Chapter 1: It Begins
It was the same nightmare. The one that never made any sense. It went like this; a pony cloaked in shadows walked up to
me, and said:
“Beware. Your ruin will come in the form of a mare you care for very much.”
“But who? And why are you telling me this?!” The figure only vanishes, leaving me dumbfounded from what it said. This time,
however, the figure replies. “Many have met their fate at the hands of this mare. I am merely warning you that you are next.”
“Oh bloody hell…WAKE UP!” A sharp blow to my face flung me unceremoniously out of bed. As I was still pretty much
asleep, the pain didn’t register. “Mmmuh?” was all I could get out. “Don’t give me that. We ‘volunteered’ to help Twilight
reorganize the library.” ‘Volunteered‘, as in ‘destroyed half the library’. Honestly, I’ve never seen a pony that angry before. I
finally opened my eyes to see Jay standing over me. “By the way, how are you not fully awake?”
“Cause m’ tired.”
“I mean how can you still be sleepy on a bunch of coals?”
Aaand cue pain.
After I had been put out (hey, those coals were HOT) and taken a cold shower (For obvious reasons), I found Jay in the
kitchen, where he was munching on a piece of toast. “So, are you awake yet?”
“Yea. By the way, laughing at me as I’m running around the room, ON FIRE, may I add, didn’t exactly help put me out, jerk!”
He shrugged. “Well, if I was on fire, you would…?”
“Put you out.” I deadpanned. “Huh. Well, I guess it’s just me then.” Sometimes, I really wish would murder him. My violent
thoughts were soon ejected from my mind as the clock struck eight. Jay looked at the clock, then at me. “Be sure to bring the
earplugs.”
“Noted.”

I shot up in my bed, panting heavily and sweating. These nightmares were getting to be just too much for me. I got out of bed
and went to the bathroom. After washing my face and combing my mane, I started thinking about those nightmares again. I
met a cute or handsome stallion, but in the end, they always got taken away, started abusing me, and every single time,
killed. How many coltfriends have I had, anyways? At least fifteen. I remembered my first one, Lucky Horseshoe. He had
been killed by Timberwolves when we went adventuring in the Ashhoof forest. I could still hear his cries of agony as he was
torn apart. I felt myself getting nauseous as I thought about it. No. This was a new town, and a new start. No more coltfriends,
no more relationships.
No more nightmares.
I walked into the living room, where my brother, Voice Switch, was reading the Equestria Inquirer. He looked up as I entered
the room. “So, sleep well sis?” I just walked past him towards the door. “Fine, thanks.” He sighed. “Having the nightmares
again?” My hoof froze on the door. “…Maybe…”
“Come here.” I trotted back across the room and sat next to him. “None of their death were your fault.”
“Yes they were! If they hadn’t met me, or I hadn’t asked for something, they would all still be alive!” I could feel tears
beginning to well up in my eyes. “Pyro…”
“And remember the sixth and eleventh ones? I burned them alive! WITH MY OWN POWERS!!!” I was freely sobbing now. I
couldn’t take it. I was a murderer. “PYRO!” I jumped at Voice’s sudden outburst. “Listen to me. They were all accidents, and
those two beat you to the point of you being too scared to control your pyrokinetics and fire magic. Don’t think you’re a bad
mare just because some bad things have happened.” My brothers calm voice made me feel a little better, but there was still
one more thing. “But what about Lucky?” Voice smiled a little. “He was always your favorite wasn’t he?” He was. Aside from
him being my first coltfriend, he was the nicest and most adventurous of all the others. His special talent was, well, being
really lucky, so he got to do things normal ponies wouldn’t even think twice about doing. Like going into that forest. “Yea.” I
still had a few tears flowing down my face, which Voice rubbed away. “You remember what he said every time you two went
out?” I did indeed. “‘No matter what, if I die out there, for whatever reason, I want you to but my death behind you and move
on in life, as happy as you’ve been with me.’ But, it’s just…”
“Hard, I know. But I’m sure he’d be tossing in his grave if he knew you were like this.” He was right. Me being all depressed
isn’t helping anypony. “Thanks, Voice.” I got up and briskly trotted to the door. “I just gotta keep on living for him.” I flung
open the door, paused a few seconds, then slammed it shut in a panic. Voice went wide eyed. “Pyro, what’s wrong?!” I
replied between gasps. “There’s…a stallion…out there. (wheeze) And… he’s…(gasp) the cutest…one…EVER!” I fell to the
floor, still panting. Voice just looked out the window. “Well, here we go again.”

"Well, that was strange." Jay said. A bright red mare just opened a door, looked at me, blushed, and slammed it shut.
Ponyville, capital of crazy. "Well, can't deny that now can I?"
"If you ask me, I think she likes you." Jay smirked. I laughed. "Like you, you mean?" Jay stood looking confused. I looked
skywards, where a yellow flaming blur was doing tricks in the sky. "Hey, Spitfire! Come here for a second!" We had met
Spitfire when Rainbow dragged us to a wonderbolt show, and since Rainbow was training to be a wonderbolt at the
acadamy, and she had saved her life at the young fliers competition, they had formed a nice freindship. The second Jay saw
her however, he had lost the ability to form a sentence.
And now to see if he could confirm my thought. Spitfire soared down, landing gracefully in front of me. "Hey, Colin. What's
up?" I had to hold back the evil smile. "Well, my brother wants to know if you'd meet him at sugercube corner later this week.
How about it?" She pondered the question for a second. Please don't let her already have a boyfriend! "Sure, I'm free on
sunday. But why isn't he asking me. He's right behind you." Jay was, indeed, behind me, jaw open, and staring in her
direction. "Well, he has a sore throat, but it's getting better. Should be gone by wensday."
"Well, alright. See you on sunday, Jay!" Spitfire flew off, doing a few loop the loops on her way up. Jay was now staring at me
with an expression of shock and worry. "What. Did. You. Just. Do." I chuckled. Isn't it obvious? I just set you up on a date with
a mare you couldn't hope to ask out yourself if your life depended on it."
Then he fainted. Revenge is a bitch, ain't it?
