"Mum, don't make me go! Don't leave me! DON'T!!!" I was scared. Who wouldn't be scared of a place called "The Center for Unwanted Children"? Wanted children, maybe. She had tears in her eyes,
"I don't want to Haylee! I don't! But... he..." She looked to my Father, I can't stand calling him that. He basicly deserted us, leaving her to raise my brother and I alone, and leaing her with 800 head of cattle to feed every winter, plus 400 of his friend's to custom feed while they were in Alberta, seeding alone in the spring, haying alone in the summer, and coming back in the fall to look at what a magnificent crop he had grown, then harvesting and talking about how much time he spent on that crop. He spent 2 months anywhere near that crop, and made us do all the work. And what do we get?
"A college education", he says. Only he doesn't pay for our college, our schooling, our medical bills. The Metis Federation pays for it all. Why? Because his great grand-mother was cree. Thanks Great-great-gramma Langan.
He gave me a cold stare, then looked to the entrance, a large black opening guarded heavily. I shivered and then clung to my mother tighter. I didn't want to leave her! I couldn't! She loved me, she told me she did. The center was for children who had no mother, or were unwanted by their mother. I had a mother, my mother wanted me! But my father did it. He made her turn me over. He said she didn't want me. He did this. I glared at him with the most hateful expression I could muster.
"I can't believe you would do this. TO ME! YOUR DAUGHTER! YOUR OWN FLESH AND BLOOD! I LOOK LIKE YOU, YOU'RE ALMOST EXACT IMAGE, AND YOU'RE GOING TO SEND ME AWAY!?!?!?" Its true, I do look like my father, and how could he send me away like this? Who knows what they do to kids in there. Nobody, mostly because everybody who went in there was never heard from again. I once knew a girl who was sent ther. Once. She was mentally disabled and her parents couldn't cope, so they sent her here. She was 7 years old. I shuddered again and held onto her. She held me close, then she cried into my shoulder. She was so small, only 5 feet tall. My tiny mother, having to give up her child, her baby. She hugged me closer, but i was grabbed from behind and pulled backwards.
"Mum! MUM! MUUUUUM!!! MUM, HELP ME! HELP ME THEIR TAKING ME! MUM!!! MUM!!!" Two strong men lifted me up and draggged me kicking and screaming for my mother, my mum, my only confidant and guardian. Almost through the massive doors I screamed for her again.
"MUM! MUM I LOVE YOU! DON'T LET ME GO I LOVE YOU! please..." She said nothing, but kissed her fingers and blew a kiss to me. She mouthed "I love you", then burst into tears and crumbled to the ground. He picked her up and threw her into the truck, then drove away as the doors closed. I broke down and cried as I was plunged into complete darkness. Taken away from the only life I had ever known. All my friends, I would never see them again. I was nothing.
They dragged me through the dark, dank hallway, and I thought about all that I had heard about this place. Everybody who had been sent here was never heard from again, so why should I be any exception? These facilities had become enormously popular over the last few years, approved by pro-life and pro-choice ralliers both. Nobody knew what happened to the kids who were sent her, and it was a favorable choice to abortion. Why kill your unwanted baby before its born when you can just give it away and never care again? Some optimistic people said they put you up for adoption, some said they were sold as slaves to rich companies, but other legends, the ones I believed, said that they killed the children who were sent there. According to some people, there were ten centers like this around the world. Some said there were 3 on each continent, and 1 on Antarctica, others say the one here is the only one. I don't know whether these are real facts or not, but in my opinion, there shouldn't be any. The sickest part of this operation? The payment. They will pay parents to give away their children. $50 for a healthy newborn, and $10 every year after that. My entire life is worth $190. Not a lot.
They continued walking, and I continued being dragged for what seemed like hours. Finally they stopped, and threw me into a room filled with other people. It was dark, with only a lamp dangling in the center of the room as a light source. Everybody was crowded around the center of the room, trying to stay in the light, to get away from the dark. Some people huddled in corners, crying, praying, sitting dumbstruck at the thought of being abandoned. I sat in an empty corner, and I'm not ashamed to say that I cried. I cried because my own father had forced my mother to desert me. I cried because I would never see anybody I ever knew ever again. I cried until I couldn't cry any more. I sat up and sniffled for a while, and heard another abandonee crying, probably for the same reasons I had. The voice... sounded familiar, almost like,
"Charon! Charon is that you!?" I called out for my friend, and I saw a lump in the oposite corner look up and around. I waved my arms, "Charon! Its me!"
"HAYLEE!" the lump jumped up as quickly as she could, which isn't easy for someone of her size. She ran towards me and we embraced, and new tears began to flow at the sight of my best friend. We cried again, and fell to the floor sobbing and laughing and hugging in a mass of self pity.
After a few minutes, a door opened, and a beam of pure white light flooded the room. Everyone blinked and sheilded their eyes.
"GREETINGS, ORPHANS." a voice boomed. The voice seemed familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. "YOU HAVE ALL BEEN CHOSEN TO BE HERE. CONSIDER YOURSELVES 'CATERPILLARS', BUT STEP INTO THE LIGHT TO BECOME THE BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLIES YOU ARE MEANT TO BE." People began to walk towards the light, and disapeared. I couldn't see what was past the door, all there was was more light. Charon and I stayed in our corner, hoping no one would see us, but a guard spotted us and pushed us towards the door. Not knowing what was on the other side of the door, I began to pray for forgiveness.
"Forgive me Father, for I have sinned-" My head was bowed and my eyes were closed asI prayed.
"None a' that!" a guard yelled, and he kicked us both through the door and into the light. We blacked out, and fell to the floor on the other side.
What seemed like days later, though it was only a few minutes, we both awoke. I tried to stand, and fell over. I felt different. I looked down to see I was different! Everyone seemed shocked to find themselves in a room filled with ponies. A couple of ponies around the room started dancing and laughing, and Charon and I giggled. So all the myths were just that, myths. The Center was a portal to Equestria! We all seemed to be pegasi, and we seemed to be in Cloudsdale, probably in the weather factory. A voice spoke,
"Greetings former humans! Today is your day! Welcome to Equestria, my name is-"
"OMG ITS RAINBOWDASH!!!" screamed multiple ponies at once. They were all obviously bronies in their former lives. But yes, it was indeed Rainbowdash, in all her cyan and rainbow glory. She scowled, but blinked and put on a forced smile. I found this strange, mostly because she should have basked in the adoringness of the fans. It was almost like she didn't want to be recognized. This made me feel very uneasy.
"Yes, I'm Rainbowdash, and welcome to Equestria, you all have a very special and noble purpose, and if you would all follow me through this door here, we shall continue with such purpose." and with that, she walked through a door. Everbody *giggle* everyPONY followed her, thinking that any place filled with ponies would be a nice, happy place, right?
Wrong. Charon and I stepped into a dark room again, and heard the sound of lud, clanking machines. Suddenly the doors begind us slammed shut, and upon beating on the door and even kicking it, we determined we were trapped. We heard laughter, thick with malicious intent. Everypony turned to see Rainbowdash flying high in the air and laughing evilly. Everypony shivered, realizing that this beautiful dream universe was actually a living hell.
"Ladies first." Shouted Rainbowdash. Charon and I tried to hide in the corner again, but Charon was ripped away from me by two guard ponies. They carried her, kicking and biting, to a large machine with straps and levers. I couldn't bear to watch as she was strapped in.
"HAY-" but she was cut short by a powerful jolt of electricity, which killed her instantly and drained the color from her body. I cried for my lost friend, and looked as they dumped her lifeless body down a chute next to the machine. Suddenly I was torn from my greif, and pulled towards the dreaded machine.
"NO! NO! NONONONONONONONONONONONO!!!! MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

(This is where I woke up. I really need to stop doing scary shit before bed. Thanks for reading, but my "Dream Bible" doesn't say anything about being turned into a pony and being killed immediately. My friends said Rainbow Factory wasn't even that scary, but screw you guys, it terrified me.)
