CHAPTER 1
Creative Spark sighed as he looked up from his day's hard work, rubbing his eyes. He looked up at the old grandfather clock in the library’s basement; it was nearly eight o'clock in the evening, and he’d been in the basement for about two and a half hours now. He started up the stairs so he could go for a walk. He liked taking walks; he found that it helped to ease his troubled mind. When he got up the stairs and opened the door, he was surprised to see the owner of the library, Twilight Sparkle, standing there.
“Oh,” Twilight exclaimed, “I was just going to go down and get you, you’ve been down there for quite some time.” she said.
“Thanks for thinking of me... I was just about to go out on a walk, would you like to join me?” Creative Spark asked shyly with a smile.
Twilight gave him a smile in return. “Sure, I suppose as long as you’re offering. It would be nice to get out of the house for awhile.” she said still with a smile on her face. Creative Spark went over to the door and held it open for Twilight.
“After you, Miss Sparkle.” He said with a slight comedic bow.
Twilight giggled, “Why thank you, kind gentlecolt.” she said with a curtsy of her own. She turned back into the library and called out, “Spiiiike!”
“Yeah Twilight?” the baby dragon answered as he went over to the railing on the second floor.
“Creative Spark and I are going on a walk, so you’ll have the library to yourself for awhile. And please don’t make a mess of the place while we're out.” Twilight said to her assistant.
“Alright Twilight, have fun! You can trust me!” Spike said before turning back to go into the bedroom. Twilight then walked out the door with Creative Spark, who followed closely beside her.
“So, where to?” Twilight asked.
“I have a place in mind that has a nice view.” Creative Spark answered confidently.
Creative Spark began to walk along the dirt path with Twilight following right next to him, a little confused as to where he might be referring to.
***
After walking a long way with some occasional small talk between them, the unicorn mare and pegasus stallion had reached their destination, the top of a hill that overlooked Ponyville and gave a great view of the city of Canterlot. “Oh wow, you can see for miles up here!” Twilight exclaimed.
“Yep, it sure is nice.” Creative Spark replied with a grin.
“It’s more than nice, it’s magnificent!” Twilight said with the biggest smile on her face that Creative Spark had ever seen. “I’ll need to do some stargazing up here sometime.” Twilight continued.
“Sounds like fun, may I join you in that?” Creative Spark asked after a little nervous hesitation.
“Of course, and you could bring some of your stargazing inventions too!” Twilight said with enthusiasm.
***
After a long, enthusiastic conversation about the night sky, and it’s many beautiful attributes, the pair sat looking out at Ponyville and Canterlot.
“Such a beautiful night.” Twilight commented, her eyes lowering a little with sleepiness.
“Huh, oh... yes, it is.” Creative Spark said after being brought out of his thoughts.
“Are you OK?” Twilight asked as she turned to face him, concerned.
“Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just... fine.” Creative Spark replied with no emotion on his face.
“Come on, what’s wrong?” Twilight asked, still concerned. She could tell that something was wrong.
“I was just thinking about my parents.” He explained somberly.
“Oh, I've never heard you talk a lot about them before, I bet they must be nice.” Twilight said with a smile.
“Yeah they were...” Creative Spark said .
Twilight gave him a questioning look. “Well, how are they?” she asked.
“I don’t know, the last time I saw them was when I was... just a foal....” Creative Spark said as he choked up a little, painful memories rushing though his mind once more.
“What?! But... don’t you know where they are?” Twilight asked, a little shocked. She had never seen this side of Creative before, and it worried her.
“No, I don’t even have an estimated guess. Not even my inventions can help.” Creative Spark said frowning.
“How were you separated?” Twilight asked, afraid he might be offended.
However, Creative Spark began to tell her his story.
“When I was a foal, my parents and I were always traveling, never staying in one place for long. I didn't know why, and even if I had asked they wouldn't have been able to understand me, but I found out why one night. It was a night similar to this one, there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The stars, I remember how bright the stars were when it happened. The moon was so bright that I could see everything that happened that night... even though I wish I hadn't. We were staying at an old abandoned cabin. My mother and father had taken me outside to look at the stars, I've always loved looking at the stars. We were attacked after a short time by some large stallions dressed in black cloaks and wearing masks. My father told my mother to take me and get out of there as fast as she could while he held them off... she scooped me up and flew for her life, and mine. Some of the masked ponies had followed us, but my mother had gotten far enough away from them that she was able to find a place to hide me. Once she had me hidden, she took off to lead away the ponies who had followed us. She never came back. I was alone, cold, and scared. When morning came the next day, I was found by a unicorn mare. She was so kind; she took my back to her home and cared for me. She raised me like I was her own child. She became sick when I was eleven years old, she had gone to several doctors, but none were able to help her, so one day I decided to build a device to help find a cure for her. I got my cutie mark by building all of the devices to help her. But even that wasn't enough... she eventually died the next year, and I was so upset. I had lost my mother a second time. After her funeral, I began searching for my real parents, but I didn't find anything. Then I remembered the masked ponies. If I was spotted snooping around they would get suspicious, so I began traveling Equestria searching for them. Some ponies had heard of them, but none of them knew or even had an idea as to where or who they really were. I gave up looking for them just before I arrived here in Ponyville. After so many years, I doubt they even still exist.”
Creative Spark finished his story then looked over at Twilight, she had tears in her eyes and her hoof covering her mouth.
“I’m... I'm so sorry...” Twilight said, wrapping her forelegs around Creative Spark’s neck tightly. Creative Spark hugged her back and cried quietly into Twilight’s shoulder. Twilight slowly let go as she wiped the tears from her eyes. “I think I know how to cheer you up, Pinkie Pie is having a party at Sweet Apple Acres tonight and we were both invited. What do you say we go there and have some fun, hmm?” Twilight asked with a weak smile.
Creative Spark wiped the tears from his own eyes as well, “I’d like that.” He said, doing his best to smile.
***
When the two ponies got to Sweet Apple Acres, they were immediately greeted by the pink, poofy-haired earth pony known as Pinkie Pie.
“Hiya Twilight, Hiya Sparky, glad you could make it!” Pinkie said as she bounced happily up and down.
“Hello Pinkie.” Twilight said.
“Hey Pinkie.” Creative spark said, feeling a little better already.
“ Isn't it great that Applejack let us use the barn for the party?” Pinkie asked exuberantly.
“It sure is, Pinkie.” Twilight replied.
“Whoa, what are we doing just standing here, we need to get to the party quickly!” Pinkie said excitedly as she grabbed her two friends and rushed them off to the barn. The three of them entered the barn to the sight and sounds of the party. The party, of course, was already in full swing, as was expected of a celebration by Pinkie.
“ Isn't it just super–duper splendiforous!?” Pinkie asked with enthusiasm.
“Your parties always are, Pinkie!” Creative Spark said, admiring his surroundings.
“Thanks, well have fun you guys!” Pinkie said beaming before zipping off to another area of the party.
“She seems really happy today.” Creative Spark said, overwhelmed by her constant joy.
“When doesn't she?” Twilight asked, grinning.
“I suppose you’re right!” Creative Spark said with a chuckle.
“What do you say we go mingle?” Twilight asked.
“Sounds good, where to first?” Creative Spark asked.
“Let’s go find Applejack, I haven’t seen her recently and it would be nice to thank her for letting Pinkie host her party here.” Twilight said. Creative Spark smiled, “Alright then, we’re off to see Applejack.” He said before he and Twilight began walking through the crowd in search of Applejack.
***
After wondering through the crowd, Twilight and Creative Spark finally came across Applejack, who was leaning on one of the barn’s support beams with a piece of straw in her mouth.
“Hi Applejack.” Twilight said to her. Applejack looked over at the ponies coming towards her, “Howdy Twilight, howdy Creative Spark, what can I do ya for?” she asked.
“I just thought that we could talk, it was awfully nice of you to let Pinkie use the barn for her party.” Twilight said.
“It’s really no big deal, Twi. I’d let anypony use the barn, so long as I approve of what they’re doing.” Applejack explained.
“You’re very kind Applejack.” Creative Spark said.
“Aw shucks, you’re sweet sugarcube.” Applejack said blushing slightly.
“How’s Winona doing by the way?” Creative Spark asked.
“See for yourself.” Applejack replied before giving a whistle. After only a couple of seconds, Winona came bounding into the barn, going right up to Applejack and promptly sat right next to her, panting and wagging her tail. Her front legs had several mechanical attachments to them which allowed her once severed paws to function again after a farm accident several weeks earlier.
“Impressive.” Twilight said.
“It’s all thanks to Creative Spark here, if he hadn't built that doohickey for her, Winona wouldn't even be able to walk, much less run like that.” Applejack said while petting Winona on the head.
“I have to say, I didn't expect her to recover as fast as this!” Creative Spark said as he scratched Winona behind her ears. Winona stood on her hind legs while placing her metal paws on Creative Sparks chest and started to lick his face.
Creative Spark chuckled, “OK, Winona, you’re welcome." Twilight and Applejack giggled too at Winona's way of thanks.
“Well, I’m going to go find Rarity, she said that she had something to tell me, I’ll meet up with you later Creative.” Twilight said.
“Alright, I’ll see you later then.” Creative Spark replied. As Twilight started to walk away and disappeared into the crowd, Creative Spark hung his head and let out a sigh.
“You really have the hots for her, don’t ya?” Applejack said grinning from behind him.
“What?” Creative Spark said, hiding his surprise with a smile.
“Don’t deny it sugarcube; Ah see the way you look at her.” Applejack said with a smirk.Creative Spark sighed again,
“OK, you’re right, I won’t deny that I have feelings for Twilight... I just don’t know how to tell her, and I don’t want to scare her away.” Creative said with a frown.
“Just tell her how you feel about her, Ah’m sure she’ll understand.” Applejack said kindly.
“But what if she doesn't, I don’t want it to ruin our friendship.” Creative Spark said worriedly.
“Relax sugarcube, if it doesn't work out, there are plenty of other apples in the orchard for you.” Applejack said putting a hoof on his shoulder.
“But none of them are like Twilight, she’s smart, funny, kind, and when I talk to her about my inventions she actually understands what I’m talking about.” Creative Spark said.
“Just tell her.” Applejack said calmly but firmly with a small smile on her face.
Creative Spark took a deep breath and let it out slowly, “Alright... I’ll do it....” He said, his legs already starting to shake with nervousness.
“I’ll be right behind you.” Applejack said softly, still smiling sweetly.
Creative Spark smiled slightly as he looked at her, “Thanks AJ.” He said.
Applejack nodded and they began to walk through the crowd in search of Twilight.
***
When Applejack and Creative Spark found Twilight she was talking to Rainbow Dash, and she seemed to be enjoying herself. Creative Spark kept walking up to Twilight, Applejack stopping a short ways away where she could still be seen by Creative Spark. Applejack gave Creative Spark a wink as a silent gesture of good luck. Creative Spark nodded back at her giving her a smile that didn't show much confidence.
He reached Twilight and Rainbow Dash,“Excuse me, girls.” Creative Spark said as calmly as he could.
The two of them both looked over at him.“Hey Sparky, how’s it hanging?” Rainbow asked cheerfully.
Creative Spark looked over at her, “It’s going very well Rainbow, but, if you don’t mind, I need to tell Twilight something in private.” He finished his statement with a seriously.
“Sure, no prob, I’m gonna go find Pinkie and she what she’s up to, catch you guys later.” Rainbow said before taking off and flying away in search of Pinkie Pie.
“I’m sorry if I interrupted anything.” Creative Spark said.
“You didn't interrupt anything, we were just finishing our talk, so what was it that you had to tell me?” Twilight asked.
Creative Spark took a deep breath and then let it out slowly, “Twilight, I've been meaning to say this for a while now, so I’m just going to come out and say it, I love you Twilight Sparkle.” He said taking one of her hooves in his own.
Twilight stared at Creative Spark with her remaining front hoof covering her mouth, she had tears in her eyes for the second time that night, but these weren't tears of sadness, they were tears of joy.
“Oh Creative Spark, I love you too.” Twilight said as she hugged him.
Creative Spark hugged her right back, he felt like he never wanted to let go. While this was happening, Applejack gathered Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy to have them all together for supporting their friends. Rarity had pulled out a handkerchief and began to dab at her eyes. Pinkie smiled with a daydreamy look on her face. Fluttershy smiled sweetly with a tiny, happy squeak. Rainbow Dash just smiled with a look of satisfaction. Applejack had a proud smile on her face.
When creative Spark and Twilight ended their embrace Applejack came up behind Creative Spark, “I made sure everyone was here, good job there partner.” She said.
Once Applejack had said this Creative Spark noticed the others behind her and smiled at them,
“Thank you all for being here, your support means a lot, you guys are the best.” he said before walking over to them and giving them each a hug,
Then he went over to Twilight and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
Twilight smiled, blushing, then kissed him back.
After that, the seven ponies all went back to the party to have some fun, Twilight and creative Spark stayed together the whole night.
***
The party had gone quite late, by the time it was over it was almost two thirty, everyone left the party very tired. When Creative Spark and twilight got back to the library they were very careful not to wake Spike. Creative Spark was about to go into his room and crawl into bed, but twilight stopped him.
“Why don’t you come to bed with me tonight?” Twilight asked smiling.
“Are you sure you want me to?” Creative Spark asked.
“Sure, you’re welcome to.” Twilight said.
“Your bed is only made for one, but mine is made for two, how about we go to my room, That way if Spike wakes up in the middle of the night he won’t have a heart attack.” He ended his statement with a chuckle.
Twilight giggled at it as well, “Alright, I suppose that it would be more comfortable to sleep in a bed made for two.” She said thoughtfully as she walked into Creative Spark’s room.
Creative Spark followed her into his room. Twilight had already gotten into bed and made herself comfortable, Creative Spark joined her a few seconds later.
“Good night.” Twilight said sweetly.
"Good night” Creative Spark said before kissing her on the lips then turning off the lights.
Creative Spark fell asleep the happiest he had ever been in his life, he slept the whole night with a smile on his face.
CHAPTER 2
Creative Spark woke up the next morning with Twilight facing him, she was still fast asleep. Creative Spark smiled then kissed her. He got out of bed, careful not to wake Twilight in the process, and went out onto the library’s balcony to watch the sunrise. Princess Celestia had made today’s sunrise more beautiful than any other Creative Spark thought, the only thing that would have made this moment better would be if Twilight was standing right next to him. Creative Spark thought about going to wake her up, but decided against it, he figured that she would probably appreciate her sleep than a sunrise, especially after the excitement of the party last night. Creative Spark went back inside headed to the kitchen to make his favorite morning drink, caffeinated hot cocoa, he started every morning with a cup of it. Pinkie Pie had created this drink just for him since he didn’t drink coffee, he just couldn’t get past the slightly bitter taste of it without using an unhealthy amount of flavored creamer. He had told Pinkie about this dilemma, because she obviously knew how to perk herself up in the morning, and Pinkie had begun making all sorts of energy boosting refreshments for him to try each morning. Some of the drinks Pinkie had concocted either didn’t work enough, or worked a little too well causing him to jittery, anxious, or even as hyper as the pink mare herself. When Creative Spark got to the caffeinated hot chocolate however he didn't have any strange reactions, he just felt the way he wanted to, awake and focused, so now he a cup of it every morning. Once Creative Spark had his mug of cocoa, he went back out on the balcony and sat down looking out at the sunrise.
***
Sometime later, Creative Spark went back inside and began making breakfast for Twilight, Spike, and himself. During his time at the library Creative Spark had made a mental note of what Twilight and Spike liked to have in the morning. Just then, Twilight walked into the kitchen.
“Good morning, Twilight.” Creative Spark said cheerfully.
Twilight looked at him tiredly but smiled, “Good morning, are you making breakfast?” she asked before letting out a yawn.
“Yep, is there anything special that you’d like me to make?” Creative Spark asked.
Twilight seemed to think about it before replying, “No, whatever you make will be fine.” she said before walking over to the kitchen table to sit down.
Creative Spark went back to making their breakfast.
***
After eleven o'clock, Twilight and Creative Spark went down into the basement to work on Creative Spark’s newest invention.
“Well, here it is.” Creative Spark said gesturing to the device on his work desk.
“What is it?” Twilight asked curiously tilting her head to one side.
Creative Spark smiled, “Let me show you.” he said taking the device and strapping the device to his left foreleg, pressing a button to power it up. “Alright now it should work, Twilight I need you to shoot at me with a blast spell.” Creative Spark said.
“What, are you crazy?! That could seriously injure you...!” Twilight exclaimed, but before she could finish her statement Creative Spark walked over to Twilight and gave her a kiss right on the lips.
“Hey, I’ll be fine trust me, I Pinkie Promise that I won’t get hurt.” he said giving one of signature reassuring smirks.
Twilight still looked unsure about it but she eventually gave up and sighed, “Alright, but if anything goes wrong it’s your own fault.” she said matter-of-factly.
Creative Spark backed up to the wall, “OK, fire when ready Twilight.” he said confidently.
Twilight gulped, and then began to gather energy for a blast spell, when she had it ready she released the spell.
As the spell came closer to Creative Spark, he hit a button that created a shield of energy, Twilight’s spell hit the shield with some force and then disappeared as it was absorbed by the shield.
"Wha-what happened, my spell... it's just... gone!" Twilight exclaimed with a look of complete shock on her face.
"Exactly, my device did precisely what I was hoping for, the shield's energy can absorb the power effects of a magic spell, now watch what I can do with it." Creative Spark said with a smirk.
Creative Spark turned towards the back wall of the basement where there was target board on the wall pointing the device at it, he pressed one of the other buttons on the device. As he hit the button a beam of energy shot out from it hitting the target board, destroying it.
"Wow!" Twilight exclaimed.
Creative smirked with a look of satisfaction, "Bull's eye." he said proudly.
Twilight ran over to Creative Spark and threw her forelegs around him, "It work's, it really works!" Twilight shouted excitedly then kissed Creative Spark on the cheek.
"Of course it works; I designed and built it." Creative Spark said laughing.
***
Twilight and Creative Spark decided to go out on a picnic at the same spot they had gone to the night before.
"Oh my, it's even more beautiful here during the day." Twilight said admiring the flora around them.
"Yes it is, I often come up here to think, study, or relax." Creative Spark replied.
"I can see why, it's so beautiful and peaceful here." Twilight said.
Creative Spark laid out the picnic on flat area and set everything out.
***
"This was nice." Twilight said after finishing the last of her daffodil and daisy sandwich.
"I thought you'd like it." Creative Spark said with a smile as he was laying down on his back with his forelegs behind his head, wings spread out, and his eyes closed.
Twilight went over to Creative Spark and laid down beside him. The two ponies were blissfully unaware that they were being watched.
