Twilight's Living Nightmare
Twilight Sparkle had awoken, covered in her own sweat panting as if she ran clear across Equestria. She couldn’t remember what got her to be like this but from the look on Spike’s face it must’ve been excruciating. “Wha-what happened?” Questioned Twilight, looking around a bedroom she wouldn’t recognize it if not be her own. “You kept screaming ‘get away from me, get away from me’. I did everything I could to try and wake you up but you kept screaming ‘It’s not my time I can fix this’.” Explained Spike, seeming almost as confused as Twilight. A sharp pain had resonated on the back of Twilight’s head nearly stopping her from getting up. She started to analyze her mess of a room to figure out what might have happened, and then turning towards the doorway she saw something that caught her eye. What’s that by the stairs Spike?” she asked trying to be as calm as possible, Spike only shrugged and had a questioning look on his face himself.
Twilight started to walk up to it, he head feeling lighter gradually losing weight as she came closer to the strange object on her floor. Finally as he reached it she felt her vision start to leave her and her last conscious action she remembered was spike calling Twilight’s name getting louder as she faded from reality. What seemed like a millisecond later she woke up again, her peripheral vision seeming to be lost she looked around in a dark hallway that seemed unfamiliar to her, though her mind screamed not to she walked forward down the dark hall the floorboards creaked under her hooves as she took every step quivering at the paranoia and adrenalin flowing through her veins. She seemed to be nearing the end of the hallway when she heard a familiar laugh. It could only mean one thing and she knew what was about to happen next.
She felt a gush of cold air impact her from the side that nearly took her breath away, the laugh became more subtle and distinct now and a figure had started to emerge from the shadows. “Hello again Twilight Sparkle, how is your ‘friendship’ studies going along?” the shadow crept forward revealing itself, “I trust that you’re learning everything you need to know about beginning your step towards unlocking the ‘true meaning’?” The shadow had fully emerged from the darkness and was standing now, in a beam of light directly in front of Twilight, revealing a full grown Stallion with a silk black coat of fur and red hot flames for the mane; the tail seemed to only be what Twilight could depict as a skeletal structure. “Death, why are you here?” Twilight’s mind was screaming at her that she already knew the answer. “Quite simply to enjoy myself you see, controlling everypony’s demise is hard work and even I deserve a day off from it once in a while.” Twilight could almost completely sense the sarcasm arising in Death’s voice.
“Then why come to me? Why are you talking to me?” Twilight’s mind was racing with over a thousand questions but those seemed to be the ones she wanted to know most. Death’s reply was far from adequate for the purple Unicorn. The half rotten figure in front of Twilight started to grin in amusement “You don’t mean to tell me you forgot our little deal do you?” Twilight’s memory raced back, as if controlling itself causing a thought she had lost so long ago.
She was a filly, next in line for her Magic School Acceptance Test. She remembered this day all too well, she remembered everything about it as if she was reliving every second of the day again, exactly as the first time she lived through it. “Next in line, Twilight Sparkle please stand in front of the judges and preform the designated assignment. “ She let out a heavy sigh and could feel her heart skip a beat. She walked in front of the three judges who from the very second Twilight stood in from of them were writing on their score sheets.
Sweat started to bead on her forehead as the loudspeaker announced “Twilight Sparkle, your assignment is to hatch this Dragon egg using magic.” Okay, Twilight said to herself after clearing her throat, all I have to do is break an egg, and then you’re in the clear. She tried to swallow again, but was stopped by a reflexive gag, after a small coughing spell she recovered.
She then adjusted her stance to a more steady one, leaned her head forward and with all the strength she wasn’t using to make sure she passed out, forced herself to try and crack the egg. She imagined the egg breaking open; she repeated this thought as she attempted to do the exact same outside of her mind. She tried for a solid eighteen seconds, then the thought started to blur, she could feel herself weaken and finally, she passed out.
She could hear noises, at first they just sounded like nonsensical ramblings, it felt like an eternity to her but the random and meaningless noises started to take shape. She could hear her parent’s arguing; over what she thought was her. Twilight finally gained enough strength to re-open her eyes only to see her mother and father screaming at one another. Trying to stop the embarrassing argument, she yelled “STOP ARGUING, PLEASE!” before breaking into tears.
The two full grown ponies then directed their anger towards Twilight and let anything insulting that came through their mind be set out. “How could you have failed a simple test?! We bought you thousands of stupid fucking books for you to study for the damned thing and you couldn’t even break open a shitty egg?! I thought we raised you better than this!” Her mother started, Twilight was now balling like a new born filly. Her father then added “What makes you think you can just spend all our money on your stupid little fantasy? Why is it that you and your stupid pussy for a brother hate us so much?!”
Twilight’s sadness suddenly turns into full blown rage and her teas seem to have sucked themselves back into her eyes. “Don’t you dare bring my brother into this you careless ungrateful waste of life!” Her father took a step back, surprised at what his daughter had just said to her, before Twilight’s mother could say something about the comment, she stared at her and continued; “And you, you rotten, selfish bitch! Don’t you care about anypony other than yourself? Why don’t both of you take your money and go fuck yourselves with it!”
Realizing what she just said, she tried to apologize, but her mother had stricken her square in her nose. She continued to beat on Twilight screaming “I wish you would’ve hung yourself instead of your brother! How dare you say that about me and your father, why couldn’t you’ve been like Shining armor and actually have tried to make a name for yourself?!” Her father stopped her, and for a second looked at her in pity, then without hesitation, spat on her bloodied and almost dead face.
As they started to walk away, Twilight had found enough fight left in her to say one last remark. “I swear if you two ungrateful pieces of shit are still alive by tomorrow, I won’t be!” As she leaned her head down to cry again, she noticed a small rusty knife lying on the counter top next to her. She slowly pulled it off and looked at it, every bone in her body screamed “Do it! Kill them and make your life better!” she turned towards the two ponies that had stopped halfway down the hallway analyzing the damage she had already done to them, she looked back down at the knife and an almost natural grin had been starting on her face.
She ran towards her parents, Screaming and crying with little breath left in her lungs. She started with her mother, stabbing her six times in the heart and three more in her temple, then turning to her father murmured a simple four words: “I’ll make it slow”, then she started to laugh as she cut an inch under her father’s skin starting from his neck and running it extremely slowly down his side to the edge of his cutie mark.
He let out a scream of extreme pain and begged Twilight to stop but she was could only hear herself singing maniacally “Hush now quiet now, it’s time to lay your dying head, Hush now quiet now enjoy your gruesome death.” He started to cry and she leaned town to her father, collapsed on the floor with several stab wounds and cuts gushing out blood all across the side of his body. “Daddy what’s wrong, Can’t sleep?” she asked before laughing again, between sobs he mumbled “I- I’m s-sorry Twilight, we just wanted the b-best for you.”
Twilight’s blade lunged at the bloodied colt for a last time, striking directly between the ribs, piercing both lungs and the heart, she laughed one last time and said to herself “Now daddy, we both know that’s a lie. You only wanted that b- you married to ruin your life more” And then his words started to ring in her head, over and over again. Finally, they broke through to her and she realized how true they were. She sat in the corner of her room covered in her own blood and that of her deceased parent’s now, still holding the knife and looking down at it she sobbed and cried hoping they’ll come through her doorway to comfort her. But she knew they wouldn’t.
She looked at a picture of her brother before he went into the Royal Guard summer camp. There was a message wrote on it, is said: Twilight, I will love you no matter what; see you soon, your brother Shining Armor. She started to cry a bit more but stopped herself so she could speak. “I’ll be with you soon big brother, I love you” she started to lung the knife at herself when a mysterious force stopped her centimeter’s away from her chest.
“Now Twilight, why would you go and kill yourself when you could simply repeat the day and fix your mistakes?” A white, almost transparent unicorn wearing a new tuxedo had entered her room, holding the knife back with his magic. “What do you mean, retry the day?” Twilight asked between sniffs. “I mean to say that I can help you with your little problem. You see, not only am I the most powerful pony in Equestria, I also have the power to change time with signed permission you see.”
He pulled a document out of a pocket on his overcoat and unrolled it, inside was a pen and writing explaining in detail what will happen on signing the document. “All you have to do is sign this contract and I can restart the day, even your whole life to a way that it will be perfect.” Twilight hesitated to pick up the pen as she asked “You can even stop my brother from dying and give me my cutie mark?” The Strange pony grinned and chuckled a little, “Oh, of course I can young Twilight; I can do anything if you sign.” Twilight’s heart raced with joy as she tried to write down her name on the line, “there’s no ink” Twilight stated. The sharply dressed unicorn had laughed a bit again, “Oh yes, I forgot, here pull the brass lever on the top.” Twilight did so and started to write, she felt a sharp pain run through her hoof and as she looked down to figure out why, she realized she was signing the document with her own blood.
“What- how are you doing this?” she asked, as the document shined and placed itself back in the pony’s pocket. “You saved your life and your entire families from being ended so abruptly. Soon your life will go exactly as you want it and you won’t see or hear of me for years to come.” Suddenly, the unicorn faded with an evil laugh mimicking Twilight’s from before.
“Wait that couldn’t have been you. The unicorn was white and had a silk black mane. You, you’re just a mutilated corps” Twilight questioned more confused than ever. “Please” explained Death, “do you honestly think I was going to show my true form to a young filly who I knew would sign her own soul away to fix her continuous mistake?”
The rotting unicorn had a point, and Twilight knew it. “Okay, so what do you want me for now, I won’t be able to do anything you already can’t.” Death’s grin grew and his teeth started to show, “In the time where the ground is cold a famous story will be told, the day the sky dances with light, all the ponies will scream in fright. And you, my dear will be the cause of it all.”
The grotesque stallion’s words rung in twilight’s head as she noticed someone laughing uncontrollably. She recognized the pitch and attempted to look over into a mirror to see who it was only to be met by herself, an uncontrollable grin sitting upon her face she then heard a blood curdling scream and with so, death was gone; and spike with him.
