Darkest of Days
Chapter 2 Introduction
Previous ChapterNext Chapter“Why am I shackled in a corner” was my first thought when I had finally awoke. I was in some kind of dungeon and of course was shackled to one of the corners. There were no windows, and only one large iron door. My restrains seemed loose, as though they weren’t meant for someone with a wrist. With a little maneuvering I was able to slide them right off.
There wasn’t much to see inside of my small prison, just a lot of cobblestone and some moss. Finally taking in my surroundings I noticed the door begin to open, showing two of those armored ponies. The room I was in was so dark that they didn’t even notice that I had snuck out of my bonds.
“So what do you think this thing is” said one of the guards motioning towards the door in caution.
“Dunno but I think… wait where is it” said the other guard looking to all corners of the room frantically.
Wearing dark cloths always did have its benefits. While the two guards inspected every inch of the room I took the only chance I had to run. Kicking off the wall I sprinted out of my cell, closing the door on my way out, locking the guards inside.
“Hey get back here, some pony stop that thing” the yelled in unison at me. Luckily no one was around to hear their yelling.
This dungeon seems medieval, not to mention like a maze, getting lost in here is easy. Then again I don’t know how I got in here in the first place. Running aimlessly finally led to a stair case leading up at the top of the stairs was a large wooden door. I could begin to hear the sound of yelling coming from behind.
“Where the buck is that thing” said a loud gruff voice
“We don’t know sir it took off and locked us in here”
“Well don’t just stand around, find it now”
“Yes sir” said the two guards in unison.
“I will inform the princesses of our current situation” said the loud gruff voice.
The sound hooves grew louder, “only one choice now, up” I whispered to myself as I sprinted up the stairs. Praying that the door wasn’t locked I slowly and easily began to push. With luck it wasn’t locked and began to budge ever so slightly.
“Stop right there creature” said the same voice from before. Peering down from the stairs I noticed a ragged jet black pony with a black and greying mane. He began to run, as did I, throwing open the door I sprinted through, not caring what lye on the other side.
What I saw next surprised me, the innards of a large throne room. Within were many more guards, wielding spears.
“Fuck me, can this day get any worse” I thought to myself as I ran straight across and into another hallway. There were other ponies around, wearing what looked like maids outfits. The yelling behind me only intensified, until a large silvery white barrier came in between me and another hallway. Running into it felt like running head on into a brick wall.
I fell hard to the ground, clenching my head in pain, as an excruciating headache crept upon me. Again my world began to fade into darkness, I caught a glimpse of what looked like a large white horse it had both wings and a horn. Soon after I was gone once more, into a dreamless slumber.
I awoke one more, not in a cell this time. Instead I lay in a soft be, a small throbbing pain still leeched through my head causing me to get dizzy.
“Aww, look who’s finally awake” said a voice from the far end of the room. Since it was now night only a portion of the room was lit by the moonlight. I could see nothing just pitch black darkness.
“Wh… who’s there” I stammered out trying to lean up.
“Just a friend, you need rest” said the voice once again, finally distinguishing the voice, it sounded female.
“Well show yourself at least” I said on the verge of vomiting.
“All In due time, right now you must sleep” after her sentence a small dull blue glow came to life in one of the corners. “Shh sleep now” was the last thing I heard until I was once again asleep.
Images began to float through my head, having to watch people being taken away from their loved ones, by that damned darkness. The icy pain one again returned, as though someone was stabbing me with frozen needles. I began to scream for it to end, make the darkness go away. As though on queue the pain ended, all the darkness was gone and is now replaced with a bright comforting light.
Making my way over to the light only granted me more comfort, so close but yet so far away. Again as if on cue, I was pulled out and awoke to a bright light.
“Gahh so bright” I whined covering my face with the soft blankets. My head no longer had that dull throbbing pain that it had once had, I no longer felt like vomiting on the spot. With my new found comfort I pulled of the sheets and climbed out of bed. Strangely enough all of my clothes were gone and I was only left in my boxers.
Looking around I found all of my cloths neatly stacked on a dresser. “Relax no one is around to watch you” I said to myself as I tiptoed over and quickly got dressed. My backpack also lay next to my cloths, still carrying everything I had packed. “Alright time to take stock” I said to myself emptying my backpack.
One Bowie knife
3 cans of tuna and 1 can of smoked beans
2 sodas
3 changes of cloths
My flashlight
and one weird dark glass orb
“Wait glass orb” I said taking a better look at the completely black sphere. It was cold to the touch, realizing how cold it was I quickly dropped it. Expecting it to break I moved, as not to get any glass shards in my shoes. Surprisingly it just clanged off the ground sand rolled to the door.
“Weird” I sighed to myself quickly picking it up and dropping it in my backpack with the rest of my supplies. Slinging my backpack over my shoulder I began walking towards the door, I began to turn the handle, only to realize that the door was locked from the outside.
“Hmm how else can I get out” I said thinking, only other way out seems to be the windows and I’m not about to fall 4 stories to my death thank you very much. Looking out the window I didn’t notice the door slowly creaking open.
“Well good morning” said a soothing voice from behind. I quickly spun around and saw the same large white horse thing. “Oh sorry, didn’t mean to startle you” she said once again walking further into the room.
“Umm, it’s alright, what exactly are you” I said backing up further, at this point I was now leaning against the windows.
“Pardon me for not explaining myself, my name is Princess Celestia, and I am an Alicorn. What are you creature” She said with such a peaceful tone, it put all of my worries at ease.
“I’m a human and as for my name you don’t need to know, just call me Griffin” I said back, still unsure of my situation, she might have a soothing voice, but she could still be dangerous
“Very well, pleased to make your acquaintance Griffin, now please follow me” she said walking back towards the door.
“But” I was quickly cut off by a loud shatter, and was quickly thrown to the ground.
“Princess I caught the creature” said a voice above me.
“Not for long you don’t” I yelled back, reaching over my back and grabbing whatever was on my back. I quickly threw it over my back and pinned it against the ground. It was one of those winged ponies. I didn’t seem very large only coming up to about my lower chest in size. “Don’t move” Was all I said as the pony squirmed under my grasp.
Looking up from my captive I noticed one large spear hovering directly above my face. The pony wielding the spear had a white coat with a blue mane.
“I suggest you let my soldier go now, creature” every word containing hatred.
I begrudgingly obliged, loosening my grip on the winged pony. He quickly scampered away behind the line of spears that now point in my general direction.
“Enough Shining Armor” said Celestia running back into the room.
“But your majesty, this creature attacked one of my guards” Shining armor retorted.
“If I may int” I was about to say until Shining Armor cut me off
“Keep your mouth shut beast” He yelled back pushing the spear to my forehead.
“Enough shining let him speak” said the Princess giving me a wink.
“As I was saying, you guard attacked me. This window is broken because he smashed through it and threw me to the ground” I said putting extra emphasis on the fact that I as innocent.
“Well, umm, that doesn’t explain why you pinned him”
“Self-defense, it’s my instincts”
“Fine, by I’ve got my eye on you creature” with that Shining Armor called off his troops and exited the room.
“I am so sorry about what happened” said Celestia, almost mortified, but just as quickly regained her composure.
“It’s alright let’s just go” I grumbled back, allowing her to take the lead.
We just seemed to be walking down the hallways aimlessly, along the way any pony we say would cower in fear, or run. Am I really that terrifying to them, then again I am twice their size. The Princess herself only reaches my chin, not counting her horn.
“So, where are we going” I said trying to strike up a conversation.
“We are heading to the throne room, so I may introduce you to my sister Luna, and the elements of harmony.” She said back with a small smirk.
“Alright then” was the last thing I said, the rest of the walk was short and rather entertaining, watching all of the maids and servants run and cower at my site was pretty funny. Finally we stopped at two very large doors.
“Please Griffin wait here until I tell you when to enter” she said opening the door with her telekinesis. Before I could even answer she had already entered the room and closed the door.
“Fine I’ll just wait here then, I guess” I said standing awkwardly against the wall next to the door.
“Damn how long do I have to wait” I moaned to myself, it had now been at least ten minutes. Finally after some time, I could hear the Princess shout “Come in”.
“Well here goes nothing” I whispered to myself, pushing the door open and gazing into the room. What I saw before me was another Alicorn, yet this one was slightly smaller than Celestia, it had a dark blue coat, with an even darker mane, it’s mane had white specks that seemed to resemble stars. Weirdest part was that it flowed freely looking at the Princess I also noticed her mane did the same thing.
Looking to the side of the dark Alicorn I noticed six other ponies. Two of which I recognized from spying on the town earlier, the pink one and the lavender one. As I came forward they all visibly cringed, one of them even passed out. It was butter yellow and had a long flowing pink mane. When I finally came before them they seemed to gawp and gasp at my form.
“Princess, what is this creature” said the lavender pony finally breaking the awkward silence.
“I believe he can answer your question” said the Princess motioning towards me.
All of the pony’s stares landed upon me once more. Except for one, it seemed more interested in my clothes than anything else.
“Umm of course, I’m a human, but just call me Griffin” I said trying to not seem shy.
This made the ponies gasp once again; it even made the lavender one’s jaw drop.
With saying this, the pink one launched up and landed on me, her momentum throwing my down to the ground.
“HIMYNAMESPINKIEPIEIALWAYSWANTEDTOTALKTOANALIENOHIHAVETOTHROWYOUAWELCOMETOEQUESTRIAPARTYITWILLBESOMUCHFUN” she said at the speed that can only be matched to the speed of a bullet.
“Pinkie get off of it, it might be dangerous” said a cyan colored pony; she also had the most colorful mane I had seen so far. She had every color of the rainbow in her mane.
“No silly, see he friendly” she said poking my nose with my hoof.
“I’m not going to attack anyone alright, if I was going to I would have already” I said pushing the pink mess off of me.
“Yawl mean any pony” said an orange pony with a blond mane
“Whatever” I said ”now can we please get introductions over with, I’m starving over here” I said clenching my stomach.
“Of course, Luna you may introduce you’re self, I know how badly you have wanted to meet our new guest” said Celestia motioning the smaller Alicorn forward.
Luna seemed to sqee as she trotted up to me. “Hello human, I am Princess Luna, Princess of the night. I look forward to conversing with you more as time goes on” she said with a noticeable wink as she walked back beside Celestia.
The next pony forward was Twilight “Greetings, my name is Twilight Sparkle. I cannot wait until you teach me more about humans, and human social norms.” She said, quickly trotting back to her place in the line
Up next was the rainbow manned pony, she seemed to have a determined yet worried look “Listen chump, the names Rainbow Dash, and I’ve got my eyes on you” she said, she quickly took off with her wings.
Up next was the Orange one “Well howdy, mah names Apple Jack, pleasure ta make yer acquaintance Griffin” Applejack said out stretching her hood, I quickly fist bumped her hoof as she made her way back into line.
Next was the one who seemed so keen on inspecting my clothes “Well hello there darling, my name is Rarity and I must ask, why do you wear so much black.” She said with a quizzical look.
“I use it to hide in the dark” I said bluntly
“Oh, well then darling you must stop by my boutique, I will make you some fabulous” she said while she fell back into her rank in line.
The pink demon was next. She quickly began to trot up but was quickly halted when I said. “Pinkie Pie, I already know your name, and yes I would love to come to one of your parties.” By the time I had finished my sentence, it seemed her sugar rush had kicked into overdrive, because now she was bouncing off the walls, literally she bound from one wall to another.
Last but not least was the yellow pony. She seemed very timid as she walked up to me. Trying to make her feel more comfortable I got down on my knees and came to eye level with her.
“It’s alright, there is nothing to be scared of” I said as softly as possible, she seemed to relax a little now and got a more determined look.
“M.. my names Fluttershy and would you like to help me with my animals sometime” she said squeeing out at the end, she turned away, with a blush more than recognizable on her face.
“I would love to help you with you animals Fluttershy” I said giving her a small hug, with that last bit she walked back to her friends.
“Well now that introductions are over with, I believe that we can get to breakfast” said Celestia motioning for the whole group down a hallway.
“So Griffin, anything that you want especially made, we know nothing of your diet” said Celestia as we walked into the dining room.
“No thanks, I’ll just have one of my cans of fish” I said fishing out a can of tuna. Right then everything went silent, the sound of hoof steps had stopped. I looked up from the can and saw the looks on the faces of the ponies around me. They seemed to be a mix of shock and disgust.
“What did I say?”
