Welcome to my story, I hope you enjoy it.
A great man once said that the end of life is just a new beginning; I had no idea how wonderful it would be, my name is Dakota, and these are my adventures in Equestria.
I awoke that morning to the sound of the soft pitter patter of rain overhead, it had been a welcome change to the normal sunny weather, back home it always rained, it always made a little homesick. I pulled myself out of bed and walked through the open doorway to my living room, I stopped to pull back the curtains to my window, a wondrous sight awaited me, a beautiful aurora had appeared in the sky. it was gorgeous, the dark night was split by the sheer beauty of this masterpiece.
It was bright emerald green, almost filling the whole morning sky with its illuminating glow. I stepped through the front door to catch a better glimpse of the sky, only to be hit with the sudden sensation of falling, it hit me like a brick, I felt my knees buckle and the ground underneath me seemed to give away, leaving a chasm in the stone of my driveway, next thing I knew I was falling.
The ground was soft when I awoke, almost unnaturally so, as I rolled over on my side to get a good view of the surrounding area, everything was, to say in the least, creepy and foreboding, there was no light in the forest I seemed to be in, nothing but trees and trees for what seemed like dozens upon dozens of miles, it looked like the forest had naturally grown to not accommodate visitors.
I stood up unsteadily; making sure my wooziness would not handicap me and make me fall back to the dirt. I walked to a small grove that was hidden in the vines, I felt the warmth of sunshine on my face once again, I seemed to be mostly clear of the forest, a small dirt path overgrown by vegetation lead to a dark castle in the distance,
It definitely had not been touched in what seemed like millennia, It was black, entirely so, traditionally built like a castle, with brick and mortar, long green vines covered the front of the castle like snakes twisting its prey to death, I pushed some of the brush out of the way and stepped onto the long dirt path leading to the castle.
I checked myself to see if I was in one piece; all extremities seemed to still be a part of me. My baby blue shirt was covered in dirt and canvassed with leaves from the forest, my pants seemed however, were untouched by the grime that soaked the rest of my body, I inspected my shoes as well, the bright Jordan logo still somewhat visible under the layer of dirt.
Finished with myself and happy with the result, I continued up the path to the castle, stopping only to get a small sip of the mountain stream that ran the castle, there were no fish, that and it seemed like the forest was completely devoid of life, it was like all life had left this place, leaving nothing but a husk. The castle was not far now, and I quickened the pace, getting closer and closer to the open drawbridge.
Finally I had reached it, I took a step inside to see nothing but blackness, luckily a torch was still in the sconce upon the wall, I grabbed it and it roared to life, leaving the room in a bright green glow, it was a throne room, the décor was covered in dust, but it was still purple and black.
the whole room was washed in those hues, the throne however was not dusty.
It appeared to be recently sat in; the upholstery was black and definitely silk, with a small blue cushion with the symbol of a moon, in front of what looked like a black splotch. The room smelt entirely like dust, but I could still sense a little bit of lavender perfume in the air. A dark figure, cloaked in shadow appeared up on the stairs, a voice, ripened with melancholy, echoed through the air.
“Who hath dared to step within my throne room?” it caught me definitely by surprise, but I managed to regain composure and respond quickly.
“That depends, who am I speaking to?”
“It matters not,” she replied, running her finger through the thick layer of dust on the railing of the stairs as she walked down the stairs, stopping only to wipe her finger on her dress. As she walked to close to me, I got a good look at her face, she was beautiful to say in the least, her heart shaped face accented by raven hair and a smattering of pink freckles, but what caught me off guard was her eyes, purple and almond in shape, I could see a lifetime of pain and suffering as I stared into her eyes, she walked closer and placed her hand upon my face and whispered into my ear.
“After millennia, a champion has appeared, stay close to the night, and I shall be always by your side.”
And with that she was gone.
I looked around quickly, trying to catch her, but there was no one there but me and my thoughts. Once again I felt the sensation of falling, and I fell once again, deeper in to the rabbit hole.Waking up once again in the forest, but I was on the edge of a small town, there where cottages lining up in rows for about a mile, I could see people walking and conversing in what looked like the town square. Everyone’s hair was brightly colored in hundreds of different hues, but none of it appeared dyed, it was like everyone was born this way.
I stepped of the slope to the town and walked slowly through Main Street, nobody seemed to pay me much mind as I walked into a small corner bakery called Sugarcube Corner. As I walked in I appeared to catch the attention of the woman manning the store, her hair was a bright bubblegum pink and she gave off air of friendliness, she hopped over the counter and nearly tackled me to the ground. She spoke so fast that I could only understand half of it
“OhmmmyygoshanewpersonthisislikethebestthingeverjustwaittillitellTwilight!” I steadied myself from my sudden attack and responded back.
“Um, hello.” She looked at me funny and grabbed me by the hand, dragging me down the street to a house that looked like it had been built inside of a hollowed out tree. Still ahold of me, she knocked on the door three times, for it to be answered by a small boy about fourteen, he had a bright purple faux hawk and a few piercings in his eyebrow and ears.
He looked at me quizzically and said.
“Who’s this?”
Pinkie let go of me and I put my hand out for a handshake.
“My name is Dakota, and could you please kindly tell me where I am right now?”He looked at me even stranger.
“Equestria, you know right, Ponyville.”
Ponyville? I’m guessing that the economy was probably based on equines.
“So, Ponyville right? Anyway that you could possibly get me home?”
“That depends,” The boy said, “Where is your home?”
“Kentucky, in the United States, you know.”
“What’s the United States?” as soon as he said that I knew that there was no possible way I was getting home, I was royally fucked. A small woman walked up behind him, she was definitely of Asian descent, with purple hair, with a bright pink stripe running down it, and she cleared her throat and looked down at the boy.
“Who is this Spike?” Spike huh, that’s a strange name.
“He says his name is Dakota, he’s new in town.” She extended her hand and I shook it.
“My name is Twilight Sparkle,” she pointed to the girl with pink hair behind me, about to explode with glee, “And that’s Pinkie Pie.” Bout time I was able to attach a name to the extremely excited girl.
she stood aside and ushered us inside, the room was covered, top to bottom in books, I chuckled warmly, and said.
“So, I’m assuming you are a reader?” she looked at me smiling,
“How could you ever possibly guess?”
I spent the next few hours talking to Twilight and Spike, filling them on my meeting with the mysterious woman, and me waking up on the edge of town. It had grown late by the time I had finished my story, and I bid them farewell and walked down the street to the town park, I lied down on one of the benches and fell asleep.
Hopefully I could maybe figure out a few things when I awoke in the morning, but, for now, I was happy enough to get some sleep after what had happened today.
That morning I woke up and stretched, picking myself off the bench and decided to take a walk around town to possibly get my bearings. The whole palace had a sort of cartoonish feel to it, all of the homes and businesses looked like they were lifted off the page of a children’s story book.
I headed of the path of the main street to a long dirt road that seemed to lead off to a small apple farm a couple hundred feet away. I walked up to the farm and pushed open the gate that said Sweet Apple Acres, I stepped up to the front door of the small farmhouse situated on the property, I knocked a few times, only to be greeted by a ginormous hulk of a man.
“Can I help you?”
“Um, hello, my name is Dakota, and I wondered if you were possibly hiring?”
He looked me over and replied.
“Well, if you can pick the apple trees clean, by noon, I can definitely say that there is a position open, if you are able to do it.” He pointed off into the distance to a small grove of about twenty apple trees. I walked towards one of them and shimmed up the trees, knocking most of them off by shaking the trees into a waiting basket below.
I repeated this for the next few trees, and before I knew it, I had cleared the entire grove of apples. I walked back up to the house, only to see the man, a cowboy hat situated on his head, a cigarette in his mouth, he extended his hand and I shook it, his hands were rough and calloused and his grip was hard, I met his exact amount his force in my handshake, I could see he was little surprised by my handshake.
“ You've got the grip of a farmer, have you by chance ever had any experience in this field before?” back home I grew up on a farm in northern Kentucky, I was the only son of farmers, and I was destined to be one, it broke my old man’s heart when is aid I was headed to college ager my graduation, I hadn’t spoken since that day, I truly did miss them quite a bit.
“Yeah, I’ve got quite a bit of experience in farming.”
“well, you've got the job, get working on the rest of the trees, pays fifteen dollars an hour, no benefits, starts every morning’ at about 5:30. We shook hands again and I got started on the trees, it was dark when I first saw her, blond hair and tanned, a cut off flannel, and blue jean tucked into her boots, she was gorgeous, she was paying with a small dog.
I decided not to pay her much mind, but i would certainly introduce myself to her later, but until then, i had work to do.
