Chapter Two
Twilight screamed… and screamed… and screamed…
That was what Spike could see his friend doing from within the sound-proof bubble she had constructed around her head.
Needless to say, the dragon was also quite surprised at the lung capacity the lavender unicorn possessed.
Finally, after thirty seconds of non-stop screaming, the bubble finally dissipated and Twilight began regaining her breath.
After a couple of seconds, Spike finally asked, “Are you done?”
“The screaming… in absolute… frustration… yes.” Twilight responded as she panted.
When she stopped gasping for air, her head then sank as she then fell onto her haunches.
Spike could clearly see that his older sister-figure was upset over whatever had happened at the café. Slowly, he placed a supporting claw on her shoulder and told her. “Twilight, I’m sure that whatever happened there will work out just fine.”
Twilight gave Spike a sad smile. “Spike, I appreciate your support. I really do. But I’m afraid it’s not going to be that simple. I’ve dug myself into quite a pit I’m afraid.”
The unicorn then went into detail over her and Rarity’s conversation at the café. The reminiscing of the Changeling attack on Canterlot a year ago, Rarity’s desire to find a Special Somepony, and the dress maker asking for the student’s assistance in finding said Special Somepony.
“I wanted to at that very moment tell Rarity that ever since after the Grand Galloping Gala that I’ve been developing these feelings about her that to this day still don’t fully understand,” Twilight spoke, “It was the perfect moment too. Just the two of us, together, perfect weather to later thank Rainbow Dash and the Weather Team for, and…”
Twilight paused.
“…And I just don’t know what happened! I completely lost all track of thought when that moment came. I… I don’t…”
Twilight found herself unable to finish her sentence as she again looked down to the floor. Spike saw that and gave her a caring hug.
The dragon calmly spoke to her, “Twilight, just calm down. Sure things may seem bad, but we’ve been through worse right?”
Twilight then realized something very important she didn’t consider before all of this.
“Oh Spike, I’m so sorry!”
Spike was now confused, “Uh… for what?”
“I forgot about… well… what happened between you and Rarity eight months ago!”
Spike was quick to calm Twilight’s nerves; “It’s alright Twilight. I’m over it. Really I am.”
Indeed. Eight months before the two of them were sitting with each other in the present, Spike finally found the nerve to tell his now former crush just how he felt about her since he first laid eyes on her when he and Twilight first came to Ponyville. With support from Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy, the Cutie Mark Crusaders, and with Pinkie Pie preparing for a ‘Spike and Rarity Are Now Together Forever’ party, the purple scaled dragon felt (as some of the fillies and colts like to say) pumped. With his friends behind him, he marched right up to Carousal Boutique, knocked on the door, looked at the white unicorn right in the eyes, and finally confessed his crush.
Sadly, after a stunned silence from the fashionista, the response the dragon received was “I’m so sorry Spikey-Wikey, I love you, but not the way you do to me.”
At that moment, the positive energy that was beaming from the dragon as well as the support from his other friends all vanished in an instant. Before Rarity could tell Spike to come inside and explain things to him, he ran right for home with tears in his eyes.
As for the others, needless to say, there were some very mixed reactions. Twilight, the Crusaders, and Pinkie Pie immediately followed Spike home to give him all the support she could offer. Rainbow Dash verbally slammed Rarity for breaking Spike’s heart. Applejack managed to get the speedster to back off, but criticized Rarity for not talking to Spike privately instead of letting him down in front of the others thus sparing him from the embarrassment. Fluttershy however injected that while she agreed with Applejack, she also reminded the farmer and Rainbow Dash that Rarity had offered to talk to Spike to talk things over and that perhaps they should go over to the library to do just that.
They all agreed with the yellow-coated pegasus, and made their way to the library. Upon arriving, they found Pinkie Pie keeping the Cutie Mark Crusaders entertained with her usual antics; Apple Bloom told the others that Twilight was talking to Spike upstairs. Rarity slowly made her way to the bedroom of the library where she saw Twilight calming the distraught dragon down. As soon as Rarity’s presence was known, Twilight reluctantly left the two alone in the bedroom.
It was almost an hour later that the two reemerged from the bedroom. To everypony’s relief, they were both smiling. Slightly sad, but mostly more upbeat than earlier. Spike and Rarity told the others that they’ve spent a lot of their time talking about what happened, Rarity apologizing for letting Spike down in front of the others, Spike telling them that despite what happened they’ve both agreed to always remain friends. Heck, if what happened during the Dragon Migration incident wasn’t enough, they were still all one big happy family after all.
After sharing one big group hug, something Scootaloo initially tried desperately to avoid as to maintain her tomboyish attitude (but soon relented when she remembered that she was in the company of her multi-color haired idol/older sister figure), the group of ten retreated over to Sugar Cube Corner to have Pinkie Pie’s party; appropriately renamed to the ‘Spike and Rarity Will Always Be Friends’ party.
Jump back to the present, with Twilight and Spike sitting down remembering those events from eight months ago.
Twilight asked, “Are you absolutely certain? Because I don’t want to-”
“Twilight Sparkle,” Spike interrupted, “If I’m willing to help you find true happiness with the unicorn that I once had a crush on, then I’m PRETTY SURE that I’m over it.”
Twilight for her part couldn’t resist a small chuckle, “You make a very good point.”
Spike then asked, “So, what are you going to do about Rarity and her request?”
The lavender unicorn pondered that predicament for a moment, then answered; “Seeing that I’ve already said ‘yes’ to helping Rarity, I think I’m going to go through with helping her find her Special Somepony.”
“What?!” Spike exclaimed, “But Twilight, you can’t do that! You want to be with her!”
Twilight in response explained her decision, “I know. But I’m figuring that by playing along, then perhaps Rarity will eventually realize the reason I’m helping her is to help her find that I’m the Special Somepony she’s looking for. Does that make sense to you?”
Spike was silent for a moment, and then shrugged his shoulders as he responded, “Uh… I guess I do.” He then gave her an encouraging smile, “But I’m more than willing to help out.”
Twilight patted Spike’s head. “As I always knew you would my Number One Assistant. Now, would you please get a pot of tea brewing? I’m going to need it very soon.”
“Right away Twilight!” Spike said enthusiastically as he went over to the kitchen.
Twilight meanwhile decided to finish reading the chapter of the tome she was reading before Rarity first arrived, and then get into the planning phases of helping Rarity find a Special Somepony. She trotted over to her desk and opened the tome, titled Constellations and Philosophy by Clover the Clever. It was quite an interesting piece of writing written by Princess Platinum’s assistant. The piece of writing mainly taught how symbolic the star formations in the night sky could be interpreted into how ponies live their lives.
She has such elegance, such grace in her stride.
Where in the wide world of Equestria did that come from? Twilight thought to herself.
Oh I think you know the answer to that one Twilight Sparkle.
I do?
Absolutely. I’m the other half of your conscience. I’m just here to remind you of that one unicorn you can’t seem to take your mind off of.
But I’ve already got a good plan in motion. Everything will work itself out.
Then I’ve got nothing to lose!
What are you-?
Rarity is a pony whose imagination has no limits. Why, if given enough time, she could come up with dress designs for everypony in Ponyville. She truly is the Element of Generosity.
Well, as true as that is, I must insist that you let me finish this tome first, and then I can focus on-
Just how her coat glows when Princess Celestia makes the sun set?
No! I mean- yes her coat is really something when that happens. But I was going to say getting ready to-
Meditate on just how gorgeous those blue eyes of hers are?
Will you please stop interrupting me?! I meant getting ready to scout Ponyville for all the single stallions and mares so they could be potential dates for Rarity.
Oh… so you’re just going to assume that Rarity swings both ways?
Oh. Uh… well, you never know! She said she wanted a SPECIAL SOMEPONY. She never did specify on just what gender she was interested in!
Okay then, have it your way. I’ll just leave you to your work.
Why thank you.
Before I go though, don’t ever forget about that amazing…
Oh no.
…fabulous…
Don’t you DARE finish that sentence!
…mind blowing…
IF YOU FINISH WHAT YOU’RE TRYING TO SAY I WILL END YOU!
Jeez, alright already! I was going to say that apple fritter in the fridge that you’ve been saving!
Oh. Sorry about that.
Don’t sweat it.
…
…
…
She’s got a REALLY nice flank too.
“STUPID SEXY RARITY!” Twilight yelled out loud.
