I tell you? Somewhere!"
"Oh haha"
" yes that was quite humorous wasn't it?"
I groaned as I started to put on my normal clothes. I already knew this was going to be a long day packed with my mentors stupid humor and some surprising new things.
A little while later
I had gotten up, ate some leftover bread from yesterday note to self get some more bread,
and had started for the door. My mentor then came around the corner carrying a long, thin box.
"wait just a second Nave," he then waved me over to the table i just ate on. It wasn't just a normal box, actually it wasn't a box at all just a long rod of some sort wrapped in what appeared to be cloth. "As you know i'm a friend of the Dwarves that live in the lonely mountain, correct?"
"yes, but what does th-"
He cut me off and then spoke "Good, then you will understand how i obtained these," he said this while gesturing to the wrapped rod that was now glowing brightly. "I want you to have this," he handed me the cloth bag with a big smile on his face. I gave him a slightly worried, yet happy look when i took the bag. I had never seen him so happy before this was quite a surprise in it self! I looked at the bag, then at him, then back at the bag. I untied the ends of the bag then started to work my way through the cloth and then saw a spear tip. No wait, two spear tips! i quickly opened the bag and saw it. Two wonderfully crafted weapons of war. One a spear made of a bright shiny metal, and a javelin (basically the same thing just lighter so you can throw it) made of the same shiny material. I then proceeded to ask him,"what is the material used for these?"
He gestured for me to come closer to him, "Mithril." He said this silently so no one could hear him.
I then looked at him with big beady eyes and yelled "MITHRIL?!" He put his hand over my mouth quickly and put his finger over his mouth to signal for me to shut it. I then processed what I had done knowing I probably wasn't supposed to do that. Mithril was a great and powerful substance used for making only the finest of armor, never had it been made into a weapon. It could be beaten like copper, and polished like glass;and the Dwarves could make of it a metal, light and yet harder than tempered steel. Its beauty was like to that of common silver, but the beauty of mithril did not tarnish or grow dim.
"well now that that's done lets go and explore the town shall we?" I started to move but was stopped when my mentor spoke. "Oh but before we go, I would hide those weapons of yours. nothing is more valuable than mithril," I took the hint and then quickly hid them strategically inside of another room and set it down. Only you run into a unforeseen problem, they glowed. I then had to put them under the covers of my bed. I placed them there only to see it still glowed under the sheets. I then placed 3 more sheets over them before it wasn't noticeable anymore. Well besides the four sheets of cloth and blanket it wasn't noticeable. I then ran to the door to see my mentor waiting at the door leading out of the house.
City of Dale
We walked outside to see the entire town already hard at work even if it was only 7:00, by my calculations. We could see the entire town and also the great Dwarven kingdom inside the mountain, for the doors that lead to the great city was massive in size.
We went to a couple of markets for food and such items Got my breadand then started for home. We had started to walk up onto the door step of our house when we heard the most death deifying screech. We quickly threw the food inside the house and went to see where the horrible scream was coming from. We looked across the city and didn't see anything, this is when we then looked up into the sky only to see a horrid sight. a dragon. and not just any old dragon, a giant fire drake. We saw him and only to our avail see him make a B-line for our town. Our town wasn't big but was still large enough to attract attention to the great dragon. The archers started to release arrows from their bows and the horn callers blew heavily on the great horns of wood signaling to be prepared for the onslaught that was soon to come.
The dragon got within range and breathed fire everywhere leaving a giant line through the city. My mentor was a renowned warrior in our town and was soon dashing to one of the guard outposts. I heard him yell "get outside the town quickly, but don't be noticed by the dragon!" I looked over to see the plains everywhere, no hiding places anywhere. thanks for the advice i thought sarcastically in my brain. I ran inside and quickly found my spear and javelin. They were know glowing so bright that i could barely look at them. I grabbed my old leather holster for the two weapons, sheathed them, then grabbed my old shield. The shield too was made out of mithril making it entirely weightless basically, I then started for the door only to then almost get burned by the dragons fire. He had scorched up the entire house and it was quickly engulfing the entire place, I couldn't go out the back because we didn't have one. My mentor thought it would be a brilliant idea to live in a house near the stone wall of the city so in case someone broke in the only option of escape was the door. (the windows were too small for someone to fit in)
I wasn't frightened, but now I knew there was no way of escape. My mentor always told me you should die honorably, well I don't know about the honorable part but I knew I was going to die. I then pleaded for someone to help me, the fact I knew I was going to die quickly frightened me. I pleaded for aid but no one came I then went to the corner of my room waiting for the end.
After about three minutes of watching the flames engulf my home I knew no one could possibly help me. I saw the flames get closer and closer spreading around the walls of my room. The flames heat was scorching my face as I waited for my end. I saw the flames spread around me, closer, and closer, and closer, I closed my eyes waiting for death. I heard a big sound then felt as though I was falling.
I didn't feel the heat, nor did I hear the sounds of anything. I opened my eyes to see I was laying down on the ground of a forest. I had no idea what had happened, at first i though there was some kind of explosion that saved me and that I landed in the plains that watched over Dale. I knew one thing when I got up I was alive and that was all that mattered. I then heard a rustle in a nearby bush I saw the silhouette of the figure I couldn't make out what it was. I then instantly felt hungry, hungry for meat. I got my javelin ready to hurl. I positioned myself into a throwing stance and then launched my javelin toward the target. The figure heard the whistle of my javelin and looked up. I saw the figure had a horn of some sort thinking it was a deer.
This deer was different though it wasn't a deer at all in fact. It was a unicorn it used its magic to stop my hurling thorn in mid-air. It then looked at me and I saw the figures eyes glisten in the sunlight. It gave me a frightened stare and then quickly ran off into another direction. I went to pick up my javelin then went and sat at a nearby tree base. I sat there for a couple minutes before I saw the figure again. I then tried my luck for a second time thinking I could catch it off guard this time. Well this time I saw five other pairs of eyes some with and without horns. They then came running towards me at a quick speed I saw the fastest one, a cyan colored pegasus, flying towards me and man they didn't look happy to see me. I got my spear and shield out and held my ground waiting the oncoming assault of the multicolored ponies.
