"It has been five years since I left Cloudsdale and even longer since i helped save Scootaloo from the Rainbow Factory yet…" the teal colored stallion with blue and white blue mane paused and looked over at orange filly who had been been sleeping on his bed. she was on of the few survivors of the Rainbow factory.
It was Nagi who had saved the young mare from the pegasus the she had long looked up to. He muttered the names of the workers as he looked at the book he received from Twilights library. The last name he muttered sent a chill down his back. "Rainbow Dash" he muttered once more as the name left a bitter taste in his mouth.
"Yet I find myself working in that horrible place in Rainbow Dash stead" he slowly stood and closed his book and went to cover Scootaloo as he put on a white lab coat. He packed his bag and made lunch for the young mare who would later wake up to go to school.
"I am Naginata a loving father and proud parent". He kissed Scootaloo and left out, taking to the skies, "but by night i am a new person."
"By night i am reborn as a deranged swordsman who i have decided to name Nagi." He looked at his cutie mark which were an array of weapons crossed in a star. Naginata flew over the sleeping town of Ponyville as he held his head, clenching his teeth. It was beginning.
Nagi had awakened and taken over in place of his brighter side as he landed in Cloudsdale. He had arrived at the weather station making his way to the upper level of the rainbow factory to work the night shift.
As he walked through the corridors he was greeted and looked at as he gave nods of acknowledgement. "i hate this place it reeks of failure and blood Naginata" he muttered as he talked to his other half who went dormant in his head.
"Ey Nagi" rang a voice through the corridors. He spun around to see his long time friend Shadow Flare trot up to him as he took off his hood.
The two stallions bumped hooves and laughed as he headed to see the next few victims that would be added to the mix of pure Spectra. Shadow Flare was his right hand man and did most of the machine operating.
They looked at the failures to Cloudsdales elite fliers with disgust as he began to have the guards round up the 'waste'. "lets make this quick and swift i have other things to do and i do not have time for this" he barked, growling fiercely.
The guard shuddered at the command and began the extraction process which Shadow Flare was in charge of. "Now for the fun part" he muttered as the machine took each pegasi and added them to the mix of color.
Day had broke as Celestia began her daily task of raising the sun. Naginata had regained control and Nagi went dormant till night fall once more. the red stallion with the black and red mane flew up to him as the work shift had ended.
"I hate this life i don't enjoy what we do" Shadow Flare began to lament as Naginata looked at him sorrowfully.
"i don't enjoy this anymore than you but we have a few more day till we can either leave or keep working". They began to descend towards Ponyville as they landed in front of Sugarcube Corner. They wearily trotted into the bakery as the sound of Ponyville's party pony rang through the shop.
Pinkie Pie was running around setting up the bakery for what seemed like a party as she stopped and bounced over to the stallions smiling. "hey you guys i see you just got off of work.
they looked at each other with shocked expressions "how did you know. no one is supposed to know" they cried in horror looking at her.
she laughed and began mixing ingredients for cupcakes " oh sillies your still wearing your work clothes" not only was pinkie now in charge of running the bakery but soon to be wife of Naginata "oh Nagi can you pick up Scootaloo i have lots more tasty treat to make for tonights fun -a -rific party."
The stallions took their work clothes off and hid them in their saddle bags "alright I will get to that now" he raced out the store dragging Shadow Flare behind him
"awwww why do i have to go with you i want to eat first" Shadow stammered taking to the skies with his partner
Naginata laughed happily as they landed in front of the school " look its been a while since Scoots saw you and last time you two met was after the Rainbow Factory incident.
Shadow flare shook his head "to think Rainbow Dash has forgotten about the whole ordeal. i mean i know she had her memory of the factory cleared but still…"
Naginata cringed at the name as he looked up at the cyan pegasus clearing the sky working to beat the 10 seconds flat record "but at least she is happy and free. Soon we will be too"
Shadow flare looked at the mares and colts leaving the school as Scootaloo came out with her long time friends who helped form the Cutie Mark Crusaders which had now doubled in size "will we really be free?" he lowered his head and headed back to Sugarcube Corner.
Scootaloo waved a quick goodbye to her friends for she knew she would see them later and hovered over to her father figure.
"Hey whats up how was work at the.." she paused and sighed" factory today" she smiled and nuzzled Naginata as she landed on the ground.
"I will be leaving that place soon enough and Nagi will be dormant for a good while since we reached an agreement" he cheerfully said.
they began to walk away from the school as Scootaloo looked at him wearily "and what might that agreement be."
the teal stallion laughed "you will see from time to time" he smirked "do you have any good news for me today."
the orange mare squealed happily and took to the skies "YES YES YES I PASSED MY FLIGHT TEST!!!" she exclaimed flipping about the skies.
Naginata flew up and hugged her in mid flight as he laughed "well then it looks like we have even more of a reason to party. come on Pinkie is waiting for us".
The stallion and his daughter took off heading back to Sugarcube Corner for the event that was known as the Summer Sun Festival.

Summer Sun Mishap
The night was finally dawning and the party guest were filing one by one. the town dj,Vinyl Scratch, had already set up her booth and was testing her equipment for the proper sound. the guest were standing around talking as Pinkie Pie, with Fluttershy's help, began setting up the table. Rarity who was too busy obsessing over the decorations to notice that the mail mare had fallen through the roof landing on her.
"owww. Derpy how did you ever become the mail mare for this town" Rarity whinned and complained "my dress is simply ruined."
Derp blushed and slightly retreating back "i just don't know what went wrong " she exclaimed taking off her uniform and hanging it up.
Music began to play as Vinyl donned her shade taking her persona of Dj Pon-3. Everypony began to to sway and groove to the beat. Scootaloo flew in and joined her friends on the dance floor.
Vinyl got on the mic and smile yelling "LET THE BASS DROP!" and it did. everypony began to cheer loudly dancing harder than be for. it was a new song from Vinyl's album that had not been released yet. Naginata walked in and spotted Shadow Flare and joined him on the dance floor.
Shadow smiled and laughed at his friend who was acting like he had no idea what he was doing "come on Nagi we know your a heavy partier and we are on break. LET LOSE!!" he exclaimed as he began to shuffle his way across the floor.
Naginata smiled and followed suit as the began an old routine they did back in school " you know me all too well."
He stopped and walked over to the punch bowl and poured two drinks as he walked over to Pinkie who was dancing with Twilight Sparkle "for my lovely lady."
Pinkie laughed and kissed his cheek as she took the drink "Awww well thank you Nagi."
Twilight smirked and looked off to the side "are you enjoying the book i gave you"
Naginata nodded and shuffled in place "yes its helping me learn about Ponyville's history."
Pinkie smiled and squeed happily as the the music played "LET KICK THIS PARTY UP. HIT IT DJ!!"
Vinyl's smile widened as she turned up the music and spun a third record now instead of two, mixing new with the old. It sent everypony into shock and awe as the bass kicked. it was all every pony needed to make the party hype.
Naginata finished his drink and grabbed Pinkie and began to dance "now isn't this familiar."
She grew wide eye and tilted her head "Is it. cause if your talking about the last part then there wasn't nearly as many people?" she exclaimed having know clue what he was speaking off.
"Rainbow Dash was right you are random" he said with a chuckle.
"I am?" Pinkie said adorning a smile.
Naginata sighed and pulled her close "Just kiss me silly."
before they could lock lips the Princess of the sun approached them wearing and exuberant smile "and how are my loyal subjects doing."
Naginata nearly dropped Pinkie and bowed "hello Celestia i have set up your your pedestal for the rising of the sun. shall i show you?"
Celestia nodded and stopped dancing "please proceed" she said now dawning a more serious look.
Naginata headed out the bakery as he rubbed his ears" this way please.
Celestia followed him looking at all the at the decorations for festival " you all did very well on preparations."
Naginata stopped and held his head as he fell on one knee "forgive me my queen."
She extended her hand and helped him up "you still have gotten better, before you had no control over Nagi."
Naginata took her hand and stood "It's getting better with practice and the festival will begin soon since night has fallen."
Naginata looked around to see a few pony leave the party and begin to set up their stands for business. Celestia had taken the time to disguise her self to fit in and relax as Naginata watched her. she had given up her wings for the time being and shrunk in size.
"How does this look?" the princess exclaimed fixing her hair.
Naginata bowed and rubbed his head "you look fine my lady."
He recovered from his bow to see the Celestia had left to mingle with the other who we now leaving the party. the festival had begun but, the Naginata couldn't help but feel unsettled in the moment of peace.
Scootaloo had walked up to him and tugged on his shirt " you ok in there you look lost.
Naginata shook his head and looked at her "no….no I'm fine just a little unsettled thats all."
He looked up and closed his eye "go on and enjoy the festivities."
Scootaloo hugged her father and smiled "i can never repay you for all you have done for me."
Naginata hugged her back and held her close " just being all you can be is enough."
Naginata spread his wing and took to the skies as he landed on a near a lake close to the Everforest .he hovered over the lake and began to retreat to his subconscious.
he walked throughout the darkness of his mind and stopped in a white room and looked at the black and white haired figure in the middle "Nagi wake up I'm here to speak with you."
Nagi woke slowly with glowing eyes and sighed "and here i thought i would be able to rest and not have to do any thing for a long while."
Naginata smirked "shut and listen" he barked.
Nagi retreated back a bit "Ow. Thats harsh bro what did i do?"
Naginata sighed " I need you to know who is in charge. you may have control at night but i can revoke the privalige."
Nagi noded and smiled moving around his counter part "fine but i want to be able shed some blood once in a while."
Naginata extended his hand and smiled "agreed."
Nagi took his hand and smiled darkly " agreed."
They shook as Naginata began to walk out the room leaving his counterpart behind to rest. He opened his eyes and headed back to the festival as he landed in the crowd who were eagerly awaiting the rising of the sun.
Applejack walked up and leaned her arm on Naginata's shoulder " well hey ya'll made it. were you doing your fancy sleep standing thing."
Naginata chuckled "something like that" he looked up at the pedestal as Celestia walked up " its beginning."
A group of to the side began to play horns as Celestia spread he wing and began to raise bringing the sun with her. the audience watched in awe but something was wrong. half way into the sky a bolt of dark magic flew past the princess as she stopped. it was panic and chaos as everyone began to run in various directions. Naginata materialized a katana from his palm and cut through another bolt of dark magic.
"Twilight get a force field around the princess" he yelled as he sliced through more magic bolts.
"Got it" Twilight ran up to her teacher and erected a shield as Naginata fended off the attacks.
The attacks ended as Naginata withdrew his katana as everything calmed down. Celestia finished her task of raising the sun. She looked around at her subjects not knowing what to say.
Celestia cleared her throat "my loyal subject i must say i really enjoyed the festival even due to the events and i hope to do this again next year. I know a lot of you are afraid and worried and i will look into what has happend here today."
The town muttered as they began to disperse and nodded.
Celestia looked around and sighed " Twilight Sparkle i must ask you and your friends to join me in Canterlot at once."
Twilight nodded as the rest of the mane 6 gathered around "we will meet you there Princess Celestia."
They went their separate ways as Naginata sat on the ground "are you ok Celestia?"
She nodded and smiled "you and your friend are very skilled i could use someone like you two around Canterlot."
Naginata chuckled and smiled " I will consider it and I'm surprised you could see Shodow Flare too."
"well i can't reveal all my secrets" She smirked.
Without another word Celestia had disappeared with a flash. Naginata walked back wearily to his house as everyone had gone in for the day. Scootaloo was already asleep and Pinkie Pie was laying next to her. Naginata smiled and covered them up, falling over on the floor with another cover.

New Mission
it has been 4 months since the incident during the summer sun celebration and 4 everything is back to normal with a few minor changes. not only was the rainbow factor shut down due to a cover operation led by the Shinning Armor, but there was a newly wedded couple too. Naginata had finally got the life he wanted. a good retirement, a loving wife and daughter, and time to relax.
"hey naginata whats up" shadow flare yelled announcing he was in the house.
Naginata fell out his chair startled and sighed "how did you get in again."
His friend only laughed and smiled "oh naginata i just melted your locks."
The two looked at each other than began to laugh as naginata lifted him self off the floor with his wing and growled."
"I have to pay for those you jack wipe" he chased Shadow flare out into the streets of Ponyville reaching for his shirt collar.
Shadow flare ran only to stop before running into one of Princess Luna's guards "gyahhh hey watch it."
the guard pointed a spear at Shadow flare as Naginata had caught up.
"hey whats going on" Naginata exclaimed looking around.
the guard stepped aside as Luna walked off her carriage and smiled" hello citizens i am looking for the ones known as Naginata and Shadow Flare.
Naginata helped up his friend and nodded "thats us right here."
Luna tilted her head blinked " Tia said you two were warriors. you two don't look like warriors."
"thats cause we don't need a reason to be ones right now" shadow flare shot back looking at the guard.
the princess only smiled and nodded "then i need you two to come to canterlot. it is urgent."
she waved off her carriage and looked around "shall we take the train?"
Naginata nodded and began to lead the way as Shadow flare looked at him "what do you think."
shadow looked at Luna and shrugged" who am i to know, but if we are needed it is either good or bad."
naginata smiled and nodded heading in the direction of the Ponyville Express. Luna followed as Shadow flare walked behind her. She tilted her head as she ponder a thought.
They arrived in time for the train and hopped on taking there seats in the private section of the train. before luna could speak naginata had began to talk.
"your about to ask who we are and how we got our insigne" he pointed to his cutie mark which was on the palm of his hands.
Luna nodded "yes and how you are able to use magic if your not an alicorn nor a unicorn?"
Shadow Flare snapped his fingers as he created a fire ball then made it disappear "there's 3 of us who were cursed at birth with traces of dark magic."
Naginata gave a smile the made even Luna shudder "me being first born. Shadow Flare, and T-minus being the youngest."
Luna looked around "where is the other one?"
Naginata sighed "he went to go serve in the Crystal Empire War a while ago."
"So do you know what kind of dark magic you were cursed with?" Luna inquired?
Shadow flare stretched his wings and stood " me and T-minus are cursed with King Sombra's magic and Naginata is cursed with Nightmare Moon's."
Luna looked down at the mention of her former self "forgive me Naginata those were dark times for me and…"
Naginata raised his hand "it's ok my Luna i don't blame you."
The train had arrived in canterlot as Naginata looked around.
"So this is canterlot" he said with an annoyed look.
Shadow Flare himself had to contain the urge to burn every one in the kingdom " i see what everyone means by cocky."
Luna sighed "yes its true and they do look down on most people in Ponyville."
Naginata body slowly began to turn black a Shadow plucked his head as he came back to his senses.
"Naginata calm down" he snapped quietly as they walked.
"so those are the affects of the dark magic" luna watched in shock yet a bit of awe.
Naginata nodded and smiles" it happens sometimes."
Luna approached the doors to the castle as the guards moved their spears aside " they are with me. "
They entered the castle as as Celestia greeted her sister with a hug "for a moment i thought you had gotten lost."
Luna cheeks flushed pink" that was only once and you know it."
Celestia smirked as Luna began to mumble standing by her side" hello again gentleman its been a while since our last encounter.
The two bowed " the pleasure is ours once more."
"I have bought you her for a reason" Celestia's tone had become serious now.
Shadow Flare looked at her "why what do we have to offer?"
"in the recent months there have been assassination attempts on those in high positions, such as the Summer sun incident. Luna has no one to guard her and i need you two to fill that position." Celestia looked at the two.
Nagainata nodded following along as Shadow Flare Sighed.
"since you two have an outstanding ability your services will be needed. So i have made you homes in canterlot so you may fulfill your new jobs. i will take you to get a specialized armor and weapon kit for your jobs" she explained smiling at the happy expressions of the two warriors/guardsmen.
Luna looked pleased as she squeed with excitement "the protection has been doubled." she raced off ahead of the others as Celestia followed her.
as they left to go and get fitted for their armor, naginata tapped Shadow Flares arm and pointed to the corner as a figure disappeared. they slowly walked off and began to ready them selves as the caught up. Celestia smiled.
"welcome here is were you get fitted for your armor and weapons" she explained as she had trapped luna in a magic bubble.
Shadow Flare looked around "a light body armor with energy channeling pistols.
the black smith began to construct his armor and pistols, one a revolver and the other a magnum.
Celestia looked at Naginata walked over "Are you not decided yet."
Naginata nodded "one katana, two retractable blades and and a light metal samurai robe."
The black smith nodded as naginata walked over to the to the corner and dragged a figure with bat wings out.
naginata growled "who are you and.."
Luna broke free and cleared he throat "what new do you have for me Shadow Wing."
the stallion bowed " Cadence has requested you my princess."
Luna nodded " you are dismissed."
Naginata "thats your spy i presume."
Luna turned to him and nodded " your first job is to accompany me to to the Crystal Kingdom to meet with Cadence."
Shadow flare jumped happily as Naginata smiled and cringed with excitement. They headed home to prepare for the mission ahead. as they waited for their armor and weapons to be finished. they headed to their rooms and laid back on their bed.
they both stared at the ceiling and began to drift off to sleep " neither alicorn or union can match our skill. with the speed of a pegasus we move we move for the kill. with the heart of an earth pony we fight for whats right. we three brothers shrouded in darkness, fight for the light.

"NO I WANT TO GET THERE NOW!!!"
"can't we eat first?"
"LETS GO!!"
the yelling started as quick as the day began. Shadow flare was determined to get to his new battle armor as quick as he could. Event if it meant Naginata would go hungry for a while.
"CAN'T YOU EAT LATER" Shadow flare yelled trying to get Naginata off the Fridge handle.
"No i want to eat first our shit will be there" he remarked loosing his grip.
Shadow Flare pulled adamantly slowly prying his brother away "WE NEED TO BE ON TIME!"
Naginata was down to one finger on the handle and was slowly losing his grip "But we woke up early. WE. HAVE. TIME!"
With one last tug Shadow had successfully yanked his brother away and ran out the door. Naginata reached out as the door closed and his beloved fridge was gone. Shadow ran as fast as he could using his wing to propel him forward knocking over a few others.
"See Naginata this isn't so bad" Shadow remarked as he ran.
Naginata stayed reaching out as they passed various food stores and cafe's "yes it is. " he remarked in a whining voice.
Shadow shook his head and sighed " oh get over it" he replied as he jumped over a food stand."
Nagi reached down grabbing a sandwich and began to stuff his face filling the empty hole in his stomach "ohhhhh Celestia this sandwich is good."
Shadow flare stopped just inches of the door to the blacksmiths and smiled opening the door "annnnnd we're here."
Shadow Flare reached for his brother as Naginata turned and growled at him with glowing white eyes.
"IT'S MY FUCKING SANDWICH AND IM GOING TO EAT IT!!!" he screeched in a split voice.
Shadow Flare jumped hitting the ceiling and backed away slowly "ok damn. finish eating then."
Naginata finished eating as Luna had walked up behind Shadow Flare "is he always like this in the mornings?" she questioned.
"only if he doesn't eat other than that no. no he i not" shadow explained rubbing his head.
she nodded and walked over to the shop clerk and paid for the the battle kits. "here is yours Shadow and yours…"
she paused and looked around "where is Naginata."
Shadow could help but face palm and sigh " he is probably terrorizing Canterlot for food come on princess."
they walked out the door and stopped to look at the carnage that had ensued half of Canterlot. The air reeked of blood as bodies lay severed in each direction. a few buildings had caught fire while others remained leveled..
Luna grew a smile and jumped happily "i have the best guards ever" she turned to Celestia who was looking on awestruck "can your guards do this big sister? i don't fucking think so."
Celetstia sighed "i need a vacation and funeral arrangements."
Shadow flare laughed and pointed at a store as Naginata sat in the window "well at least he is full and happy" he smiled and looked around "but a memorial service will do i will burn the poor bastards who died."
Celestia walked as she stepped in a puddle of blood, crushing a subjects arm. the bone crushing sound was enough to make her cough up her breakfast "I'm going back to my room."
Shadow flare got to work burning the deceased as luna sipped on a milkshake "you know since he has your DNA you can control him right,"
Luna smirked " i know."
shadow sighed "your going to make him terrorize your sister aren't you."
Her eyes changed to Nightmare moon's as he grin became sinister " oh yes."
Shadow couldn't help but laugh " your are very childish for a princess."
Luna stuck her tongue out "i was banished to the moon and i had nothing to do so I'm having my fun now. besides we are going to the crystal empire today so i will have to be responsible."
She walked off as her eyes returned to normal "we must go get ready. for now you are dismissed be ready in two hours."
Shadow flare nodded "yes princess."
Naginata waltzed over and smiled " i got my stuff packed" he blurted cheerfully.
Shadow looked at him in amazement "what the hell are you?"
Naginata walked passed him and and smirked "i am a walking nightmare."
naginata disappeared as Shadow couldn't help but worry. he shrugged it off and went to go pack up as Celestia and Luna watched from their tower.
"Luna you know more about Naginata than i do what can you tell me about him" clelestia inquired as she looked at he beloved town.
Luna shook her head "Tia i can barely tell you much seeing as he didn't share much."
Celestia glanced over at her sister "then what do you know?"
Luna looked putting her hand to her chin "he has two brothers with him being the oldest, he is an ex-rainbow factory worker, he excels in weapons, he likes food, he has split personalities…."
celestia nodded "what about his magic ability?"
luna sighed "he has dark magic…..nightmare moon's dark magic to be exact."
Celestia looked at her in shock "but how none of your dark magic should have carried over?"
Luna shook her head once more "when you banished me i sent a bit of dark magic to find a host incase i never made it back"
Celestia sighed "then we must…"
"extract it? you can't" naginata cut her off and sighed "doing that will kill me. the dark magic is part of my soul."
Celestia nodded " i see then it can't be helped. you all must be going for Cadence is waiting."
Shadow flare walked out the bath room with his luggage "we are ready."
Luna picked pup her belongings and smiled "shall we be on our way then?"
Naginata and Shadow flare nodded and began to escort Luna to the Ponyville Express. Celestia watched as she sighed and began to make plans for repair.
"i need a vacation" the sun princess proclaimed with a heavy sigh.
As the three arrived at the station they quickly boarded and too there seats. luna had began to drift asleep on shadow flare's shoulder as Naginata sleep in the train beds. they were off to see what the Princess of love had wanted.
Shadow slowly became weary as his eyes began to close slowy as he yawned "what….c-could possibly… go…wrong"
