I sit and pray to the great goddess Luna. It’s all that’s left for me to do as I wait for the end to finally make its way to the room I’ve hidden myself in. My friends sacrificed themselves so that I may live yet I failed them. I trapped myself in this room only to await a fate worse than death itself. So now I sit and pray and reflect on what led me to be where I am.
The quest started off easy enough. We were contacted by the local church of Radiagast, the god of death and protector of the souls of the fallen. The high priest, Runegar a surly old earth pony whose beard scrapes along the ground behind him, had felt a dark presence in the local catacomb when he had gone down to perform the parting rights of a recently fallen town guard. So he went and contracted our party to go into the catacombs and see if we could identify the presence he felt and report back with what we found.
Renard Oakskin, a tall, dark coated and well-muscled pegasus paladin of Clesestia, took an old rusty door off its hinges, with a quick prayer to his goddess for strength, and led us deep into the cursed catacombs. Lillah Silvertounge, a tall light coated unicorn , lights the darkness with a mage light that looks like a corporal star, while I, Denegar Brightbeard earth pony cleric in service to the great goddess Luna, bless the remains of those interred in the catacombs for generations so that they might not be raised by a cultist in service of the great demon prince of undeath, Ganandroff. As we travel I begin to feel the evil presence that Runegar had spoken of. Soon enough we found the source of the evil presence and evidence of the workings of a sect of Ganandroff’s cultist. In a room filled with the skeletons of the long dead, and corpses of the newly dead we find a sacrificial altar. Made of the bones of the dead, and interred with unholy powers over death, the alter radiates a dark and evil aura that chills those who even look at it. I make my way forward to cleanse and destroy this unholy abomination, suddenly a dark light pulses off of the altar. Slowly as the light touches the remains of the long dead, they begin to groan and shift. Slowly the skeletons reassemble themselves to the proper shape, while the newer corpses begin to rise as zombies.
I quickly pray to my god for strength of arms and prepare to release these poor unfortunate souls from their dark servitude as my companions prepare for the coming fight in their own ways; Renard placing a blessing of fire upon his sword, and Lillah shielding herself and and preparing to strike down the undead abominations with her spells. Though our blows were mighty and our spells powerful no matter what we did the foul undead would not stay dead for long. For every time one would fall a tendril of dark power would come from the altar and shackle the soul to the corpse once again. Slowly we were forced from the room deeper into the catacombs. Eventually we are surrounded and Renard decides that there is no way we’re all making it out alive. He sends us on without him, making a final stand against the relentless undead. As we leave we hear a mighty roar rip from his throat followed by a rolling flame from the doors as he gives his life to turn everything in that room to dust.
As Lillah and I attempt to find our way out we stumble across a strange room. It had a strange circle inscribed into the floor, with arcane runes along the outside. As we inspect the room the circle flares with a bright red light and Lillah suddenly understands what it is. She tells me that its a summoning circle and whatever is coming through is most likely a demon in service of Ganandroff. She tells me to run and find help that she would hold the demon off long enough for me to escape. As I run I hear a loud roar followed by a massive explosion that makes the very earth shake under my feet. Eventually my feet can carry me no further and I hide in this abandoned room.
So here I sit waiting for the inevitable end at the hands of these poor souls I wasn’t strong enough to save. I pray to my goddess to send a champion like no other to end this plague and bring the final peace upon these souls. I can hear the shuffling of the dead feet and the rasping of their breath. The end is upon me. I regret not being strong enough to save my friends.
