“Hello, I am Bree! I am a fully pink unicorn from the tip of my tail to the last hair on my mane. Meaning that pink is my favourite colour in the entire world! My cutie mark is two lollipops crossing over each other in an X pattern; and this is the story how I pinked the world. Now enjoy!”
It was a warm spring day, and it has been around eighteen days since Ponyville’s last Winter Wrap Up. I was on my trot to work as I usually do, but this day was different. I took another route and I had to walk past Sugar Cube Corner. That place is not so bad, I mean the service is good and they do it quick; but they ruin small businesses like the candy shop I worked in, Littlest Candy Shop.
“Why are they so popular” I said to myself.
“I think… no… I know I can make better candies than them” I continued. I then sighed and continued my trot to work. The boss does not mind if I arrive late because we get so little business anyway. So, I arrived at Two o’clock sharp. Five minutes after my shift started. I saw the boss, Mr.Bakenswit locking the door. I ran up to him.
“Why are you locking the door? I am here for my shift.” I asked confused. He sighed and turned to me.
“We have to close up shop dearie, I just cannot afford your wage and feed my family” He said in a sad tone. Then he pulled out an envelope.
“This is your final paycheck… It’s been great working with you dearie…” he said in a slump, and I could swear I saw a tear run down his cheek. So I did the only thing I could think of to save the business and my job.
“Mr.Bakenswit, keep the store open one more day… please… I will get some customers or my name is not Bree” I promised him even though I was not sure if I could keep it. Then he looked at me and smiled.
“You always work hard dearie, even if you arrived late; but this shop has sunk just like the Trotanic.” He said as he removed the key from the lock to finish locking up the store. I knew that words alone wouldn’t get to him so I used the oldest trick in the book. I made my eyes grow big and I made my lip quiver. I knew that Mr.Bakenswit could not resist this face.
“Okay… dearie… one more day… that is it.” he said in a stern voice. I jumped with excitement and started to run into town.
“I won’t let you down Mr.Bakenswit, I promise!” I yelled to him. He looked at me and smiled. Then he unlocked the store. I knew my first goal was to get some paint. I used the paycheck I got to buy five buckets of paint. They were all pink, different shades of course. I also bought a large piece of paper to paint on. I wrote in big words LITTLEST CANDY SHOP! BEST CANDY IN EQUESTIA! I thought that would drum up business.
“Now… how will I get this up on the town hall?” I asked myself. Right outside I saw a yellow pegasus wandering outside. The first thing I noticed though was her long pink mane. I ran outside the shop.
“Hey! You! Over there with the pink mane!” I shouted towards the pony. Then she turned around.
“Are… you talking… to me…” she said in a quiet voice. I nodded.
“Come here, I need your help” I asked. She then buried her face in her mane and mumbled something that I could not hear. I then asked again and then she started to walk slowly backwards. I then realised that I might be asking a little bluntly so I changed my tactic.
“Sorry, I’m being rude. My name is Bree and I need help carrying this sheet of paper to the town hall. Can you help?” I asked trying to make a sweet sounding tone but just sounded like normal me.
"Okay..." she said in a still very quiet voice.
“Great! What is your name anyway?” I asked. She looked at the ground and dug at it. Finally she spoke.
“Fluttershy…” she said in a scared tone.
“Okay! Fluttershy, you take this end and I will take the other.” I told her. She nodded and picked up one side of the paper. It took a good five minutes with me trying to get there fast and accidentally knocking her over many times. When we got there, a lot of ponies were gathering around for a meeting.
“Fluttershy, could you fly up with the end you are holding and place it on the balcony?” I asked of her. She seemed to follow what I said. I’m not sure if it’s because she was afraid of me or she is just really helpful. I use my magic to lift up the other side.
“Everypony will see this after the meeting breaks, and we will get business!” I said with excitement. I had plenty of paint left and nothing to do with it. So, I made up my mind.
“I am going to paint the town pink!”
My goal wasn’t a big one. Just use the extra paint and paint cans to pain houses and objects pink to advertise the shop, nothing big. That was at least what I thought.
“Let’s see, I have about four cans left… that should be able to cover a few buildings.” I said to myself why Fluttershy just looked at me. I then turned to her.
“Oh, and thank you for your help Fluttershy. I really appreciate it.” I told her. She gave a small smile and walked away. I then trotted back to the store to pick up my remaining paint. I got back quickly, probably because Fluttershy and I aren’t falling over each other. I grabbed the paint cans with my magic and set out on the town.
“That building looks good, but it needs more pink” I said to myself. I used my magic to dip a paint brush into the paint and started to paint the wall. When I finished, I stepped back to aw in my work. Sadly, it just didn’t look right with only one of the walls being pink so I got to work on the next one. After about twenty minutes I finally completed all four walls and it looked okay.
“It’s still missing… something…” I said to myself as I pondered what could I have forgotten to do. I looked up and saw the roof, as brown as it could be. It totally contrasted with the rest of the house. So, I grabbed the brush and set to work again. The roof took a lot less time than the walls, only about eight minutes. Then out from the building came two purple ponies and both had very light blue mane and tail. Bree recognised one of them as Flitter, a regular at the Littlest Candy Shop, one of the only regulars.
“Hi Flitter!” I shouted towards them. Both of them turned to me and saw me with the paint brush. Then they saw their house and they both became shocked.
“How do you like it? Did it myself!” I said in my naive. Both of them said nothing and just looked at me with their mouths open wide.
“Okay… You can thank me later” I said to them as I trotted away. While both of them still in shock about what happened to their house. I moved onto the next house. It was a dull grey one so I knew it needed improvements. Mainly, pink. So I grabbed the paint and grab the brush and got to work. I finished this house in sixteen minutes which was a new record for me. I wanted to see the happy face that saw his new house, but I had work to do so I couldn’t stop.
I painted for hours that day, when I finally made it back to the shop it was nightfall. When I walked in their were a crowd of ponies in the shop. Mr.Bakenswit was over worked and needed help. I got behind the counter.
“I don’t know how you did it Bree… but it worked. You are getting a raise, dearie!” said Mr.Bakenswit after he caught his breath. I smiled and happily did my work, thinking about all the happy ponies with their new pink houses. I realised that I forgot to paint my house…
“At least I still have one paint can left…”
