Trust Me
Where am I?
Load Full StoryViolet Star woke up violently. She jerked up from her bed, it seems like the night before never happened, that's how blurred her memory is. She looks around and notices she is in a dark room, with deep red walls, they might even be rusty, it's hard to tell with the current light level.
"Violet, my precious Violet, it's time to begin." a voice calls out. The voice isn't something she heard, it seemed almost like it originated from inside of her. Trying to wrap her head around it causes pain, she cannot fully grasp this voice's existence.
"What do you want!?" Violet yells loudly. She knew on the inside that she didn't have to speak it loudly, considering that the voice came from nearby, or so that's what she could piece together.
"I just want to help you, to help us." the voice replied. It seemed somehow nonexistant, yet ever present. It's as if the voice was assaulting her very mind, it just reached into her mind and implanted itself there, in a manner-of-speaking.
"What do you mean?" Violet says. She is utterly annoyed that she cannot understand this voice's whereabouts. It's very existence ebs at the very foundation of everything she knew. Was she crazy? She could not be sure.
"I just want to help, don't question me. It's safe to trust me. We need to get you out of here, they're planning to dispose of you, you know." the voice claims.
Violet just stares blankly at the wall. She starts to realize she is some kind of cell. The walls are infact a deep red. There is a torn khaki colored carpet on the floor. On the wall to your right, there is a crooked picture. In the corners, you can clearly see cobwebs, but no spiders for some reason. But looking at the picture, she realizes it's her. She's in some kind of green field with something standing behind her, but it's crossed out in what appears to be some kind of black writing instrument.
Violet continues to look at this picture. Trying to think about it gives her a headache. Confusion rushes to fill every orifice as she attempts to ponder the picture's significance. She then notices that there are some ponies in the background behind her as well. They bear resemblance to her in many ways.
"Remember when you were happy? You can feel that again, the warm rays of the sun, the laughter of other ponies, if you just listen to me. I can get you out of here. You can see your family again." the voice says, in an authoritive voice. It sounds sure of itself. No, not sounds. Violet doesn't hear this voice, she feels it.
"I'd love to, what do I have to do?" Violet says. She is warming up to this voice, it almost has a warm embrace. A comforting familiarity about it.
"Just wait, I'll contact you when I need you to do something." the voice replies. It's almost like it responds the second she finished asking what she has to do.
Violet feels like she can trust this voice, it sounds a lot like it knows what it's doing, no, it feels that way. She just lies back in the bed. She continues to think about why the room is in such disarray. She almost drifts off to sleep, until she hears a knock on the door.
"I'm coming in, don't be alarmed, it's me, Doctor Complex." a male voice comments from the other side of the metal door.
Suddenly the door opens, revealing a unicorn stallion with a light gray coat and an alternating red and crimson mane. He brought some kind of chair with him. He closes the door h behind him and takes a seat. He regains his posture, and takes out a clipboard with some parchment on it. He looks at Violet with eyes telling her that she is about to be spoken to directly.
"Hello, Violet, how do you feel this morning?" He says in a friendly voice.
"I'm feeling.....confused....I can't remember anything from before today." Violet says in a voice that tells her that she is definItely looking to this doctor for answers.
"Don't trust him." the voice from inside her head beckons.
"Did you hear that?" Violet hastely says.
"Hear what?" Doctor Complex says. He looks intrigued. He uses his magic to levitate a quill to his parchment, like he is taking notes.
"Nothing, anyways, can you explain why I don't remember anything?" Violet asks.
"I'm afraid I can, but you might not want to hear it." Doctor Complex says.
"He is going to lie to you, don't listen to him, he's not like us, he doesn't know things." this voice reasons.
"Also, call me Draco." the voice adds.
"I want to hear it, no matter what." Violet says. With a look on her face showing she is definately determined to find out what the answer is.
"Well, it will also explain to you why you're here. I was telling the nurses you'd ask. And how could I lie to you? You are here because have commited some...well...very serious crimes. You were sent here after Celestia herself determined you were not mentally well enough to be sent to a prison where normal ponies would go." He explains exhaustively.
"How serious?" Violet asks, suddenly with a sad demeanor.
"I said don't listen to him, this doctor simply wants to keep us both here, forever." Draco tells Violet.
"Well, I'm afraid you've killed somepony. I'm sorry." Doctor Complex says, he has a slightly upset look about him. To be honest, he looks genuinly sorry for Violet's predicament. But his lack of details is a bit worrying. Was he trying to avoid saying something?
"Well, I hope I've answered your questions, now I have a few questions for you." The doctor says, never for a moment losing his facade of professionalism.
"Ask me anything." Violet replies. The voice says not to trust this doctor, but he seems just like your average pony to you.
"Have you had anything...strange...happen since you woke up?" Complex asks Violet. He puts his quill to the parchment again, presumably to take more notes.
"Don't tell him about me, he just wants to drag us down. He is the enemy. Don't trust the staff here." Draco tells Violet. Draco hasn't appeared to lie so why not trust him?
"No, I've felt fine." Violet lies. She tries to keep a neutral expression, and hide her true experiences.
"I see." The doctor says, he looks like he is suspicious.
"What else do you want to ask me?" Violet asks, trying very hard to change the subject before things get out of hand.
"Do you have any immediate family?" Complex questions.
"My mother, Twilight Sparkle." Violet says.
"Hmm, I see...and does she know you're here?" The doctor continues.
"I am unsure." she replies.
"That was more to test your memory, the answer is yes, she does. We notified her when you first arrived." he says. He pens something down that Violet cannot see from the angle she is at.
"I have another question for you, Doctor Complex." Violet says in a way that implies she is going to ask him whether he tells her to or not.
"I'm listening." he replies.
"Why is the room all rusty, old, why are there cobwebs?" she asks.
"Intriguing for you to say that. The simple answer is that the room is not rusty, there are no cobwebs. This vision is probably a side effect of your medication. Do not worry, I'll report this and me and the rest of the staff will make the necessary adjustments. I'm done with you for now." He answers.
"Is there anything else you need before I go? After I leave I'd recommend sleep, it might quell the side effects of your medication." he tells Violet. He seems legitimately concerned.
"No, thank you." She replies to him.
Complex walks out of the room, closing the metal door behind him and clicking it locked. What could he mean? What kind of crimes did she commit? She cannot remember anything about it. She just assumes she should question him further next time he comes to the cell. As she thinks that, the feeling returns to her.
"If he is coming back, that is. You don't know anything about this. He is lying, it's not true. He wants you to be subdued. You must listen to me very carefully. Soon a guard will come by, and open the cell door to check on you, that is your opportunity to escape." Draco bellows.
"But I, how will I do it?" She asks, puzzled as to what kind of opportunity that would provide. However, no answers come to her, Draco is apparantly lying in wait for the event itself to occur. Suddenly, as if he planned it himself, a guard walks by. He stops at the door.
"Are you okay in there?" The guard asks.
"Don't answer him. Hide under the bed." Draco says to Violet.
In response to his words, Violet crawls underneath the bed, silently and swiftly. She does not make a move nor a sound once she is fully concealed. She hears loud knocking on the door.
"I said, are you okay?" The guard asks once more.
Still no answer for him. So suddenly she hears the door open. She sees hooves trotting into the room. They are clad in metal armor. They have a slightly pointy shape.
"Hello? Is anyone in here?" The guard asks, Violet almost finds it surprising that he would ask again.
"Now is your chance, dart for the door, don't stop for anything." The voice inside of Violet echoes. It almost reverberates off of her mind.
With no hesitation, Violet slides out, and bolts for the door. She can feel her surroundings flying by.
"Hey, STOP!!" The guard screams. Now that she can see him more clearly she notes that he is a unicorn. She doesn't stop for him, however. She keeps running down the hall. She runs past many cells, and sees a ton of doctors in the hall. When they notice she is a patient, they panic. One uses his magic to push some kind of alarm. It churns out a monotonous beeping, the kind you'd expect more from an airstrike alarm than an urban one.
Violet keeps running through the hall, she is about to come up to a turn.
"Take a right." Draco states calmly. She turns right, to the left she can see guards hot in pursuit. All of them unicorns. Vilet thinks for a second. Why aren't they using magic to stop her? Nevermind, it's no time to be thinking about that. She just keeps running until she reaches a large corridor. At the end is a doorway. It looks like it leads into some kind of courtyard.
"Stop, she's trying to use the worker exit!" A guard shouts.
Suddenly she notices the door is starting to close. She doesn't let up her trot. She keeps heading for the door, as it slowly closes. Her eyes squint, and she is running as fast as her hooves will take her. She can do nothing more than continue and see where this will lead. The door closes completely, right as she was up to it. She bangs her head hard on the cold metal. She slides to the floor.
"Dammit, now what!?" she thinks to herself. She is now just lying on the floor, she hesitates to do this at first, but she suddenly turns around. She is most concerned about what the penalty for trying to escape is.
Guards surround her. They all look perplexed at her sudden outburst. A few look slightly angry, and in some of their faces she can see traces of sympathy.
"What was that about?" One of them asks.
"Don't tell him. Trust me." Draco says. Sometimes it's like Violet can almost forget he is there, but in truth, he is always there, waiting to tell her something.
"I was startled when a guard entered my room." She lies. She only can hope they'll believe her.
"Jumpy huh? I knew those doctors don't know anything about their patients." A seperate voice says. She can't see him until he forces his way through the other guards. He is a stallion, a pegasus, actually.
"I can handle it from here" he says. He extends a hoof and helps Violet up.
"I'm Silver Claymore, and you are?" he asks, with a smile on his face, for whatever inconceivable reason.
"I'm Violet Star." She responds, a little nervous. His questioning is a tad bit strange in her opinion.
"Listen, I can understand why you'd want to leave, this is a sad place for such a bright young mare to wind up." he says a little mockingly.
For some strange reason, Violet feels happy. His company is pleasing her. She returns a slightly shy smile at him. She tries to think of fitting words to describe her dilemma.
"It's just, everything has been happening so fast. I can't remember what happened." Violet manages to speak.
"I understand, listen, this place is not good. I'm one of Princess Celestia's most trusted guard captains. Of course next to the captain of the royal guard. But still, I'll put in a word for your release. After all, you seem sane to me." he says. Evidently trying to cheer her up. He puts a hoof on her shoulder gently.
"Thank you." she mouths, moving in to hug him. He just wraps his hooves around her as well. They get lost in the moment.
Suddenly they both snap back to reality as Doctor Complex walks by.
"I heard from the guards about what happened, what possessed you to do that?" He asks, clearly expecting some kind of insignificant answer as he does not look amused.
"I...I...." Violet tries to muster the ability to say something else, but she simply can't, Seeing this, Silver steps up.
"Her escape was my doing sir, I will not let it happen again. She had no choice in the matter." He says, standing with his head above the doctor. Violet just notices that he has a tall stature, he stands reasonably taller than Complex.
"Is that so? Well, I'd recommend being more careful. You could put my job at risk, and if that is the case, I'll make sure my job is not the only one that will be lost." He says in a serious tone.
"Now just escort her back to her cell." he says, he is clearly impatient with this whole even.
Silver takes Violet by the hoof and starts to lead her back down the hallway. She is silent on the way towards there. She starts to think. That could have gone better is the only words that manage to slip into her mind as she continues the trek down the hall. They arrive at the metal door labelled "11 C".
"Well here it is, like I said, I'll put in a good word for you with the Princess, I'm sure you'll be out of here in no time." Silver says reassuringly, He opens the thick metal door.
"Thanks..." is all Violet musters under her breath while walking into the cell, and heading towards the bed. She just plops down on it, and closes her eyes. FInally the sand man pays her a visit, and she dozes off.
