"Are you sure this is such a good idea, Twi?" Applejack asked her magically talented friend. "One of us could get hurt, or worse!" It was late at night, probably about midnight, and all of their friends were looking for something to do. Rainbow Dash had suggested that they try magically induced hypnotism, something she had apparently tried with one of her unicorn friends before she was in flight school, and AJ didn't like the sound of the idea at all.
"Applejack, it'll be fine!" Twilight reassured her. "It'll be easy. All you have to do is sit there, and we will tell you what to do. When you hear the 'command'," she made air quotes with her front hooves, "you'll carry out the task asked. And if something goes wrong, which it won't, there's a fail safe for this spell."
"And that is?" Fluttershy quietly asked. "If you don't mind me asking, that is."
"Oh, it's fine, Fluttershy." Twilight responded. "It eliminates itself either a half hour after the spell is preformed, or when I preform a counter spell."
"Well, I guess that's okay then," Applejack said, still unsure of what was about to happen.
"Okay then. Who would like to be first in this test?" Twilight asked the group. "Rainbow, you have the most experience in this field, would you like to go first?"
She opened her mouth to say sure, when Fluttershy beat her to speaking. "Um, Twilight," she asked. "If it's all right with you and Rainbow, could I go first?"
Twilight raised an eyebrow in surprise. "Um, sure Fluttershy, but are you sure you really want to?"
She nodded to her friend. "Yes, I'm sure. Just, please don't make me do anything too embarrassing?"
The unicorn smiled to her shy friend. "You got it, 'Shy. If you would, just come here and face me. You should feel a tiny buzzing inside your head, and don't be scared if the scene changes a bit when you blink. That only means that it works."
The timid pegasus gingerly walked over to her friend. Twilight lit her horn with a bright magenta glow. Fluttershy let the glowing horn touch her forehead, and there was a bright flash. When her eyes were clear again, Applejack turned her head to find Fluttershy in a calm state looking towards Twilight with a magenta glow in her eyes that slowly faded.
"Alright!" Rainbow Dash said triumphantly. "Hey Fluttershy, run around in circle and act like a chicken!" She waited a moment and groaned. "Oh great, It didn't work! Twilight, can you cancel it out?"
The unicorn giggled, making Applejack confused. It hadn't worked, had it?
"Rainbow, that's not how it works!" She said. "The caster has to sent the commands, not just a random passerby! If a random pony got a hold of a hypnotized pony, think of what could happen!" Everypony shuddered at the thought. "Watch this. Fluttershy, you are the fastest flier in equestria. Even faster that Rainbow here."
Rainbow looked unimpressed. "Fine," she said. "Make her challenge me to a race around Ponyville. I'll beat her easy!"
Fifteen minutes later and one lost race, Rainbow sat down in the beanbag chair she had been in before grumbling about how she needed to practice more.
Applejack giggled to herself. It didn't seem so dangerous anymore, now it seemed... Fun! "Hey, sugarcube, may ah go next?"
Twilight smiled "I knew you'd come around AJ! Sure, come here, lets do this!" Applejack positioned herself were her pegasus friend had been a little bit ago. Fluttershy was now standing in the corner waiting for a command. "Ok AJ, lets do this!" She positioned her horn onto Applejack's forehead and performed the spell... Right when a door from upstairs slammed opened, and Spike the dragon shouted from the stairs.
"Hey, could you guys keep it down! I'm trying to sleep!" Twilight, surprised, looked up from the spell and it fired off the wall off the chair and hit Applejack square in the back of the head. She started to to blink fast, not knowing what had happened and could feel a tiny buzzing in her head start to gain power and then fade away.
Twilight started to panic. "Oh my gosh! What happened, what did I do this time? Dammit Spike, why did you have to do that!?" Hyperventilating, she had to get calmed down by rarity and Rainbow Dash, while Applejack started to regain her senses.
"What the hay?" She mumbled. Twilight stopped hyperventilating and turned to her farmer friend.
"Oh thank Celestia, your okay!" She said, turning to her other friends. "I, um, think that we should stop the hypnotizing." Everypony agreed to that, even Fluttershy who had regained herself.
"I think I'll go home now. It's getting kind of late, isn't it?" Twilight glanced up at the wooden clock that hung on the wall. It read two thirty in the morning.
"Yea, I think we should all go," Twilight agreed.
As all of the girls piled out of the library, Applejack looked around to see Pinkie Pie talking to Rarity, And Fluttershy mumbling to Rainbow dash and Rainbow trying to understand her.
She smiled to herself. She had such great friends, she wouldn't trade them for the world. She passed by a bunch of buildings and on the path that lead to her family's farm. It passed by the dangerous Everfree Forest, though she didn't care. Unless there were piles of rocks to get her hooves stuck in, she would most likely be able to take care of herself if something attacked.
"There she is!" The voice came out of seemingly nowhere. Surprised, Applejack looked around for a pony to have said it, but she found none.
"Who's there, little varmint?!" She shouted. There was a rustling in the bushes, and another voice spoke.
"She hears us! Jell, stop rustling so much!" Applejack was now confused. Jell? I don't know of anypony here named 'Jell."
"Who's Jell, and what do you want?" She asked. There was silence for a while and then, right when she was about to go on to Sweet Apple Acres, They spoke again.
"You can understand us?" It said.
Then another voice, this time with a southern twang to it said, "Of course she can, were one in the same!" The creature talking stepped out of the brush and revealed itself as a Timberwolf, making Applejack's eyes bulge. She took a step back, and it spoke again.
"Hello, Applejack. My name is Nim."
