This Story Occurs Shortly The Events Of Hearths Warming Eve:

Long long ago, in a land far far away, there lived a unicorn and his family. The unicorn's name was Starswirl, and he had married a pegasus, which was usually frowned upon in pony society. They had been blessed with two beautiful fillies. The eldest, a unicorn, white as light, with a swirling mass of rainbow mane. They named this filly, Celestia. Years later, They had another filly. A pegasus, black as night, with midnight blue mane and tail. The Father knew these fillies would change the history of this world, but he didnt quite know how. One night, the father unicorn was experimenting with potions, and found a potion that could grant wings to ponies! He found another potion that could turn even the simplest earth-pony into the most magical of unicorns! But what would happen if he mixed the two species. what would happen to a pony with the powers of magic, and the ability of flight? He must test these potions! But on whom? He looked to his sleeping Daughters, and a plot formed. He would ask his wife and daughters for their permission to perform this experiment. If anything should happen wrongly, he had an antidote. He would create; THE ULTIMATE PONY!

When dawn rose, he confronted his family. The fillies readily agreed. Magic and flight? What pony wouldnt want that? Their mother was sceptical, "Suppose something went wrong?" she mused, "Suppose the enhanced form killed them, or the potion malfunctioned and turned them into freaks of nature? And then what breed would they be? Unicorn or Pegasus? This is too much of a risk!" But the fillies heeded not these warnings. Celestia had always dreamt of flying, and Luna had always dreamt of having magic abilities, so their father brewed the potions. Celestia drank of the pegasi potion, while luna drank the Unicorn elixer. The two fillies were enveloped in smoke, and Starswirl feared the worst. They rose into the air, and he could see dramatic changes taking place in his daughters. Two new appendages sprang from Celestia's withers, growing and fanning out, growing feathers, Wings. A single point grew from Luna's forehead, and black sparks showered from the tip, a Horn. The two fillies passed out, and fell to the ground. Their parents admired their new forms.
Celestia and Luna grew, as ponies tend to do, over the years, they gained many friends, and even some admirers. Celestia was courted by a grey bodied, white maned unicorn colt, by the name of Discord. Luna spent her time flying with a black pegasus by the name of Sombra. Now, both fillies being Immortal goddesses, they realized their beloved colt friends would slowly age and die, so they developed a plan. using their fathers recipe, they brewed the two potions. A potion of wings for Discord, and a potion of Magic fo Sombra. The fillies did not know however, the consequences of these potions being administered to the wrong pony...

"C'mon Discord!" Celestia pleaded, "You said you wanted to fly, didn't you?" Discord had to admit it, he had said that.

"But what if it doesnt work," he said, "what if it only works for fillies, of ponies with the heritage of the species?"

"Relax," Celestia said, dismissive of any kind of risk,

"It worked for me and Luna, it will work for you too! Its not even that bad! Once you get past the pain of wings growing from your back, it doesnt even hurt!" She had described the entire process to him in detail, and his green eyes seemed worisome. He finally gave in, and agreed to let her make the potion for him.

Luna was having similar problems with Sombra.

"But Sombri!" Luna whined, "You did say you wanted to be with me forever, now you can! Plus, you can teleport everywhere instead of having to fly! and you can do magic!" She demonstrated her magical abilities by sending a shower of sparks all around and teleporting into a tree. "ya see? Fun!" She teleported back.

"Luna, we dont know the risks of this potion. If this goes wrong, there wont be a ruler for the Crytal Empire!" And this was true. Sombra was the rightful heir to the throne of the Crystal Empire. If he died, there would be no ruler, and the empire would fall. Luna considered that for a moment.

"But if it works, then you could live forever and the Empire would have a ruler forever! Plus," she added, "They would have a magnificent queen alongside their king, dont you agree?" Sombra sighed.

"Alright. I'll take the potion. For you. AND FOR THE EMPIRE!!!"

Discord drank the potion first. He rose into the air and were each enveloped in a cloud of smoke.

"Whats happening?!?" Screamed Discord.
"Its ok, this happened to us too!" Celestia shouted. She knew what happened with her sister and her, but was not prepared for what would occur next. With loud snaps and cracking sounds, Discords bones were crushed and rearranged. He screamed in agony, but there was nothing Celestia could do but watch. She watched as his body became longer, and his hooves turned to claws and paws, and his horn spread into two antlers. The creature that finally fell to the ground in front of her was no longer the colt she knew and loved. He was a monster! She rushed to him, but he had curled into a ball and begged her not to look at him. She did not heed his request, and was appalled at what he had become. He was not pony, nor griffin, nor dragon: he was nothing she had ever seen. He begged for her to just kill him, to end his suffering, but she refused. The compromise was for her to encase him in marble until a cure could be found. She kissed him goodbye, then steeped back and let the magic take place...

Luna unfortuneately, did not know the marble spell. When Sombra drank the potion, his change was almost worse. He screamed as his wings shrank, and a curved black horn sprouted from his head as Luna watched with horror. He fell to the ground, and looked to Luna in rage.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!" he roared in an echoing voice, his eyes engulfed in red and green flames. A sudden burst of black sparks spouted from his horn, and Luna was engulfed in a black ambience.

"Sombra?" she cried out, "Sombra, I love you!" Bit it was too late. Evil had entered the colt's heart, and he cursed Luna with a seed of evil before running off into the distance, not to be heard from again for years to come.

The two fillies were alone for years to come, ruling their kingdom in cooperation, with only eachother. Until one day, they received news from the Crystal Empire. Their king had gone insane, and was enslaving the citizens. Luna and Celestia flew to the kingdom, and Luna was met with a terrible shock as she faced the pony she once loved. An epic battle ensued, and the princesses sealed the dictator in a magical chasm for an eternity of imprisonment. Seeing Sombra had jarred loose the evil he had planted in her mind, and Luna morphed in front of Celestia's eyes. Her baby sister had changed into the terrifying Nightmare Moon!
