Sharing a Blanket
Sharing a Blanket
Load Full StoryIt was a cold night, one that I will always remember. The stars twinkled off in the distance, making themselves visible in the beautiful night sky. I wasn’t able to observe most of the wonders of the outside world that night, as I was instead resting inside a small cottage, only able to base my observations out of what I could see through a window. As much as I loved to stargaze, such a thing did not occupy most of my thoughts during that night. I did, however, glance at the window every now and then, just to look for any constellations, an act which I quickly wore out, having found every one that occupied the sky that night.
No, stargazing was not an important thing that night, it was far from it. What was important however, was the pegasus who was cuddled up closely next to me. A single, warm blanket lay over the two of us, helping us keep ourselves from freezing. I lay next to her in silence, pressing closely against her side, and just enjoying her company. I enjoyed the warmth that she brought to me as well, most of which came from her wing, which had been gently wrapped around me. I felt a small bit of movement against my side, and I assumed at that very moment that she must have been shuffling around to attempt to find a more comfortable position. I turned to look at her, and stared in awe at the sight before me.
To put simply, she looked absolutely beautiful. A few strands of her mane lay across her nose, going down past her lip and ending just after her chin. The rest lay across the floor, some of it even spreading across my forelegs. I could feel my cheeks burning, the sensation only increasing in intensity the longer I gazed upon the incredibly beautiful pegasus close to me. I was soon able to look away, and I could easily feel the heat escaping from my cheeks. I decided to relax, resting my head upon my hooves, smiling and watching the pegasus before me as she slept.
I felt her wing tighten its grip around me, and her entire body seemed to become tense. I noticed her eyes slowly opening, and I rubbed my nose against her cheek, greeting her as she woke. “Morning sleepyhead…” I whispered as quietly as I could into her ear, the act of which seemed to give her the final push she needed to wake up completely. Her body relaxed, and she smiled at me, her cheeks turning to the faintest shade of pink.
“Twilight… What time is it?” She asked as she closed her eyes again, letting out a small yawn that I found very cute.
“It’s almost midnight, Fluttershy… It’s almost New Year’s Day…” I responded to her, glad that she was awake for the moment, the start of a new year, that was about to come along.
I could tell that she was happy that we could share the moment together as well, as the smile on her face grew as the words escaped my lips. She sighed quietly, and I assumed she did so out of relief that she hadn’t slept through such an important moment. I rubbed my cheek against hers in a loving nuzzle, and she returned the gesture, albeit slower and more gentle than I did.
Her cheeks flushed to a deeper shade of pink, the color very similar to her own mane. I found such a thing to be absolutely adorable, to put very simply. My ears shot up as I heard the clock strike twelve, notifying me of the change to midnight, and to the start of the New Year. She turned to face me at that moment, and we shared a moment of staring into each other’s eyes, before we slowly leaned towards each other, and I pressed my lips against hers gently, but with enough force for it to actually be considered a kiss. I brought my eyes to a close, and at that very moment I was certain that I was the luckiest unicorn, no, the luckiest pony in all of Equestria. My heart was racing, and I was almost sure it was loud enough for her to hear. I held the kiss for what was most likely only a minute, but it felt as if it had lasted forever. As I pulled away, she did the same, and I looked deeply into those beautiful cyan eyes of hers. I was excited, not just of being able to share this night with her, but also due to the kiss I had shared with her. It had been the first one I had with her, and also the first one I ever had.
I felt my cheeks burning again, and I could tell that I was blushing very heavily, as she let out what I believed to be the cutest giggle my ears ever had the pleasure of hearing, and she brought her cheek up to mine in another nuzzle. I sat next to her in silence, and our eyes remained locked for another minute. She gave the gentlest smile I had ever seen, and rest her head under my chin, rubbing her cheek against my chest. “Fluttershy…”
I had only begun to speak when the pegasus decided to speak up for herself. “Twilight… I love you…”
I wrapped my forelegs around her, holding her as closely as I possibly could. “I love you too, Fluttershy.” I whispered into her ear, returning my feelings to the yellow mare. She closed her eyes shortly afterwards, and soon drifted off to the sweet, relaxing realm of slumber. I smiled happily, placing my lips against the top of her head. “Goodnight, my little Fluttershy…” I whispered, being careful to not wake her up, and closed my eyes as well, and found myself slipping from consciousness, falling asleep next to the mare I loved.
