Tremors of the clouds
Simple Bliss
Load Full StoryThe air began to pick up and a breeze began to form, small seeds whirled in the air making loops and tricks and the breezed teased and played. It eventually lessened gently and began rolling up the hill, bending the grass showing the pattern is took as if it was a giant walking along.
The wind gained speed as it rose up the lush green hills, once again carrying a trail of seeds until it reached a small flat plain him above. The wind laid to rest as it too wanted to witness the view to itself, one so beautiful to make any heart skip a beat, for next to the hill stood a large snow capped mountain. Jagged stones splinted out from all areas of its grey and silvery rock, has eyes wandered further up it became smoother and thinner yet still large, the top barely visible had trapped clouds that now circled around its tip, trying to hide itself away as if it was a hidden land high above. to the mountains right was a large plain of wild grass and a small dirt path way engraved into it, almost out of place yet it stood in perfect harmony to the scene, as if barely. The path winded its way round the bottom of the mountain where a large pass had opened up.
On the next slope a dip was make before a another hill rose, much similar to this on but smaller and less sharp angles, upon it sat a small stone building with a bronze statue sitting outside it, it was sculpted to show a weeping figure with a spear leaning against itself.
To the right was the soft curved edge of the hill was a small valley, cut right down the middle was a soft stream of water which was as blue as the sky itself, bending it's way through the valley cutting a small town in half. It stood of a few small wooden homes and a one larger building that rose with a tower. Further down was a small yet wide wooden bridge that connected the to plains of land, as if it was a stitch in a blanket of countryside.
The town bell began to ring out signaling the time, the sounds rolled up the hills and it seemed the wind also recognized the sounds and it began to pick up once more. As the sound rose up higher and higher into the hills until it started to make an echo in the mountain.
On the hill the grass started to ruffle as two cerulean blue ears perked up above the long lands of grass. The tips began to twitch and the final sound of the bells tolled out and the hills returning to almost silence. A head now rose with it's eyes closed, his dark mane blowing in the soft wind simply held still. The eyes opened to reveal dazed eyes of aero blue that didn't quite focus on anything but staring into an abyss of sky. He quickly shook his head and began to stretch his hooves and began to rise from his napping spot. He was able to rise to a sitting position before he began to let his mind wander off again.
As it he had been poked he snapped back into reality and finally rose fully from the grass, he let out a large yawn as he stretched once more, this time letting his wings unfurl. He began to stare off into the sky once more before staggering into a sprint, his mane and coat began to almost peel back as he gained speed, his wings outstretched and started to flicker at the changing of wind currents. He once again closed his eyes as he leapt into the sky feeling his wings beat and rise him into the cool air, the grass below started to bend and warp away from the cerulean blue pegasus as he to flew close to the ground.
As as quick as before he snapped back and his eyes opened once again, now he began to sway from side to side as if dance in the air, he flew over the sharp edge of the hill and let his wings close. He dropped like a pebble hitting the side of the hill with only a slight thud, he was unfazed as he simply turned to his side as if it was one large maneuver and began to roll down the hill towards the town bellow. Picking up speed he opened his wings once more and immediately was caught by the air again as he now glided with the speed he now had.
Sweeping low now he finally reached the town and began to slow down before turning into a small side street from the main plaza, still flying he was only at the height of the roofs as he began to flutter his wings to making him come to a hovering pace. A young yellow pony bellow waved a hoof to him as she passed by, she had two saddle bags strapped to her, both filled with carrots.
The blue pegasus landed just behind her and trotted out the opposite end of the alleyway into the small housing district of the town. Small wooden apartments were constructed on a straight street that led back out into the open fields, each side of the street had five apartments each three stories high lined up to each other. Each one had the same design at one time but each story had some kind of markings or artwork etched on, each with their own little story.
The blue pegasus stopped outside a dark oiled door with a two crossed roses painted above the door, he rested his hoof on them before opening the door. The inside was lit by the warm sun to reveal a stair well that lead to the next two floors, at the base of the first step was the first floor door where a simple brass number had been nailed in. It was the number twelve that had been nailed in, it was slightly worn yet still shiny as it hung slightly crooked on the door, next too it was a small painting of an apple which was oddly painted orange. The pegasus began to climb the thick wooden stairs, each step echoing through the building, he watch the wall as he climbed, a simple wallpaper was plastered to hide the frame behind it, it was a design of stars. He finally reached the first floor with his slow pace and placed his hoof on the door handle. This time the brass had been molded into the umber thirteen and instead of an apple painted upon the door, there was a bail of wheat instead with a cloud above it. He pushed the door open to reveal a large open room with small shadows being cast by the light that flooded the room.
To his left was a small kitchen with a log burner and to cupboards, to the center of the room was two couches centered to a chimney, at the back of the room were two doors with a small space separating them which was filled with a birch bookcase that held tattered and worn books, there appearance may of changed but the stories inside never lost their intentions.
The pegasus slumped on the couch and began to drift off to into his imagination, it wasn't long before his eyes became too heavy and began to shut themselves, his mind had escaped him once more as he thought about his dreams. A smile crept across his face as he remembered this certain dream, it was one he liked alot.
The sun had begun to set making the room glow in as the sun hit its golden hour, the sunset was beautiful in the valley as it crept lower and lower allowing the moon to slowly rise from behind the mountain. A large knocking was coming from the door awaking the sleeping pegasus.
"Arues Stream! Are you in there?" Called a heavy worn voice from the other side of the door. The blue pegasus stumbled from the couch and began to skip a little towards the door. He fumbled with the door with the door latch before being able to open it. He swung the door open to meet the gaze of a honeydew coated stallion.
Arues fixed his gaze with the stallion outside his door, a smile began to spread across his face as he leapt forward embracing the stallion in a hug.
"Uncle Thunder!" Arues released the honeydew stallion which now seemed to be gasping for air. He returned a smile to Arues as he took in one deep breath to regain himself.
"Ah, you have become stronger since my last visit, how is my favorite nephew?"
Arues began walking back into his apartment to allow Thunder in but stopped about mid turn and looked at his uncle.
"Favorite nephew? I'm your only nephew uncle."
"I know, means less competition for you Arues." Thunder chuckling away as he patted Arues on the back, Arues simply shook his head at the poor attempt of a joke.
"Its been about three years since I last saw you! How have you been? Since th-"
Arues quickly cut off the conversation as if he thought his uncle had finished talking, "I've been fine.... its been fine here in Fillyfields, I'm working as a weather pony here. Its only a small team of pegasi, only the three of us, our job works around the crop rotations," Arues make a quick half smile as he faced Thunder, waiting for some kind of response from him.
Thunder huffed a sigh and sat down on the couch, some what disappointed at Arues's avoidance to his question, he would simply have to let it go for the time being.
Arues's cracked smile began to fade as he stood to the back of his uncle, watching his head slumped as if somepony had placed a boulder on it. Arues's head to began to also slump from grief as he walked round to seat himself in a chair opposite Thunder. Arues started shifting his head hoping Thunder would start up a conversation for the silence that hung in the room began to sadden and disturb Arues, sadness was sweeping over him as a tear began to roll down his cheek. Thunder's head perked up at the sound of Arues's sharp breathing, "Look I didn't want to upset you Arues, i was just checking everything was alright" Thunder gave that special kind of smile that however dark or sad you where, it would still make you slightly happy, even for a moment, but it was enough.
Arues lifted his head to show dampened red eyes, his gaze didn't meet Thunder's. "It's fine uncle, I guess it will always be hard...... but how long are you staying in Fillyfields this time?".
Thunder was heavily relieve his nephew had calmed down quickly, he turned to look out the window that over looked the fields behind the house. The sun was barely on shining over the tip of the hill creating a crimson red red sky that almost resembled the colour of petals, a few thin clouds were stretch across the sky making a dark grey colour as night approached. Thunder now turned to Arues to give his verdict, "Well nephew I was think of just staying here and work in the smelting sheds, I've had enough of working as a cargo pony for those griffins"
Arues's ear perked straight up as he heard his uncle's answer, "Your, your staying from now on!" A smile began sweeping back across the young pegasus's face, he leapt up and once again embraced his uncle into a tight hug. "You promise uncle?", Thunder now gasping for air once more let out a small sentence, "Only if you let go of me....". At once Arues released his uncle and let out a joyful laugh as he forgot what had transpired just minutes ago.
Thunder also began to smile as the final glints of sun light shone through his mane, a largely comforting sight to Arues's, his uncle smiling again. Thunder looked over his shoulder to the now faded light of day and then turned back to Arues, "This has been one eventful day, what you say we hit the hay and then you can make me some breakfast in the morning". Thunder began to laugh as Arues locked the apartment door, "Oh I suppose uncle, seeing as your here, but only this once!", and with that the Uncle and nephew laughed as they entered their separate rooms to end the day.
Outside was another story though, earth ponies began to trot in from the fields with tools carried in their hooves or stored into saddle bags. A whole variety of colours were dotted in the street, each pony arriving at their own doors and for some families were waiting to embrace them and for others they simply dumped their tools into their homes and continued on to the town center.
Now that night had fallen the street lamps had been light revealing the roads once more, the center of the town was light differently however, the glass housing the candles had been tinted with a variety of colour, green and red mixed in the darkness and the combination floured onto the edge of streets that connected to the center.
The working ponies quickly cantered to the town center to find their friends as a building of to the side opened its doors, by far it was the most light building in the town. The ponies quickly flooded in until it was ready to burst, others remained outside where another small group of ponies arrived, they each wore a straw hat with a blue ribbon stitched into it. They carried with them saddle bags with each hiding a different object which created an odd impression on the bags. Cheers began to cry out at the sight of the the four straw hatted ponies, glasses clanged together as they once again returned into the open plaza of the village.
The four ponies straw hatted nodded to each other and threw off their hats to reveal each one of their horns, each glowing with different auras. They began to stomp their hooves in unison and bopped their heads as their saddle bags levitated off their backs and out of each bag came a trumpet that floated its way to three of the unicorns all the while still stamping their hooves in perfect time and with the same precision the trumpets began to cry out the hooves sounding one beat while the trumpets had their own flow. The three trumpet unicorns began to sway from side to side while playing until they held onto a single note and let it fade, letting the sound of their hooves grow louder, the remaining unicorn moved forward. A light pink coated unicorn, her cutie mark easily visible represented a silver pegasi wing with a song note in the middle. The admiration only lasted a second as she began to sing in a velvet voice that caressed every ear that it touched, the plaza fell silent with the only sounds being a the hoof beats and a voice. The first verse ended and the trumpets started up once again all the while the constant beating of hooves were made. Her voice cried out louder above the trumpets to sing the chorus, the crowd also attempted to sing along, the sound echoing across the valley much like the wind. The song carried on verse to verse and the crowd cheers and sung along to each one until the end notes. The stomping fell silent and only one of the unicorns played a slower piece on his trumpet, then without warning the two other trumpets picked up the previous fluid tune as the vocalist sang her final chorus, for this the crowd remained silent until the end of the song then let out a huge cheer.
The plaza was in full swing after to working day the moon hung clearly above giving the whole valley a silvery tint, the nightly singing carried on for a few more hours until the band packed up all in unison and all bowed to their crowd. The crowd of ponies including the band flooded back into the housing district with large smiles spread across their tired faces, at this point of the night they where exhausted and some stumbling from too much apple cider. This conditions of the town ponies meant they had failed to notice a cart was just finishing being unloaded into an apartment block. The crowds all gradually make it into their homes, by then the cart had been quickly emptied and still remained unnoticed even to the other ponies living in the apartment, they just heaved themselves inside barely still awake by this point.
Finally the town was asleep and all was peaceful and quiet, even the crickets had let their legs rest from making their own songs. The moon now sat night above barley moving, it was now the guardian of this sleeping village, to protect it from any dangers that would lurk in the dark, thankfully there was no such deathly danger tonight for the moon to cleanse.
