A fresh start in Ponyville
Chapter 1
Firery Dawn
I stepped off the surprisingly crowded train in Ponyville, amidst a crowd of other ponies, who promptly scattered, leaving me alone on the platform. As I stood awkwardly there I spied a noticeboard off to the left of the platform,
“Sweet Apple Acres, looking for a pony to fill our spare room for the foreseeable, contact Applejack at Sweet Apple Acres today!”
‘Well, seems like as good a place as any to start” I thought, as my stomach began to rumble. “I think I better get something to eat first, and find where this Sweet Apple Acres is”.
Seeing the bakery, Sugarcube Corner, down the main street I decided to go in, finding myself face to face with a pink pony with wild poofy hair.
“Hey, I’m looking for….”
“AHHHHHHHHH”, the pony shot up and disappeared out the door, leaving a bewildered smile on my face.
“...um…”
“Hello dearie, are you looking for something?” asked the mare behind the counter he hadn’t noticed.
“What just happened?”
“That’s just Pinkie Pie”, saying it like it happened every other day
“Okey dokey, I wanted to ask where Sweet Apple Acres is”, my tummy rumbling right on cue, “oh, and something to eat”
Laughing, “I hear that dearie, here try these. And to get to Sweet apple Acres just follow the road out of town. Look for the apple trees, you can’t miss it!”
“Thank you, and thanks for the cupcakes”, I said beaming.
“No problem dearie, see you around”
“Bye!” I called back, leaving the shop
Walking down the street I couldn’t help but feel THIS is where I wanted to live, somewhere I could walk down the street without feeling awkward from stares, I wasn’t a Very Important Pony here, and I could just be ANYPONY I want!!! And I was enjoying it so much I just knew I couldn’t leave, not after feeling this freedom after living my “life” in Canterlot, where I couldn’t seem to be able to life a hoof to help without disapproving glances from everypony.
Before I knew it I was at the entrance to sweet apple acres, where I could see the most beautiful mare I’d ever seen bucking trees in the field. I shyly walked up to her and asked “hi, are you Applejack?”
“Ye’hah that’s me Sugarcube, what’s your name?”
“I’m Firery Dawn” ohmygosh did she just call me Sugarcube?? Maybe she calls everyone Sugarcube, “I’m new in town”
“I kinda figured that Firery, you haven’t met pinkie pie yet have you? She can be a bit…off putting”
“The crazy pink pony with the poofy hair?”
“Well…ah… be prepared to be surprised later then”, Applejack said with a smile on her face, “now why are you all the way out here? You here ‘bout the room?”
“Yep I am, if it’s still available”
“Well you’re in luck, it’s still here, is just show you where it is. Then you can move in when you want, just take your gear in, and then meet us in the barn for dinner later”
“thank you, that sounds great Applejack”
“oh sweet Celestia thank you” I secretly thought to myself, I get to stay here, with her, a large smile taking over my face as Applejack led the way towards the barn.
Applejack
“What the hay were you thinking” I muttered, pacing up and down my room, “just because you liked him when you saw him doesn’t mean he’ll feel the same. Well I guess I should be heading down to dinner so…” my train of thought derailing as I left the room and ran straight into Firery walking past my door.
“Oh hey Firery, do you want to meet the rest of my family now?” I said, trying to hide the awkwardness in my voice.
“Sure”
“So Firery, where are you from”, I asked hoping to get to know him better before the rest of the family saw him
“Canterlot”
“So are you just passing through then?”
“Nope, I’ve decided to start my new life here”
My heart skipped a beat as I said “well okay then Sugarcube. But for now, here’s the rest of the family. So this here is Granny smith” pointing out the aging green mare, “my brother Big Macintosh” a large dark red stallion standing up at the sound of his name,” and this here is mah little sis Applebloom”, the cute filly stepping forward indignantly,
“APPLEJACK, I’m a BIG filly now, I can tell him who I am without you needing to”
“She always does this now”, I whispered to Firery, He just gave the smallest chuckle and smile in response.
“I remember my sister doing that too” he whispered back
“EVERYPONY DINNER IS IN HERE IF YOU WANT TO EAT” comes Granny Smith’s screaming voice from the table, everypony hurrying to sit before she got asked again. You DON NOT disobey Granny Smith, she may be old, but she still has a ton of fire left in her.
“So what are you doing here Firery” asked Applebloom through a mouthful of greens.
“Applebloom” I scolded “don’t talk with your mouth full, use your manners”, earning myself a round of open mouthed stares from round the table, my face glowing crimson.
Firery answered oblivious to all this “I moved here to start a new life”
“What will you do for a job” damn she was full of questions tonight.
“Well, I was hoping I’d be able to help your sis out on the orchard” he said, turning round to face me.
“Ah, yeah, sure” my face hotter than ever, “well I’m plum tuckered, ‘night everypony” I trotted up to my room, determined not to answer any awkward questions tonight.
