“What?!” Twilight and Rainbow Dash exclaimed simultaneously, their eyes wide and jaws open in parallel expressions. The fireplace danced merrily, throwing cozy heat and light through Golden Oaks library, alighting on the six ponies its warm, flickering yellows and oranges. The four new arrivals, all dressed in winter wear and carrying party favors, stood frozen at the front door, confusion cutting through their merriment. Still laying on floor pillows in front of the fire with a book propped open between them, the two mares cried out in unison, “We’re not dating!”
“But…but you two spend so much time together…” Rarity was struggling to not go cross-eyed, puzzling over this turn of events. She dropped the box of banners she was floating in her magic to the floor. “Rainbow dear is here at the library all hours of the day…”
“An’ every time ya come to the farm all ya do is talk about Twi’, RD…” Applejack’s brow was drawn together over wide eyes. She tipped her Stetson back to scratch the top of her head with a hoof.
“Um, yes, and it does seem that Rainbow is a favorite subject of yours, Twilight. If you don’t mind me saying so.” Fluttershy had sunk behind Pinkie Pie, the earth pony still on her hindlegs holding a large box of streamers and plastic ware. Her gigantic grin had transformed to slack-jawed, utter bewilderment.
“I mean, c’mon! It’s obvious you two are together! You’re such a cute couple!” She stamped a pink hoof, jostling the contents of the box.
Twilight and Rainbow Dash’s mouths and eyes remained frozen open in shock. As the four mares spoke in turn, their gaze kept shifting back and forth from the offending ponies and each other. At last the spell broke over the pegasus and she leapt to her hooves. “We’re just friends!”
The lavender unicorn climbed to standing, her bewilderment shifting to anger. “Can’t a couple ponies like reading together and hanging out?”
“Yeah!” Rainbow had lowered down to a fighting crouch, her rose eyes narrowed venomously. “Where do you four get off? The fact that I haven’t been quiet about being gay doesn’t mean—”
“Wait, you’re gay?” The pegasus’ steam broke as her attention was drawn back to the purple bookworm. After a moment, Twilight shrugged her shoulders and said with a nod, “Huh…” before redirecting her attention to the shocked, silent group. At their sight, her indignation flared back to life. “And shame on you for perpetuating the stereotype that all unicorn’s are bisexual! It’s so stupid, even if it happens to be true for me.” The sky blue mare did a double-take, but quickly regained her anger.
“Yeah, you girls are totally prejudiced! Just because we, uh, apparently are both into mares doesn’t make us a couple!”
“Yeah!” the purple mare stamped a hoof.
“And just because Twilight’s totally my type doesn’t mean anything either!”
“Wait, what? I’d have thought you’d go for more athletic ponies.” Twilight’s anger had vanished again as she regarded her indignant reading buddy. The pegasus returned her attention to the unicorn, one eyebrow firmly raised.
“Huh? Nah, I get too competitive; I like quiet eggheads.” Twilight shook her head, glaring at their friends again.
“Well…even though I tend to go for ponies of either gender who aren’t as studious as me doesn’t mean anything either!”
“Yeah!” Rainbow Dash’s wings flared for emphasis. “And just because I’m currently single—”
“We.”
“We are both currently single and actively looking…” The mare grimaced at the potential faux pas and turned to Twilight for confirmation.
Twilight smirked and nodded enthusiastically. “Oh, yeah.”
“…Doesn’t mean squat!” The two had been steadily advancing on their friends, who had shrunk back against the library’s door, their party favors abandoned. As the indignant mares had berated them, they got more and more bewildered. “You all have some nerve!” Rainbow turned to glare at Twilight. “Like I’d date her, anyway!”
Twilight’s venom switched to her chromatic-maned friend. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You’re a mess! It’d never work!”
“Oh, like you’re such a catch!” the unicorn snarled, her muzzle wrinkling. “You lazy, listless—”
“Angsty, space-case—”
“Braggart, show-off—”
“Neurotic, work-obsessed—”
The two mares were closing the small gap between them, lowered aggressively, their voices growing in volume and animosity.
“Self-centered, good-for-nothing, roustabout jerk!”
“Nut-bag, obsessive-compulsive, committable nerd!”
“Dumbass!”
“Psycho!”
They were muzzle to muzzle, eyes locked in a death glare. Suddenly they were both shouting all at once, their friends cringing against the library wall.
“OF COURSE IT WOULD NEVER WORK, EVEN IF YOU ARE—”
“ATHLETIC, LOYAL—”
“SMART, KIND—”
“AMAZINGLY TALENTED AT EVERYTHING YOU DO—”
“AS COOL AS I AM AT FLYING WITH MAGIC—”
“LITHE AND BEAUTIFUL, WITH GORGEOUS EYES—”
“CURVY AND SEXY IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS—”
Their torrent of words bled together in a cacophonous din, expressions contorted with rage, sparks flying between their eyes. As their tirade ended, they both shouted in unison, “UNDENIABLY THE HOTTEST PIECE OF FLANK IN PONYVILLE!”
A thick silence fell over the library, both mares panting from the effort of their screaming. They were snout to snout, eyes narrow and bloodshot. Their friends remained pressed to the door, jaws and eyes wide. The atmosphere grew more and more tense.
Twilight tackled her blue friend to the floor of the library, forehooves flying into multicolored mane. Rainbow’s limbs snaked around the unicorn’s middle, pressing their bodies tightly together. Their mouths opened simultaneously, tongues exploring each other with heated intensity. Blue hooves ran up and down Twilight’s sides, one settling over her cutie mark and squeezing. The mare’s back arched and she gasped, breaking the kiss. Rainbow’s head shot up to her neck, nipping and sucking wherever she could find purchase along her purple coat. Twilight turned her head to give the pegasus better access and caught sight of the four still in front of the door.
Twilight’s eyes were glazed over with a heated lust, mane already disheveled and her muzzle a deep, dark burgundy. “Run.”
Their friends bolted as quickly as their fumbling hooves would let them, the door slamming hard enough to knock the ‘We’re Open’ sign to the floor. Just as well.
Twilight’s attention returned to the blue mare frantically nibbling on her neck. She set both forehooves on Rainbow Dash’s shoulders and forcefully pressed the struggling pegasus to the floor. Their lips locked again, burning muzzles desperately close. Purple hooves slid down the athletic mare’s body, the soft hairs of her coat standing on end in their wake. The unicorn’s exploration moved back, sliding gently over sky blue feathers.
The pegasus arched her back and her wings snapped open. Twilight rustled through the downy limbs, relishing in the low vibrations Rainbow Dash’s moans buzzed through her mouth, her ministrations through soft feathers eliciting erratic twitches. Blue hooves shot along her sides with lightning quickness. A heat was growing in the unicorn’s core, the heady scent of her desire mixing with Rainbow’s and hanging in the air around them. She pulled back from the kiss, catching a blue lip in her teeth and pulling gently. The face of the cyan mare under her was stained scarlet across her snout, eyes half-lidded and barely focused. She panted deeply, half voiced squeaks punctuating each exhalation. Twilight bit her own lip and sparked her horn to life in a gentle, mulberry glow.
Rainbow Dash nearly flung the unicorn off as her back arched, every feather on her wings being tweaked and brushed by invisible force. Twilight slid down the celeste blue pony’s twitching body with painful slowness, biting and sucking in a steady trail. Rainbow’s moans had grown to near frantic squeals as she arrived at the mare’s swollen, glistening sex. The powerful smell of her lust staggered the unicorn, snapping her hindlegs together in a futile attempt to contain her own excitement. As a breathless whine escaped her lips, she ran her tongue down a soft blue thigh.
Rainbow cried out, forehooves scrabbling on the wooden floor searching for something to grip. She felt the unicorn’s hot, wet tongue arrive at the bottom of her parted lips and sweep up with maddening slowness. Her forelimbs abandoned the floor and swept through indigo mane. Twilight’s hind legs flew open, a bead of moisture escaping her flower petal folds and running down her thigh. She swung her body around and shoved her desperate lust in Rainbow’s face. The mare’s tongue shot out in a point and she buried her muzzle in the unicorn, forehooves wrapped around purple haunches. Twilight stifled a cry, redoubling her efforts on Rainbow’s delicious sex. Flicking and sucking at the mare’s engorged clit, she ran her hooves up and down cyan thighs, tracing gentle circles. Involuntarily, she began rocking her hips against Rainbow’s snout. The pegasus’ own hips began to move, their tempos syncing and slowly rising in speed and strength. Rainbow’s magenta eyes watched purple as her movements quickened, the look of growing desire reigniting her own want. Twilight’s horn sparked back to life and Rainbow Dash felt a soft, tingling warmth against her clit. The two panted silently, eyes locked as the pegasus’ hoof grew faster and faster against the unicorn’s nub.

She slowly rocked her hips in time with the magic force, small squeaks of joy punctuating every strained breath. Twilight’s breath quickened to match, one of her hooves sliding between her own legs of its own accord. Rainbow’s flared wings began to twitch as her mewling grew louder and more strained, her voice cracking on each exclamation. Twilight was dripping wet as the pegasus came again, burying her cries in the unicorn’s chest. Clutching the mare tightly, she sucked and nibbled lavender coat, her lust drenching her thighs and the base of her tail.
She flopped to the ground heavily and immediately felt Twilight crawling up her torso. Purple thighs settling on either side of her head, Twilight thrust her dripping folds against the spent mare’s muzzle. Feeling hooves grip her mane and hips thrust strongly against her face, she lapped greedily, groaning happily into the unicorn’s sex. Tiffany blue hooves cradling her bucking hips, Twilight rode the daredevil’s face, back arched and panting with growing desperation. With one final grinding buck, Twilight cried out into the empty library in an inarticulate proclamation of her satisfaction, a happy, muffled, wet groan from the pegasus adding a low timbre to the exclamation. She collapsed to the side of her satiated partner and they curled up in a sweat-drenched, sticky mess.
“Sweet Celestia,” Rainbow breathed between pants, “Should have done that months ago.” Her jaw ached in the best possible way.
“So, uh…what is this?” Twilight traced a hoof in lazy doodles on the pegasus’ chest, her labored breathing slowly growing even. “Do you want this to be a one-time thing, maybe do this casually, or…do you want to try and make this something more?” The unicorn smiled and hugged Rainbow Dash closer. “We’d apparently make a good couple.”
The cyan mare’s brow furrowed and she pursed her lips. “…Is there a way we could go out and not call it dating? I don’t wanna see Pinkie Pie’s ‘I told you so’ face.”
The two broke out into laughter. A weight neither had noticed had been lifted from their hearts; a revelation of transcendent joy elevating them both. They reveled in each other’s presence on the floor, lost in simple, carefree mirth. Their giggling was interrupted by Spike’s timid voice, floating around the corner of a doorway. “...Is it over?”

After spending two months writing over fifty thousand words of my more serious, kinda dark fic Coming Back I needed to shake some of the grimdark spiders out of my brain.
