Chapter 1: Arrival
It was a glorious day in Ponyville; everypony was going around doing their chores, working, chatting, and just being overall happy. There were no complaints in any way possible and it just seemed like a normal day. Normal to everypony except the adventurous Tera.
Tera was a youngish mare around the age of 15. Her sense of adventure never stopped, her cutie mark was course of that, in the shape of a compass, and it even got her into binds and tough spots. These included going into forbidden areas of Ponyville, such as the eerie Everfree forest. As much as the other ponies told her not to go, her sense of adventure was outmatched by no one.
She ventured through the Everfree forest many times before, finding new secrets every time she went. One time she found a long lost temple that has lain in ruins for centuries, not touched by any pony hoof. There were also times where she would have to fend off timber wolves by herself but usually shed escape with only minor cuts and bruises.
These ventures were amazing to her, but she couldn’t quite satiate her thirst for adventure and this would be her own demise.
Tera was at the border between Ponyville and the Everfree forest, packed fully for a good long trip. She was determined to finally quench her thirst and decided that she would spend a full month in the Everfree forest. Nothing could stop her, not even her friends.
“Tera wait! Don’t go yet!” a stallion called out behind her, full sprint toward Tera’s position. She turned around, her light blue mane flowing in the wind and her determined Green eyes staring at the stallion that ran up to her. Her white coat was barely visible through the bags and gear she held on her back.
“Tera! I’m so glad I found you before you went in there…”
“Ketan, you know that neither you nor the other ponies will stop me from this. You’ve tried and tried before and it won’t make a difference. I love you all but this is something I must do” Tera explained
“But Tera, we worry about you every time you go into that evil place. Please just come home and forget about this. A trip or two is fine but a whole month!?”
“Ketan please, you know I’m fine on my own. I know how to find the plants I need to eat and shelter is no problem as well. There is no need to worry about me.”
“Please Tera….”
“Enough Ketan!” Tera snapped. “I’m doing this and there is nothing you can do to stop me!”
“Well I guess your right Tera, just please be careful?” Ketan’s eyes filled with worry as he stared into Tera’s Green eyes. Tera just smiled and nodded and with a full trot into the Everfree forest
“Bye Ketan! Tell everyone else I said bye! I’ll be back in a Month!”
“Alright Tera, I’ll tell em.”
And with that final conversation sealed her fate. If she only was to listen to the stallion Ketan she wouldn’t have been in her current predicament.
Tera found a nice place to settle, a clearing in the middle of the Everfree Forest. She would normally come here in order to gain food since there were eatable barriers as well as other plants that were non poisoness. Immediately she began work on a Shelter.
“Alright now I’ll need some sticks as well as large leaves to keep the rain out. Ill also need to set up an alarm system just in case those damn timber wolves decide to make a snack of me.” She went off on a tangent talking spree after this, discussing with herself weather or not to gather food now or later, her adventurous spirit ever-growing.
She worked for hours on end, getting ready for her months’ stay in the dark forest. She gathered enough food to last her about two weeks as well as a makeshift shelter to keep the rain out. She even made an alarm system around the boundaries of the clearing with old cans she found in her pack and vines that grew on the trees around her.
With a sigh of relief she looked around at her work, gazing around the clearing and surveying every little detail so she would know where her shelter is located. The trees all around the Everfree forest grew tall and these were no different, vines and leaves the size of a house grew on each one making the forest floor very dark. The only light that seeped through was in the clearing she was in now.
The grass as well was burnt to a crisp all around her. It was hard and didn’t show any signs of life which made it eatable in some cases. The grass also harbored mushrooms a plenty, most dangerous to eat but some were safe.
“Alright then. This seems like the perfect place to stay for right now.” She said with a yawn. “For right now however, I think I’ll get some shut eye. I’ll look around in the morning”
With a small trot she entered her cabin and made her own bed made out of a sleeping bag and some dead grass under her backside. She cuddled up inside the sleeping bag and slowly closed her eyes, leaving this world and entering her own.
Little did she know though, this clearing is open and dead for a reason. Every month a portal opens to a dimension known as Lordran, Land of the dead. She picked the poorest time as well as that night is the night the portal opens.
With a large black flash a wormhole opens and silently drags Tera into this world. Still asleep she is unawares of the danger she is in. For in the land of Lordran is a terrible place where friendship is nothing but a faint memory. Mercy is for the weak and death is all around. Tera will have to escape her mind and remember that everything is out for personal gain in this universe and even the sane will try and take by force what they can’t take by guile.
