War of the Equines Book 1: The Coming of the Changlings
The Everfree forest has always been a dark mystery for Equestria. So vast, and dark, how could anypony know very much about it? One thing was known for sure; it's not a good place to be.
So it shouldn't be suprising that terrible things would erupt from those woods. When green lights began flashing rythmicly, nopony had hardly noticed, let alone cared. Loud bangs would follow the flashes, almost as if they were the flashes of cannons. The local librarian, who happened to own a massive telescope, answered the few curious ponies with a simple, straight forward answer; "Don't be silly, why would they want to come out of the forest? If you ask me, the chances are a billion to one.."
For the next ten nights, green flares spurted from the center of the forest, into the air.
It's worth noting that for years now, Equestria has been the most powerful kingdom of the world. Equestria has stared death in the eyes numerous times, and every time, pulled out, and defeated the opposing force. Many have tried to over throw the great kingdom, and all have failed.
There are many strange creatures in the Everfree, most of them, haven't been discovered yet. Among them, a form of equin. Though similar in shape, these creatures are vastly different from the average pony. Creatures with imesurably superior minds. Hive-minded beings, linked to a single supreme leader.
Let's not look at these creatures too harshly. They have been thriving for as long as they could. Being able to feed, only on love, they've become a dying race. They'er only option is to leave the forest. This wouldn't go unplanned, mind you, things as horrifying as they, leaving the forest would cause great trouble, even if it was with peace in mind. You have to be in they'er horseshoes, to understand they'er sight on things, implying they had the materials for even the puniest horseshoe. Equestria however, is rich with love, and materials, and all the like. It was perfect.
Then came the night the first flare came towards earth. It landed near Sugarcube Corner. The next day, Twilight and I ran out to investigate. It was a cylinder, fourty feet across. Twilight feared there was somepony inside, but the heat stopped her, before she could touch the burning metal. And oddly enough, as ponies gathered around the crater, everything seemed so safe, and tranquil..
