It was a cold and cloudy winter day as all the ponies gathered around town square to get their uniforms and their assignments for Winter wrap up. As the team captions were talking with Twilight Sparkle and the Mayor the teams waited talking among themselves. Rainbow dash flew up to the Pegasus ponies waiting in the clouds. She told her crew to head north to gather all the birds who flew north and bring them back. She let all the other ponies leave but Derpy. She held her back to explain which way she needed to go. The last three Winter wrap up she went East, West, and South. Rainbow Dash had pointed up symbolizing north. Derpy looked up and saw Cloudsdale and the she looked back at Rainbow Dash and thought “ Wait I’m suppose to fly into Cloudsdale?” and before she could get a single word out Rainbow Dash flew off “If it’s what Rainbow Dash wanted.” Well instead of going north she went straight up into Cloudsdale and crashed landed into the snowflake department. She landed on another pony in a lab coat who was putting way snowflakes for next year. He was a Pegasus pony with a white coat and a light blue mane and tail to match. His eyes were a sparkly sapphire blue.
He stood up and looked over at Derpy as his hate and anger quickly vanished and was replaced with a filling of joy and love as he stared at her. “Are you okay miss?” his voice was a soft mellow town for someone like him.
“Yep I’m okay” Derpy replied while pulling her head out of a bucket. She sat down looking at him her eyes were a sunflower yellow. His eyes couldn't leave hers as she got up and walked over to him “I hope I didn't hurt you I didn't mean to” she looked at her feet feeling like a huge disappointment and was waiting for him to yell at her.
“I’m fine miss may I have your name?” he wonder as she looked up to see a smile on his face.
“Derpy my name is Derpy yours?” she was hesitant at giving her name to him. Her mane was a light sunflower yellow lighter than her eyes as her coat a light blue that almost match the clear sunny skies.
“Well my name is Winter Berry” she smiled and looked at her and blushed as he rubbed the back of his head “Would you like to go on a date or get some muffins and drinks?” he looked away.
Her head sprang up quickly and her eyes were glowing as he mentioned muffins “Sure I would love to get muffins” she smiled back “at Sugarcube corner?” she added before Rainbow Dash flew up behind her tugging on her tail.
“DERPY! I told you to fly north not straight up” Rainbow Dash yelled and Winter stepped in and looked back at the sadden Derpy “sure Sugarcube corner it is” he spoke softly raising her hopes as he walks off and before Rainbow Dash pushed her off the clouds. Winter just realized that she never gave him a time to meet her; he would just half to fly by the store every day and wait for her. He waited ten days for her until one lovely spring afternoon, the sun was up and shining brightly as the birds were chirping and there was a warm breeze. She walked up to the store as she noticed him sitting alone at a table in the far corner of the left.
“Did I make you wait long?” she asked sitting across from him. He looked up and smiled as he shook his head “No you did not” he smiles as Pinkie Pie brings a blueberry muffin and a banana nut muffin and Derpy's eyes lit up as muffins were brought to the table.
“I hope you don’t mind but I ordered you a muffin” he smiles as she nods at him not paying attention to what he was truly saying. She didn't want to, listen every pony made fun of her because she was different, and she didn't want to hear it from him or anyone else while she was enjoying her muffin.
“Are you okay miss?” he said to her trying to break the silence in the store. She darted up and nod with her mouth full of muffins.
Every other pony was staring at them both thought the window and from the back of the store as Winter smiles finishing off his muffin and stands up walking over towards her “Would you like to go for a walk Miss Derpy?” he held his wing out trying to be as polite as he can. She took his wing as they walked out the door and past every pony with a shock on their face. He led her towards a hill with a large old weeping willow sitting on top creating a large shadow they can sit under and enjoy the rest of the day.
After hours of silence Derpy looked over at him and coughed a bit “So why do they call you winter berry?” she questioned as his eyes blinked he never had anyone asked him about his past.
“Well my parents owned a farm that grew berries all types of barriers and we would turn them into sweet jam or sell them as is so people could make their own jam. Well I wasn't named right away; my parents didn't know what to call me. Well one winter I loved the snow a lot where I never wanted to come in, I just wanted to stay and play all day and night. One winter my dad took me out and showed me some very special berries that were blue and only grew in the winter only. They made the perfect drinks to go with the Zap Apples that came from Granny Smith’s farm I always wanted to grow them so my parents named me winter Berry and I got my cutie mark then to but the farm was sold and I went to work as a snowflake worker. So what do you do miss Derpy?” he quickly changed the subject as if he got too deep into his past she might find out that his brother was Soarin Wonderbolt.
“I deliver mail” she was quick to answer. Her feelings were getting in the way of her thinking clearly. She never had anyone spend so much time with her on one day and tell her the complete history of their life to her either. He was different from the other ponies she had ran into in her past. The sun was setting and he stood up “May I escort you home?” he asked with his wings out and she jumped up into the air “no! no! I can fly home alone” she quickly set off as he watched her for a few moments and flew up into the clouds where he called home.
She couldn't get him off her mind and he couldn't get her off his mind, it was love at first sight. He asked her out on a few more dates and she went with him but so ran into trouble when the Wonderbolts came into town for a show. Soarin the Wonderbolt of Rainbow Dash flew over to Winter and Derpy who were sitting in the crowed next to Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash herself, Rarity, Spike, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and AppleJack. Rainbow Dash was speechless as Soarin walks over to winter and puts his goggles’ up pushing his mane back and grins.
“So Little brother how are the snowflakes coming along?” he grins as he sits there in front of him and everyone gasps at the word little brother.
“Fine big brother, besides aren't you a little late to go and visit your fans” winter spat at him with a tone of hate. Derpy looked at him feeling something UN easy and she steps in between them and moves winter away from Soarin.
“Ooo got a little mare their brother?” Soarin laughs as winter bucks him in the jaw knocking him on his back with winter standing over him “That’s for leaving me, mom and dad alone to run the farm. You became famous and never came back to help” he turned his back on him as he walked away with Derpy by his side with all eyes on Soarin.
“Wait!” he yelled as winter stops and turns around “I wanted to come back and I did, mom and dad told me not to help they just wanted me to live my dreams they are the ones who feed you lies!” he walks over and gave him a picture making winter tear up.
“Forgive me big brother” winter hugged Soarin and Soarin hugged him back “I always have little brother” he smiled and looked over towards Derpy “sorry miss for making it seem like I was making fun of you” winter looked back at her “Brother meet my girlfriend Derpy” he announced to the whole crowed shocking them all.
“Really?” she had tears in her eyes and she went over and hugged him and he hugged back knowing that his feelings would be return.
Years went by and Derpy and winter got married and were living together in a nice home were the old willow tree use to stand. They had two kids a small filly name Dinky who looked just like her mother, and the other a Pegasus just like them. They named the young boy winter flight he had a white coat with a lime green mane and blue eyes. During the summers they love to take the kids over to see Aunt Rainbow Dash and Uncle Soarin Wonderbolt to teach winter jr. how to fly fast so he could take over as leader in the Wonderbolt show. Winter and Soarin were also patching up their relationship as brothers. They live happily proving to the other ponies that no matter what you are and who you are love is stronger then anything.
