Twilight's ascension caught her friends off guard, but Pete had only stood and clapped. He had known it was coming after all. While he never told any of the ponies about what he knew was on the horizon he was always aware of them. So when the day came that dark vines spewed from the Everfree and Princess Twilight was uncertain of what to do, he was calm.

“You knew this would happen!” She accused him as he approached at a casual saunter, her hoof jabbing at him in the air.

“Of course I did. I remember almost every major event, Princess.” He chuckled at the last part. As much as it had bothered him from a writing stand point, it was cute how he could fluster her with her title now.

“Well, what do I do? What did the me that you saw do?”

“I can't spoil everything, Twilight. I have to let you make your own choices here. We've talked about this before, not only is everything different now that me and the other humans arrived, even if they're ponies now, but things were different before. We can't risk the-”

“Fabric of time and space and reality,” Twilight said, comically annoyed, “I know, I know! It's really aggravating that you keep mentioning that when I just want some advice.”

Pete smiled and looked down at her. She was going to make the same decision here, he knew it. It was Twilight and her friends had already gone into the forest. She was going to chase in after them. His own presence stopped her though. She was trying so hard to do the right thing that she might end up doing the wrong one.

“Well, I can't say anything,” Pete held up a finger as the purple alicorn went to protest, “But I can do this.” With a mighty roar Pete transformed, his muscles bulging, scales regrowing, wings sprouting, and within a minute there stood the Aspect. His yellow eyes looked kindly upon the princess, and she smiled back.

“Let's go!” she shouted and dove into the forest.

Pete chuckled and followed her. That was his duty now. To follow the Elements of Harmony into the jaws of danger. Defend them while they risked their lives, and pull them from the fire if things were to go wrong. Many things were different than he remembered, the humans that had become ponies added many new twists and turns, but for the most part Pete had settled well into his new life in Equestria.
