I was never anything special, even by Earth Pony standards, nothing of great note or want or need, nothing to look at, nothing to talk about, nothing to desire. Failing to find anything at ground level I looked up, squinting into the clear midday sky.
I didn’t see how many there were, I didn’t even take in all the details of their forms. All I knew was that the mere sight of those mockeries of the equine form, with their black glistening bodies, soulless compound eyes and gleaming fangs, set off something deep and instinctual within me, time stood still for a split second as a vacuum in my lungs pulled more air than I had ever thought could fit in and I screamed bloody murder, almost feeling the adrenaline being injected into my veins as I bolted blindly away, leaping over my garden fence and away from these horrors.
My eyes were wild and my heart beat was pounding brutally in my ears as I ran, the sound of buzzing and angry hisses close on my heels driving me to run faster, my lungs soon burning as I fled blindly, gardens turning to fields, turning to forest, a steady agonising ache spreading through my limbs as I ducked and weaved through the foliage crying out in terror all the way, turning away every time I saw the dragonfly winged monstrosities pursuing me.
Some still sane part of my mind told me that I was obviously being herded but it was drowned out by my waning adrenaline rush as the rest of me screamed to just get away from these things, these predators.

I groaned pathetically one last time as I was carried over the treetops, darkness finally completely enveloping my mind.

I awoke with a start, shrieking loudly and flailing about like a trapped animal although I was not held down by any bonds.

I had no doubt been brought here by those things that had kidnapped me and only Luna knew what they would do with me.

Perhaps this was all some sick game and this was just a continuation of it.

I do not completely recall what happened next, I believe that I had reached a point of utter desperation that all I could do was attempt to flee. All I knew was that I was curled up in a ball, quivering pathetically in one moment, the next, in the midst of the beasts kicking and yelling, scrambling towards one of the many tunnels in a mad bid to escape, kicking and even biting at my captors.
Naturally, however, it took little to no effort for them to subdue me, holding me down against the cold stone and pressing their weight against my flailing limbs, their chilly carapaces making me shudder as I screamed and thrashed.
And then that was where things became more unpleasant than I could have expected.
I felt a weight against my back as I thrashed and one of the black beasts bit down on the back of my neck, uncomfortably so and firm enough to keep my head from moving, though they failed to puncture my skin. My breath hitched at the feeling and my mind raced, confused as to what was happening.
